Abstract

The interest in learning the Qur'an has started to rise amidst the current era of moral degradation among children and adolescents. Effective Qur'an learning must be adapted to existing conditions. To address the dual global challenges of increasing interest in Qur'an learning and English language education, an integrated method is required. This paper aims to provide an understanding of the importance of Qur'an and English language education using the Al-Muyassar Qur'an learning method. This research employs a literature review method. The results of the study indicate that teaching the Qur'an to young children using the Muyassar method is highly accurate and effective, allowing children to fluently and rhythmically recite the Qur'an from an early age. With the Muyassar method, a teacher is required to extend the time for Qur'an revision (muraja'ah) to strengthen the child's memory retention. While this integrated learning method offers various advantages, it also comes with certain drawbacks. Therefore, further research on this integrated method is necessary.

Abstract

The tradition of Kundangan or Kenduri is one of the Indonesian Muslim practices that some groups consider Bid'ah (innovation) because it is not directly based on the Hadith of the Prophet. Research on Kenduri is generally divided into two categories: studies that assess the legality of Kenduri based on Islamic values and studies that examine the values embedded within the practice. However, research on the community's reception and the essence of Kundangan in the context of Living Hadith remains limited. This study focuses on the examination of Living Hadith related to Kundangan during the last ten days of Ramadan as practiced by the community of Dasin Village, Tambakboyo Subdistrict, Tuban Regency, using Karl Mannheim's sociology of knowledge approach. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach to understand this phenomenon holistically. The findings indicate that the objective meaning of the Kundangan tradition during the last ten days of Ramadan is a heritage from ancestors that involves rituals, such as reading the Qur'an, praying, and giving food parcels to guests. The expressive meanings of the Kundangan tradition vary, including views of it as ancestral heritage, the belief that ancestral spirits are present in the home and should be sent the rewards of charity, anticipation of the Night of Qadr, and efforts to maintain social relationships. The documentary meaning of the Kundangan tradition reflects an acculturation between Javanese cultural beliefs and the values of Hadith. These findings show that the Kundangan tradition is a method used by Kiai (Islamic scholars) to implement Hadith values, blending them with the local culture.

Abstract

Quranic tafsir plays a crucial role in facilitating the understanding of the Quran. Initially, interpretations were conducted in Arabic, but as Islam spread worldwide, these interpretations were translated into various languages. With technological advancements, many tafsirs are now available online, such as on websites and mobile applications. This research examines the source references, strengths, and weaknesses of the tafsir translations in the "Al-Quran Terjemahan Tafsir", one of the available Quranic tafsir applications in Indonesia. This study employs a literature review with a descriptive-analytical method by collecting, processing, and analyzing online data from the application. The results of the study indicate that, first, the translation of Tafsir Ibn Kathir in the "Al-Quran Terjemahan Tafsir" application refers to the translated book of Tafsir Ibn Kathir published by PT. Sinar Baru Algensindo, available in ebook format from kampungsunnah.org. Secondly, the strength of this application lies in the completeness of its source references, which are not abridged. However, it lacks a clear citation of source references and has flaws in its layout and writing, which may cause confusion for readers in understanding the content presented.

Abstract

Mandoa Asyura is a tradition practiced by the community, passed down from generation to generation on the 10th of Muharram. This tradition is considered obligatory as a form of respect for the month of Muharram, especially on the day of Ashura. The community also believes that this tradition is directly based on the Prophet's hadith, which commands fasting. However, the implementation of this tradition is not limited to the Sunnah fast; the community also carries out various traditional rituals. This research is a study of Living Hadith using qualitative methods and a phenomenological approach. The findings indicate that Mandoa Asyura originated from the teachings of Syaikh Burhanuddin, a scholar who spread Islam in West Sumatra, and is practiced as a form of respect for the month of Muharram, which is rich in historical significance, religious values, and social aspects. The community also believes that this tradition holds spiritual wisdom for Muslims, such as the Apam cake, which is interpreted as the umbrella of Siti Fatimah and a protector for those who perform Mandoa Asyura on the Day of Judgment. The two boiled eggs symbolize the acceptance of the repentance of Prophet Adam and Hawa, and the stir-fried fern symbolizes simplicity. Other findings show that the practice of Mandoa Asyura by the community serves as a means of drawing closer to Allah SWT, reflecting on the events of Ashura, and as a form of self-introspection in leading a righteous life.

Abstract

The Hadith of al-Thaqalayn is one of the most significant hadiths in Islamic literature, particularly within Sunni and Shia traditions. This hadith states that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) left behind two important things: the Qur'an and the Ahlul Bayt. This study examines various versions of the Hadith of al-Thaqalayn to determine its authenticity, interpretation, and implications for leadership in Islam. By comparing primary sources such as Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim and Uṣūl al-Kāfī, along with secondary literature, this research employs content analysis to identify textual variations, address doubts, and assess scholarly criticism of the Hadith of al-Thaqalayn. The findings reveal that despite differences in interpretation, both Sunni and Shia traditions emphasize the importance of adhering to the Qur'an and the Sunnah as the primary guides. The study also highlights the complexity of assessing the reliability of hadiths, demonstrating that even though some chains of transmission may be considered weak, the core message of adhering to the Qur'an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad remains vital. Additionally, the analysis discusses theological debates regarding the role of the Ahlul Bayt and provides a more comprehensive understanding of the Hadith of al-Thaqalayn within the context of Islamic scholarly tradition.

Abstract

Marriage in Islam aims to create a harmonious family rooted in the principles of sakinah (tranquility), mawaddah (love), and rahmah (compassion). However, a limited understanding of spousal rights and obligations—especially in Simpang Kiri Subdistrict, Subulussalam City, Aceh—often leads to conflicts that can culminate in divorce. This study analyzes the local community’s perceptions and practices regarding marital rights and obligations as outlined in Surah Al-Nisa’, verse 34, while also evaluating the impact of local customs on household dynamics. Employing a qualitative field research approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and observations with community members, religious leaders, and officials from the local Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). The findings indicate that the community’s understanding of spousal rights and obligations primarily focuses on tangible aspects such as financial support and mahr (dowry), often overlooking the essential Islamic values of justice and compassion. Additionally, local customs significantly shape marital practices, frequently resulting in inconsistencies with Islamic principles. This study recommends enhancing religious education and fostering collaboration between religious institutions and community leaders to deepen the understanding of marital roles in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

The principle of ta'awun (mutual assistance) is a fundamental Islamic value that promotes solidarity and shared responsibility. Its practical application in contemporary, culturally diverse societies often encounters significant challenges. This study investigates how the residents of Ie Meulee Village, Sukajaya Subdistrict, Sabang City, practiced ta'awun in responding to Rohingya refugees stranded in the area during December 2023. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study collected data through observations, interviews with 14 informants—including village officials, religious leaders, community members, and refugees—and document analysis. The findings reveal varied interpretations and implementations of ta'awun, shaped by factors such as religious education, the social environment, and economic constraints. While residents with strong religious knowledge exhibited proactive assistance, others provided help spontaneously or hesitated due to existing prejudices. This study underscores the importance of inclusive religious education, community-based social programs, and local policies to foster cross-cultural solidarity, ensuring the sustainable application of ta'awun values in multiethnic societies.

Abstract

Qur’anic interpretation has often been overlooked as a crucial element in the development of Islamic law, despite its undeniable connection to the juridical aspects of fiqh and qanun. This article examines the role of Qur’anic interpretation in deriving Islamic legal rulings, the prerequisites for producing valid fiqh-based interpretations, and its primary sources. This qualitative research employs documentation as its data collection technique, supported by a linguistic approach. The findings reveal three main points. First, interpretation (tafsir) serves as an idhah (explainer), bayan (clarifier), and kasyf (explorer) of legal verses. Second, valid interpretations require linguistic foundations, intertextual correlations (munasabat), historical contexts such as asbab al-nuzul, relevance to contemporary issues (fiqh al-waqi’), and a balanced understanding of illat (causal reasoning) and hikmah (wisdom). Furthermore, interpretation must adhere to appropriate frameworks and methodologies. Third, the sources of Qur’anic interpretation, in order of priority, include tafsir bi al-Qur'an, al-sunnah, the companions (sahabah), and the People of the Book, collectively termed tafsir bi al-ma’tsur. Meanwhile, interpretive efforts based on reasoning (tafsir al-ra’y), when aligned with scientific principles, are also considered valid.
