Abstract

The handicraft industry in Bojonegoro, East Java, holds significant potential through products such as Jonegoroan batik, batik painting, knitted products, and teakwood crafts. However, members of the Asosiasi Handicraft Jatim (AHJ) Bojonegoro still face critical challenges in digital marketing and financial management. Limited use of Google Business Profile and the absence of systematic bookkeeping have restricted market reach and weakened sustainability. To address this issue, a community service program was conducted with the aim of empowering local artisans through knowledge transfer and practical mentoring. The method was implemented in five stages: planning, implementation, evaluation, feedback, and sustainability. The implementation included two main sessions, namely digital marketing and financial literacy training, complemented by mentoring and practice. 30 MSMEs owners participate in the program, and pre- and post-tests revealed significant improvement in knowledge. Evaluation results showed positive responses, with participants expressing strong interest in the continuation of similar programs. This mentoring program contributed to enhancing partners’ capacity to expand market reach, improve business financial management practices, and strengthen the economic competitiveness of handicraft MSMEs in Bojonegoro in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

The Mentaraman Art and Cultural Educational Tourism Village faces challenges related to limited managerial capacity, low literacy in community-based tourism management, and suboptimal governance sustainability. This community service program aimed to strengthen the managerial capacity of tourism managers, particularly in planning, institutional organization, resource management, and tourism service standardization. An experiential learning–based capacity-building approach was applied through socialization, thematic training, field-based practice, technology application, evaluation, and continuous mentoring. The results indicate a significant improvement in managerial capacity across key indicators, including planning, coordination, institutional management, tourism guiding literacy, and digital technology utilization. Quantitative evaluation shows that over 80 percent of participants achieved good to very good competency levels and expressed positive perceptions of the effectiveness of field-based learning. The program also contributed to improving the quality and diversity of art and cultural tourism products, optimizing digital promotion, and strengthening community participation. Sustainability was supported through the formulation of a five-year tourism village development roadmap, initiation of village-level regulatory support, reinforcement of collaborative networks, and ongoing partnerships with higher education institutions. These findings demonstrate that experiential learning–based managerial capacity strengthening grounded in local potential is effective in promoting sustainable and professional management of art and cultural tourism villages.

Abstract

Literacy is a crucial factor in improving the quality of human life. The Serengan Village Library in Surakarta City has significant potential as an inclusive and sustainable community-based literacy center. This community service program aims to implement the national Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation program, with its mission to improve the Community Literacy Development Index. The community service program is implemented through design, outreach, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The program includes technology-based library management to improve the competency of librarians (18 participants), School Literacy Movement (GLS) training (20 participants), and digital marketing and product photography training for MSMEs (20 participants). Monitoring and evaluation are conducted using indicators, which include design, action, and indicators. The results of the activities indicate an increase in the capacity of all target groups (librarians, teachers, and communities involved) for the program (220 percent on average from the baseline). These include more professional librarians, more creative teachers in conveying literacy to children, and more digitally prepared MSMEs. This program can be a model to establish the TPBIS program in the other village libraries. Moreover, this program contributes to strengthening the function of village libraries as community literacy centers and supports the achievement of SDG 4 on quality education.

Abstract

Jatijejer Village has significant potential for developing essential oils from various aromatic plants. To increase the selling value of essential oil products and improve marketing effectiveness, training is needed in the diversification of essential oil derivative products and digital marketing training. This community service program aims to increase the economic independence of the Jatijejer Village community through training and mentoring in the diversification of essential oil-based products and digital marketing. The activity was implemented through participatory training, hands-on practice, and intensive mentoring in the production of derivative products, such as balms and hand sanitizers, as well as digital marketing training, including introducing marketplaces, social media, and digital promotions. Program evaluation indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills, with average pre-test scores of 56 percent increased to 97 percent in post-test assessments. There was an improvement in economic independence, demonstrated by the increasing variety of products, namely balms and hand sanitizers, and the start of product marketing through digital platforms. This program will be continued with the opening of the Jatijejer Essential Oil House and souvenir center, which will become an integrated tourist destination for the dissemination of knowledge and increasing sales of essential oil products.
