Abstract

The aims of this study were to find language impairment of autism in Life, Animated film. The autistic child in this film is the second son of Suskind Family This study the writer uses descriptive analysis techniques. The data of this study are the conversation of Life, Animated film. Data analysis techniques used in this study is transcription, classification and analysis. Data source was Life, Animated Film. This study only focused on language impairment. The result of this study shows that Owen language impairments are Owen was confused or needed a help if he have to answer but he was forgotten. His articulation sometimes can be fast or slow, especially when Owen talked with Emily, he articulated slower than usual. He  often use word “great” because his vocabularies are low, he confused to understand other people, he was echolalia, his articulation is delay and he like something scripted, but he did not confuse in using pronoun and grammatical. Keywords: Language impairment, autism, life, animated film

Abstract

English speaking skills are very important to communicate in the world. Most of the people communicate with other people by using speaking skills. The difficult skill to master in learning English for Thai students is speaking skills, especially those who are learning English in Indonesia speaking skill seems to be the most difficult one to learn. Whereas, it is the most important skill that leads to effective communication between people. Speaking skill is considered as the most important means of communication. Although students still have problems with their English speaking skills. Thai students who study at the English department academic still get problems in speaking skills and it needs overcoming with their English problems. The main objective of this study is to know the problems of Thai students in mastering English speaking skills in the Islamic university of Lamongan (Indonesia).  Keywords: Thai Student, English speaking skill

Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to know the improvement of students’ writing skill in descriptive paragraph through flashcard media. This research was conducted at SMP “Empat Lima” Karanggeneng. This research is a classroom action research which consisted of two cycles. This study was carried out on February until May 2020. The subjects were the seventh grade students of SMP “Empat Lima” Karanggeneng, Lamongan. The data were collected by holding the test, interviewing, observing and distributing the questionnaire. The instruments that have been used are writing paragraph rubric, interview guideline, observational note and questionnaire sheet. The data that were used in this research are qualitative dan quantitative. This study used democratic validity, outcome validity, catalytical validity, process validity and dialogic validity as the validation. Then, the reliability of this study were time and investigator triangulation. There were several steps in this research implememntation, they are identifying the problems, planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The results showed that the use flashcard media in writing has been able to improve students’ writing skill. According to the qualitative data, the students were enjoy and enthusiastic with the implementation of flahcard media in writing lesson. The They also felt easier to make a descriptive paragraph through this media. According to the quantitative data, the students’ main score was improved in the each cycle. Keywords: : Flashcard, writing skill

Abstract

Plot is one of the important elements contained in narrative literary works. Plots in literary works, films, stories, or other narratives are sequences of several events, and each of these events influences subsequent events. Now, the film is considered as a powerful communication medium for the masses that are being targeted, because of its audio-visual nature, that is, vivid images and sounds. With pictures and sound, movies can tell a lot in a short time. This study  focuses on the analysis of how the plot is used in the film The Theory of Everything. Thus, the aim is to describe the plot in the film The Theory of Everything.This research used a descriptive qualitative method. First, the writer categorizes several fragments of a sentence, dialogue, and scene. Next, look for, analysis, and interpret it to obtain the plot structure in accordance with the theory. From the results of the analysis obtained the answer that the film is told in its entirety starting from exposition, rising action, climax, and falling action. And the film closes with a closed ending. So the film goes forward or progressive plot. The authors hope that the results of this study will benefit future researchers who are interested in the work of literature in the form of films, especially in the plot. Keywords: Film, plot

Abstract

Language is foremost a means of communication used by people to convey their ideas and feelings to others when they talk directly or indirectly. Current phenomenon is common in society the code switching used by individuals who live in a bilingual or multilingual community in which the code switching can occur. The researcher chooses one of Malinau students in Lamongan. Her name is "Siti Bakhiatus Sholikhah" Faculty of Fisheries, Lamongan Islamic University, on eighth semester.The purpose of this study is to find out the types of code switching and find out the functions of code switching used by Malinau Student in Lamongan. This study examines the types of code switching that occurred during the conversations used by Malinau Students in Lamongan. The research design of this study is using qualitative descriptive method. The collection technique of the data is from of recording and chatting in social media : like a WhatsApp and Facebook from “Lika’s” talks. The data analysis techniques used found that are preparing, reading and undesrtanding, coding and classifying, interpreting and drawing te conclusion. From this data found the types and functions of code switching are analyzed by using the theory of Poplack’s and Apple and Muysken. From the results of analysis, three types of code switching (tag switching, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching) and four functions of code switching are (referential function of code switching, directive function of code switching, expressive function of code switching and metalinguistic function of code switching).

Abstract

In passive voice, the subject receives the action of the verb. It is often used both in spoken and written form. For the learners, to change the active into passive voice of the target language is very confusing. The students usually make errors in building passive sentences as they ignore some aspects required in arranging best form of passive sentence. The students of El-Madani Islamic Boarding School Deket Lamongan were confused to change the verb in different tenses. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative. The research was chosen because this type of research defines what exist and may help to reveal new point and meaning. The survey and experiment, which were used in this research, was the phenomena of English errors passive sentences made by the students.  The population of this research is all the students of El-Madani Modern Islamic Boarding School.The researcher used test and questionnaire to collect the data. The result of this study shows that (1) the kinds of errors commonly made by the students in changing active voice to passive voice are errors of omission, errors of addition, errors of miss-formation, and errors of miss-ordering (2) The students have difficulties in understanding passive voice especially in four tenses, simple present tense, simple past tense, present continuous tense and past continuous tense. (3) Factors which affect students’ ability in passive voice are: classroom atmosphere, lack of experience in using English, teacher’s explanation was not clear enough, the differences between passive voice in Bahasa and English. Keywords: Students’ errors, passive voice

Abstract

Students sometimes face some difficulties to make a writing. They have difficulties to change the sentence into a good paragraph and how to combine it as a good text structure. This research used a spatial order technique in writing a descriptive text. Spatial Order is a technique of writing based on the space in the order. The purpose of the research is to know the effectiveness of the spatial order technique in writing a descriptive text, and how is the student's response towards it. The research is conducted in MA Sains Roudlotul Qur'an. The research used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample is X MIPA 2 class with using purposive sampling technique to choose the sample. The data from the test is analyzed using t-test checking to find the significance of the data. On the other hand, the data from the questionnaire is analyzed with finding the percentage of the data. The result of the research shows that the number of t-tests which is to find the effectiveness of the technique is 6,65. It is higher than t-table score at significance 0,1 that is (t-test=6,65 > t-table =1,69). By means, Ha that it is Effective to use spatial order in writing a descriptive text is accepted. On the other hand, the respond of the students showed that 78% of the students give positive feedback in using this technique. By means, the students give a positive response to this technique.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to know the types of metaphors found in Bring Me The Horizon’s “Amo” album selected song’s lyrics and what is the intended meaning of the song’s lyrics. There are two research questions. They are: 1) what types of metaphors are found in Bring Me the Horizon’s selected song lyrics? 2) What is the intended meaning of the song’s lyrics? The reason behind this research was conduct is to get more knowledge about figurative language especially metaphor and how it works in the literary world. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the lyrics. The result of this research shows six types of metaphors by Newmark. Those are dead, cliché, stock, recent, original metaphor and simile. Two out of their three songs of Bring Me the Horizon, that is Medicine and In the Dark use dead metaphor and simile the most. It is then concluded that the intended meanings of their three songs is to tell other people who ever felt belittled, have social issues or being looked down to keep going and not affected by those hurtful words. In other words, Bring Me the Horizon uses the function of figurative language especially metaphor to express their message and applied them into their works.  Keywords: Metaphor, meaning

Abstract

The female characters struggle in The American Heiress is very interesting to be analyzed because the story tells about the sacrifice love which containing of contestation desired multicultural identities. This study is aimed to analyze the struggles of female characters to get symbolic capital which focus on Cora Cash and Charlotte symbolic struggle to be the new Duchess. To support this study, the practice of theory by Pierre Bourdieu is used as a concept of the symbolic struggle which involved to the contestation each character. This study applies qualitative research study. The result of this study is Cora Cash and Charlotte are done the struggle, they have different amount of the capital which Cora is more accomplish all of the capitals than Charlotte. It can be seen by the movement of Cora’s position is different before and after she goes to England. Her first coming to England she is the new comer, she tries to show her strategy until she gets the symbolic capital as the wife of the Duke.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the impact of the application of socrative to the reading ability of students in industrial 4.0 era, where anything was done using the internet and computers. The method used in this study was the pre-experimental type One Group Pretest-Posttest. This method used a class that was used as the object of research. This research was conducted at SMK 1 Baureno located on Jl. Raya Kepohbaru Department No. 258, Baureno, Plumbungan, Bojonegoro. The object of this research was the 10th grade computer and network engineering students at SMK 1 Baureno. The number of students was 34 consisting of 17 male students and 17 female students. This research was conducted on February 5 through March 11, academic year 2019/2020. There were three activities carried out, namely pretest, treatment and posttest. The hypothesis accepted in this study was the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Because the results of this study indicated that the t-test of 34 students was 17,07 with a significant level of t-table 0,05. This mean that there were differences in the ability of students before and after treatment was given. And from the results of questionnaires that had been done that 10th grade students of computer and network technique at SMK 1 Baureno prefered to read online (using socrative) rather than reading offline. Keywords: Reading, socrative
