Abstract

Modern civilization with its industrialization has brought many changes to Christian family life, where modernization also means a shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society. This development brings about changes that have a direct impact on family life, both in the patterns and roles of the Christian family, as well as in attitudes and views of the values that are the foundation of family life. The article aims to discover the meaning of the mutuality of the Christian family based on Colossians 3: 18-21. In achieving these objectives, this study uses descriptive qualitative methods. The conclusion is that the formation of a family on earth began when Allah created and blessed husband, wife, and child as a complete and perfect family in God's sight with love, obedience, respect, and responsibility.

This article aims to briefly explore the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and its praxis into the community of God's people. Abstract

The church needs to challenge itself about its identity, constitution, and mission, because out of necessity this involves the world and the events that unfold in it. Thus, sociological, political, and economic issues have ecclesiological components and consequences that are practically tautological, including the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement. The question thus moves from whether the Church is called to critical reflection on OWS to how that critical reflection should occur. The purpose of this article is to point out the specific practice of the OWS movement – the “sign” – to be considered through an ecclesiological lens. The method used is from an ecclesiological lens with a new monastic. The results of this research are firstly, the church must actively and responsibly inculcate non-violent practices, communitarian economy, and embody space and place, while at the same time joining forces with non-ecclesiastical organizations that support these practices. similar. Second, by whom - and by whom - the Church (as a very different polis) must always point beyond itself to what is its foundation and fulfillment. As long as the Church faithfully responds to this call, the Kingdom will be in our midst.

Abstract

One of the most important elements of postmodernity is the growing awareness of the diversity and potential incommensurability of the various forms of cultural life that sustain groups and individuals and addresses the postmodernist denial that postmodernism is inherently apathetic or hostile to social or political action. Postmodernism is a reaction to the epistemological ideals of modernity. Postmodernism is based on a limited human point of view, and thus becomes a prisoner of its own subjectivity, resulting in two main characteristics, namely pluralism and relativism. This study analyzes the postmodern view that is implemented in Christian education in Indonesia. The method used in this article is a literature study by using philosophical biblical glasses to analyze postmodern views. The result is that postmodern moral education (such as transcendentalism and idealism) has some useful and some negative aspects that should be considered for planning moral education and curriculum development for Christian education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Some church leaders say that Christians should hate and stay away from this world. This world will be destroyed. This has an impact on the indifference of Christians to the future of this world, including the future of the Indonesian state. Some Christians have the opinion that the most important thing is the new world (heaven). The text of John 3:16 gives us deep meaning in how we view the world (Indonesia). The research method used in this article is biblical ecegesis with a syntactic and semantic grammatical analysis approach. The result of this research is that God loves this world. By loving this world, every Christian is also called and involved to love, which is to care for this world, including the Indonesian nation.

Abstract

This article purpose finds what is “the Wesleyan synthesis,” and will also briefly revisit the much-discussed Wesleyan Quadrilateral. Wesley effectively combined in thought and practice these five elements, namely: (1) Divine sovereignty and human freedom, (2) Doctrine and experience, (3) Experience and structure, (4) Charismatic and institutional elements, and (5) Present and future salvation. This article argues that this synthesis is powerful, but also that it is biblical. In fact, the reason this synthesis is powerful is that it faithfully embodies the revealed truth of Scripture. The results of the Wesleyan synthesis are drawing three general conclusions. First, Wesley's theology was broader and more profound than has often been realized. Second, Wesley's theology can help us develop a biblical understanding of culture and culture change. Third, Wesley's theology is thus an open invitation to continue to develop a theology of church, mission, and culture that is profoundly biblical and sharply relevant to the present age.

Abstract

This is true for John Wesley too. Wesley’s understanding of humanity has not only affected his theological development, especially his Soteriology; it in turn impacted his practice of theology, in particular, his pastoral guidance to the thousands of “Methodists” in the British Isles almost throughout the entire eighteenth century. The latter is particularly true in the light of his concerned with practical Christianity, with the interplay of theology and the realities of daily life

Abstract

The tabernacle is a Biblical institution as a place of God's presence among His people that was not suddenly created, just as the existence of God's people itself has historical traces and did not suddenly form. This paper provides a chronological view of God's presence until His presence is accommodated by an institution as the place where God dwells called the Tabernacle. The chronology will be discussed from the point of view of Biblical history by presenting facts that state explicitly or implicitly regarding the presence of God, and which are also related to the promise in the "Tabernacle’s Tripartite" formula from Genesis to the book of Revelation, which apparently coincides with "evolution". the place of God's presence, from the Tabernacle which is "non-permanent" to the Temple which is more impressed "permanent", then it is in the "tent" of the body of Jesus, as well as believers so that the place of God's presence becomes spiritual. Then the implications for believers as a "Tabernacle or Temple" where God's presence in the Holy Spirit.

Abstract

Intercaste marriage is also one of the crucial problems face by an ethnic group called Toraja, an ethnic group which belongs to the province of South Sulawesi in Indonesia. Although according to the Declaration of Human Rights Article 16.1/2 that marriage is an independent decision, but it should wait when comes to the lives of the Toraja. Although it is also specifically explained according to the 1974 Marriage Law in Indonesia that the validity of marriage can only be legally recognized when performed according to the religion of both couples, so that religion can be considered as the main issue for the Indonesian when comes to the issue of marriage, but it is clear that it is not the case for the Toraja. The main issue lies on caste, as the Toraja also consists of four castes which derived from the indigenous belief, Aluk Todolo, which is believed as something transcendental-ontological, therefore inviolable even through marriages. However, as Christianity has become the most dominant religion embraced by the Toraja, therefore it is worthy to ask the roles of Christian teachings in their lives. the question posed: “What is a liberative theological approach to the intercaste marriage in Toraja?” The voices from the margins, of the intercaste couples, have revealed how they have been struggling with the discriminatory acts they have received even from their fellow Church members (pastors, elders in society and lay people of the church). They have started to ask the roles of Christ’s love which has set His people free from all kind of jail in this world, and that Christ Himself has demonstrated that all people are equal before Him. This article aims to show the lived experiences of the intercaste couples in Toraja, and how their voices could become the starting point for the Toraja Church to construct a liberative contextual theology of intercaste marriage, assisted by the approaches of feminist liberation theology (which always focuses on the lived experiences) and postcolonial criticism which has helped to identify the Toraja subaltern. Furthermore, the results are also helpful to contribute some concrete recommendations for the Toraja Church to be taken against their intercaste couples and commit to stand to advocate them, and especially to do some pastoral care to recover their condition both mentally and spiritually.
