Bamboo is a versatile plant that offers a diversity of ecosystem services for the environment, so its existence needs to be preserved. The existence of bamboo in rural areas, especially in Wogo Village, is closely related to the culture and traditions of the local community, which can be used to regulate the lifestyle of the community towards the existence and preservation of bamboo forests. Community perception will help see the perspective, response and sensing of a group of people in an area towards events or phenomena that occur in their environment. This research examines community perceptions of the Waja Betho Tradition, as one of the community's local knowledge in relation to the preservation of bamboo forests. To explore information about the data, a descriptive qualitative method is used and the search for accurate information data in the field through observation, interview and documentation techniques to be able to study more deeply. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that some village communities already have the perception that the waja betho tradition which is an ancestral heritage plays an important role in the preservation of bamboo forests. The community's perception of the waja betho tradition in preserving bamboo forests is influenced by individual interests, interaction with the environment and economic motives. The waja betho tradition also contains environmental conservation values in this case to preserve bamboo, where there is a prohibition on harvesting bamboo for a specified period of time to keep the bamboo able to grow lush and quality, before it can finally be used again.

Abstract

This study explores using social media as an innovative tool for teaching English in resource-limited secondary schools. In the face of technological disparities and limited educational resources, particularly in underfunded or remote areas, integrating platforms such as WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok presents an engaging and accessible approach to enhance English language instruction. Using a mixed-methods design, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations involving English teachers and students in Samarinda, Indonesia. Findings show that social media increases student motivation, participation, and comprehension through authentic content and multimodal interaction. Teachers observed that learners responded positively to creative, structured activities delivered via social platforms. However, significant challenges were identified, including unequal access to the internet and devices, digital distractions, and insufficient teacher training in educational technology. Despite these barriers, both teachers and students acknowledged the potential of social media to enrich the language learning process when supported by effective instructional strategies. The study recommends teacher training on digital pedagogy, infrastructure improvement, and the development of clear guidelines for integrating social media into formal education. Ultimately, the research contributes valuable insights into how familiar digital tools can support English language learning in contexts where traditional resources are scarce

Abstract

This research explores the correlation between students' motivation and engagement in learning activities using ChatGPT, an AI-based interactive tool. It focuses on how ChatGPT influences students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, as well as their behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 385 students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated Likert-scale questionnaire based on Self-Determination Theory and Fredricks’ engagement framework. The results indicated that students demonstrated moderately high levels of motivation (M = 29.65) and high levels of engagement (M = 32.52) when learning with ChatGPT. Spearman’s rho analysis revealed a moderate and statistically significant correlation (ρ = .559, p < .01) between motivation and engagement. These findings suggest that higher levels of motivation are associated with increased engagement in AI-supported learning activities. The study concludes that ChatGPT can effectively enhance both motivation and engagement, offering practical insights for educators and curriculum designers in developing more interactive, personalized, and student-centered learning experiences. Integrating ChatGPT into educational contexts supports the advancement of digital pedagogy and promotes more meaningful learning in 21st-century classrooms.

Abstract

Instilling religious character values is an important part in shaping the personality of students with noble and responsible character. Pancasila and Citizenship Education Teachers (PPKn) have a strategic role in instilling these values through the learning process and example. This study aims to describe the role of PPKn teachers in instilling religious character values in students at SMA Negeri 5 Ternate City and identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that PPKn teachers at SMA Negeri 5 Ternate City play a role as facilitators, motivators, and role models in fostering students' religious character, such as faith values, tolerance between religious communities, honesty, and discipline. These values are instilled through integration in subject matter, religious habituation activities in schools, and through a personal approach to students. However, there are several obstacles faced, such as the lack of parental participation, the influence of the environment outside the school, and limited time in the learning process. This study recommends the need for collaboration between schools, teachers, and parents in supporting the strengthening of students' religious character in an ongoing manner.

Abstract

This research investigates the perceptions of students and English teachers at SMK Negeri 15 Samarinda regarding the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and its role in fostering deep learning in vocational education. Using a quantitative descriptive method, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 90 eleventh-grade Automotive Engineering students and five English teachers. The student questionnaire assessed Experience, Involvement, and Understanding, while the teacher questionnaire examined the Perceived Benefits and Challenges of PBL. The instruments were found to be valid and reliable, with Cronbach’s Alpha values ranging from 0.76 to 0.77. Findings revealed that students generally perceived PBL positively, with mean scores indicating frequent engagement in practical tasks, moderate to high participation, and improved comprehension. Teachers also expressed strong support for PBL, particularly for its ability to enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and independent learning. Although some challenges such as time constraints and resource limitations were noted, they were not viewed as critical barriers. Correlation analysis showed significant relationships among all three student variables at the 0.01 level. Notably, Involvement and Understanding were strong predictors of Experience, as shown by a regression model with a correlation coefficient (R) of .762. Overall, the findings affirm PBL’s effectiveness in promoting deep learning and 21st-century competencies in vocational contexts. While challenges exist, both student and teacher perspectives support PBL as an adaptable and impactful instructional approach. These insights contribute to the growing body of research supporting PBL's application in Indonesian vocational high schools.

Abstract

This study investigates community decisions and perceptions regarding the comfort of living in slum settlements, specifically in Kelurahan Dalam Bugis. Amid ongoing urban development and housing challenges, understanding why residents choose to remain in environments often categorized as uninhabitable is critical. The research aims to explore the factors influencing these decisions and the subjective experiences shaping residents' sense of comfort. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving residents and local stakeholders. The findings indicate that despite infrastructural inadequacies, issues of sanitation, and high population density, many residents perceive their neighborhood as comfortable due to strong social cohesion, proximity to livelihood sources, and emotional attachment to the area. Economic limitations also play a pivotal role in shaping housing decisions. The study concludes that perceptions of comfort are not solely determined by physical conditions but are deeply intertwined with socio-economic realities and cultural values. These insights are essential for informing inclusive urban planning strategies that respect the lived experiences of marginalized urban populations.

Abstract

Education plays a central role in the development of students' character and knowledge. One of the subjects that significantly influences the shaping of national character is Pancasila Education. In the implementation of Pancasila education in elementary schools, engaging learning media is essential. The use of instructional media in the teaching and learning process contributes positively to the overall psychological development of children. Diorama media is a three dimensional miniature learning media designed to demonstrate and depict real forms visualized in the classroom. Diorama media can help explain learning processes that were previously abstract into more concrete forms. The design of this research is a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample for this reseach is also the 20 third-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Kedunggalar. Based on the research results and discussion, the paired sample t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. There is a significant difference between the students’ pretest and posttest scores. The pretest had an average (mean) score of 60.50, while the posttest average (mean) score was 86.50. The increase in the average scores between the two tests indicates an improvement in student performance. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of diorama media positively affects the learning outcomes of Pancasila Education for first-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Kedunggalar.
