Abstract

This study discusses the tradition of melawat in Simeulue, particularly in Desa Padang Unoi, as a social practice that strengthens silaturahmi, ukhuwah, and collective identity. The research focuses on the process of implementation, its relevance in reinforcing ukhuwah, and the challenges arising from the tradition. The method used is qualitative descriptive research with participant observation and semi-structured interviews, supported by secondary data from literature. The findings show that melawat is carried out with clear organization, involving village and customary leaders, and remains relevant in strengthening Islamic brotherhood and social solidarity. The challenges include changes in youth interaction patterns, limited resources, and the demand to uphold Islamic norms. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of melawat as cultural heritage and a social instrument, with suggestions for greater youth involvement, stronger roles of religious and traditional leaders, and adequate resource support to ensure sustainability. Keywords: tradition melawat; community brotherhood; descriptive study; Padang Unoi village

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of self-acceptance among parents of children with special needs (ABK) in Kuala Makmur Village, East Simeulue District. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was obtained through observation, interviews with five parents, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that initially, parents experienced emotional reactions such as sadness, shock, disappointment, and guilt when learning about their child’s condition. Over time, they began to accept their child’s condition through family support, especially from their spouse, religious values, knowledge about ABK, and support from the social environment. The process of self-acceptance resulted in changes in parenting patterns to be more patient, attentive, not comparing children, and more focused on developing children’s independence. Despite challenges such as social stigma and limited information, parents remained optimistic about their children’s future. The conclusion of this study confirms that self-acceptance is influenced by internal and external factors that are interrelated in shaping positive parenting patterns. Keywords: Self-Acceptance, Parents, Children with Special Needs

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding the distinctive characteristics of Islam in Southeast Asia, which developed in a peaceful and adaptive manner, as well as the limited attention given to the role of education in the Islamization process. The study aims to analyze the history of the arrival of Islam, the development of Islamic thought, the formation of Islamic civilization, and the influence of colonialism and modernization in the region. This research employs a qualitative approach through a literature review of various scholarly sources. The findings reveal that Islamization occurred through trade, marriage, and Sufism, and was systematically strengthened by educational institutions. Islamic thought in Southeast Asia developed in a moderate and contextual manner, while Islamic civilization emerged through the integration of Islamic values with local cultures. Colonialism and modernization posed significant challenges but also stimulated intellectual renewal and reform. In conclusion, Islam in Southeast Asia has evolved into an inclusive and dynamic civilization, with education serving as a key factor in sustaining its continuity and relevance in the modern era. Keywords: Islam in South-East Asia, Islamic Thought, Islamic Civilisation, Islamisation, Islamic Education

Abstract

This study aims to understand the experiences of sixth-semester Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students at UIN Sumatera Utara who work part-time in managing their study time through a phenomenological approach. The focus of the study includes the dynamics of daily routines, time management strategies, psychological stress, the impact on personal development, and the role of social and institutional support. The study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research subjects consisted of 10 sixth-semester PAI students who actively work part-time. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that students who work part-time experience time fragmentation due to busy academic and work activities. To overcome this, students develop various strategies such as preparing daily schedules, determining priorities, and utilizing free time effectively. In addition, students also experience psychological stress in the form of fatigue and stress, but are able to overcome these through coping mechanisms, especially religious approaches. This study also found that work experience has a positive impact on students' personal development, such as increased independence, responsibility, communication skills, and social skills. The support of family and friends is a crucial factor in helping students maintain a balance between study and work.
