Abstract

Diabetes is a group of metabolic disorders with high blood glucose levels. In type 1 diabetes, blood glucose increases due to damage to pancreatic beta cells. In type 2 diabetes, insulin production is ineffective in glucose uptake into target tissues, increasing glucose levels. Advances in RNA-based technologies indicate that RNA molecules have multiple roles in disease initiation and progression. This review discusses recent developments in RNA therapy for type 1 and type 2 diabetes. RNA therapies, such as mRNA, miRNA, siRNA, lncRNA, and circRNA, show great potential. mRNA and miRNA are important in pancreatic cell development, insulin resistance, insulin sensitivity, and insulin secretion. siRNA improves glucose regulation and improves beta cell dysfunction in T1D and T2D. lncRNAs regulate beta cell responses to inflammation and insulin resistance. circRNA plays a role in M1 macrophage activation associated with T1D pathogenesis and regulation of insulin transcription and secretion. RNA therapy offers revolutionary possibilities in the management and potential cure of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is believed to improve and change the clinical approach to diabetes, with research continuing to develop therapies that are safe, effective, and able to change the paradigm of diabetes treatment.

Abstract

Malaria continues to be a substantial health concern, characterised by elevated rates of illness and death. The development of resistance to existing treatments poses unique obstacles to infection control initiatives. To combat the increasing incidence of malaria, it is imperative to create malaria vaccines such as RTS,S/AS01 and R21/Matrix-M. This study conducted a systematic literature revieew to evaluate the safety and efficacy of malaria vaccines that are currently being developed, with a specific focus on the R21/Matrix-M vaccine. Applying the PRISMA criteria, we identified five studies that specifically examined the efficacy and safety of the R21/Matrix-M vaccination. The findings indicated that the R21/Matrix-M vaccine exhibits favourable tolerability and demonstrates substantial efficacy in clinical studies. Nevertheless, the scarcity of research on the R21/Matrix-M vaccine thus far emphasises the necessity for additional investigation to substantiate its efficacy in malaria treatment.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) cause around 74% of deaths in the world, two of which are caused by hypertension and diabetes, which are chronic diseases. In general, it is characterized by high morbidity, polypharmacy and long-term treatment. This causes poor treatment compliance in the majority of respondents and has an impact on increasing disease complications, morbidity, mortality and treatment costs. Pharmacist intervention in managing NCDs has developed through a systematic, comprehensive medication management model approach such as the Medication Therapy Management (MTM) approach. This MTM model is designed to improve clinical outcomes from therapy, increase appropriate drug use, resolve treatment-related problems, improve respondents' quality of life and can provide good efficiency in avoiding risk factors for disease complications. This review was prepared to serve as comprehensive reference material regarding PTM. The method used is collecting scientific articles from national and international sources. The results obtained show that the MTM approach is an excellent pharmacist practice model in providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services for NCDs, especially hypertension and diabetes. The interventions that pharmacists can provide are comprehensive counseling by evaluating clinical results, compliance, knowledge, quality of life, perception of illness.

Abstract

An important period in a child's growth and development is the period under five years (toddlers), because this period is a period of basic growth that will affect and determine the child's subsequent development. During toddlerhood, children experience rapid growth and development and are often referred to as the golden period as well as the critical period. Health workers have a role in promoting knowledge about the health of toddlers to parents. The toddler mother class is a form of activity that provides knowledge to mothers about the health of their toddlers. This study analyzes the influence of android applications for mothers under five on maternal behavior in providing complementary foods for breast milk to toddlers 1-2 years old at the Palembang City Independent Practice Midwifery. The research method uses a Quasi experiment research design using a one-group pretest and posttest design approach. Based on the results of the statistical test using the McNemar statistical test, a ρ value of 0.000 (α<0.005) was obtained, a meaningful difference was obtained between the behavior of mothers before and after using the Mother of Toddler Class application through the android application. This research is expected to be useful for mothers of toddlers and can be used as input material for midwives as an alternative method of implementing classes for mothers under five years old.
