Abstract

Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have a high risk of atherothrombotic events. Hyperglycemia and other metabolic disorders in T2DM are associated with abnormalities of hemostasis system and thrombosis that contribute to cardiovascular disease. Routine laboratory tests to examine the hemostasis system are Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) and Prothrombin Time (PT). This study aimed to describe the abnormalities of APTT and PT in patients with T2DM in RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangkaraya. Twenty subjects with T2DM in RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangkaraya were obtained using purposive sampling techniques and blood samples were examined with a COATX Biosystem coagulation using photocolorimetric method. This study found that was 70% APTT are shortened, 5% APTT are prolonged and 25% APTT were normal. While the PT results were 25% PT are shortened and 75% APTT were normal. Abnormalities of APTT and PT in T2DM patients in RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus Palangkaraya showed an abnormality of the coagulation system so as to allow a tendency for bleeding and cardiovascular disease in T2DM patients. Routine coagulation test should be continued to help better diabetes mellitus management in order to prevent micro or macrovascular complications.

Abstract

Insulin and glucogone secretion, and insulin resistance are processes that depend on calcium homeostasis. This study aims to determine patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus has been increase in serum calcium levels. The subjects of this study are 34 famale patients aged ≥40 years old with type-2 diabetes mellitus were selected by purposive sampling technique. This study was conducted in June 2018. Measurement of serum calcium levels was at the University Muhammadiayah Palangkaraya using Arsenazo method with BTS 350 instruments. The results showed 79% of type-2 diabetes mellitus patients had serum calcium levels >normal (>10 mg/dL) and 21% normal calcium levels. The correlation is very weak between serum calcium levels on age, duration and GDP. Serum calcium levels are seen to increase in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus with complications of heart disease. In this study we found the increasing serum calcium levels in type-2 diabetes mellitus patients and could be used in the treatment of diabetic patients.

Koro Benguk (Mucuna pruriens L) is a plant that can be used as an alternative treatment because it contains antioxidants that can maintain health without causing toxic effects. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is an effect of giving koro benguk coffee (Mucuna pruriens L) on blood sugar levels of Streptozotocin-induced Diabetes Mellitus Rats. This study is an experimental study of Sprague Dawley mice. A total of 35 male wistar rats were divided into 5 groups each: normal control (K1); diabetes control (K2); diabetic rats were given a large coffee extract 0.63 mg / g BW rat (P1); diabetic rats were given a large infusion of coffee koro 1.26 mg / g BW rats (P2). Diabetic rats were given an infusion of coffee koro benguk20,52 mg / g BW rats. Fasting blood glucose (GDP) levels were analyzed weekly for 3 weeks using the GOD-PAP method. The results of the study showed a decrease in blood sugar for 4 times the observation time in almost all treatment groups except the positive control group. The conclusions in this study were the provision of related coffee (Mucuna pruriens L) can reduce fasting blood glucose levels in Sprague Dawley rats with diabetes models significantly compared to controls.
