Abstract

The study arises from the contextual reality of churches facing tensions between their missional calling, limited resources, and the demand for sustainable diaconal ministry. However, diaconal studies in Indonesia still lack an integrative theological framework that connects normative reflection with contextual strategic planning. This research employs a qualitative conceptual approach within the framework of practical theology, using critical analysis of literature on diaconal theology, missio Dei, and strategic church planning. The findings indicate that determining the focus of diaconal ministry should not be understood merely as a managerial consideration, but as a theological decision in interpreting God’s calling amid concrete limitations. Through a contextual analysis of Callahan’s principle of focused ministry, this study argues that strategic planning gains theological significance when situated within the framework of the missio Dei. Accordingly, strategic diaconal theology is proposed as a practical theological framework that guides churches in shaping diaconal ministry that is contextual, focused, and sustainable.

Abstract

Studies on customary law within the context of Christianity often fall into two opposing tendencies: the total rejection of local culture or its uncritical acceptance without theological evaluation. Within this debate, the Nias customary law Fondrako has rarely been examined as a cultural epistemology with constructive potential for church formation. This study aims to explore the cultural epistemology embedded in Fondrako and to critically reinterpret it within the framework of contextual theology in order to identify its relevance for the formation of church members. This research employs a qualitative approach through library research using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings reveal that Fondrako functions not only as the highest customary legal system in Nias but also as a source of epistemological values shaping social order, ethical norms, and communal life. From the perspective of contextual theology, the encounter with Christianity has transformed the application of Fondrako, shifting it from punitive and curse-based sanctions toward values grounded in biblical principles of love, justice, and reconciliation. This study argues that the epistemological values embedded in Fondrako, including discipline, social solidarity, deliberation, reconciliation, and restorative justice—can be critically and theologically integrated as a contextual model for church formation. It, therefore, positions contextual theology as an approach that neither rejects local culture nor accepts it uncritically, but rather interprets and transforms it in the light of the Gospel to foster mature faith, character, and communal life within the church.

Abstract

The development of digital culture has rapidly shaped the characteristics of the digital generation (Generation Z and Alpha). Consequently, it calls for a theological model that is more adaptive, dialogical, and contextual in responding to the dynamics of the digital age. This study aims to formulate technotheology as a post-systematic theological framework that bridges Christian faith with the realities of digital culture through a 3D model (Discern, Design, Deploy). This research employs a qualitative method with a conceptual-reflective approach based on literature studies in digital theology, contextual theology, and critiques of modern systematic theology. The findings indicate that technotheology functions as a reflective framework that does not replace systematic theology but rather extends it through a more communicative and participatory post-systematic approach. The proposed 3D model enables the ethical and biblical discernment of digital values (Discern), the creative and contextual formation of faith (Design), and the implementation of faith witness in digital spaces (Deploy). The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of technotheology as a conceptual framework within post-systematic theology through the 3D model.

Abstract

Existentially, disability pastoral care is a creative space for disabilities. Disability pastoral care is not just a physical space but also a theological reflection and a pastoral practice that can help individuals with disabilities and church institutions (society) find meaning in life and in relationships with others. Literature research becomes a tool to unpack these problems. Based on the cultural belief that pastoral practice has local cultural roots and is grounded in religious traditions, as documented in religious texts. From library studies and theoretical dialectics, the research findings are as follows: first, Biblical texts become the root of the belief in pastoral practice in the church and society; second, the pastoral circle becomes a practical step for the church and pastoral practice practitioners to find, design, and implement disability services; third, that pastoral practice is always connected to religious communities and society as a model of ministry.

Abstract

This article examines Paul’s missional spirituality in 1 Corinthians 9:19–23 as a theological foundation for Evangelical contextualization in Indonesia. The study aims to explore how Paul’s spirituality can provide a framework for contextual Christian witness within Indonesia’s pluralistic and culturally diverse society. Using a qualitative-theological approach through historical-grammatical and rhetorical analysis, this study argues that Paul’s statement of “becoming all things to all people” reflects a cruciform spirituality shaped by self-emptying and participation in the gospel rather than merely a missionary strategy. The findings show that Paul’s spirituality integrates fidelity to the gospel, contextual sensitivity, and missional engagement without compromising theological identity. This study concludes that authentic contextualization requires incarnational spiritual formation rather than superficial cultural adaptation. The article contributes theological implications for spiritual formation, theological education, discipleship, liturgical contextualization, and the church’s public engagement in Indonesia.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of academic dishonesty in online learning and Gen-AI usage highlights the importance of examining the role of Christian spirituality, self-efficacy, and information literacy skills in strengthening academic integrity among distance education students. This study aimed to analyse the direct and moderating effects of Christian spirituality on students’ academic integrity using a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) involving 130 students from a Christian university in Indonesia. The outer model evaluation demonstrated that all constructs satisfied reliability and validity requirements (Composite Reliability >0.70; AVE >0.50). The inner model analysis revealed that Christian spirituality (β=0.274; t=3.687; p<0.001), self-efficacy (β=0.274; t=2.424; p=0.016), and information literacy (β=0.244; t=2.770; p=0.006) had significant positive effects on academic integrity, with the model explaining 41.1% of the variance (R²=0.411), indicating moderate explanatory power. However, Christian spirituality did not significantly moderate the relationships between self-efficacy or information literacy and academic integrity (p>0.05). The effect size analysis indicated that all direct effects were categorized as small (f²<0.15). Furthermore, the post-hoc power analysis showed that the sample size was adequate for detecting moderate to large effects but remained limited in detecting very small interaction effects. The study concludes that Christian spirituality functions as a foundational value directly supporting academic integrity; therefore, strengthening academic integrity among distance education students requires the simultaneous integration of faith-based education, self-efficacy development, and information literacy instruction.

Abstract

This study addresses the gap between the teaching of love in Matthew 22:37–40 and the social practices of Christian communities that still reflect fragmentation between spiritual and social dimensions. In the context of the Atoen Pah Meto community, the philosophy of Nekaf Mese ma Ansaof Mese, which emphasizes unity of heart and action, has not been sufficiently examined as an integrative theological framework. In addition, studies of contextual theology in Indonesia remain limited in developing local culture as a hermeneutical medium that connects the divine and cultural mandates. This research aims to analyze this philosophy as a paradigm of contextual theology using a qualitative approach through literature study and contextual theological analysis based on the model of Stephen B. Bevans. The findings show that this philosophy represents the integration of vertical and horizontal love. The novelty lies in positioning local culture as a locus theologicus and an operational hermeneutical framework, contributing to global discourse on contextual theology.

Abstract

The main problem addressed is the imbalance between faith, technology, and ecological responsibility in contemporary Christian education, which remains largely anthropocentric and technophobic. The purpose of this research is to formulate a theological foundation and learning model that views creation both nature and technology as a space of revelation and participation in God’s redemptive work. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a theological-philosophical approach through an extensive literature review of the Bible and theological works by Moltmann, Berry, McGrath, and Groome. The findings reveal that integrating eco-theology and AI can expand the dimensions of spirituality toward ecological awareness and digital wisdom, deepening the relationship between humanity, God, and creation. In conclusion, Creation-Based Learning Theology asserts that faith learning is not confined to the classroom but encompasses the entirety of creation and the digital ecosystem as arenas for forming character, ethics, and faithful responsibility within a sustainable global context.

Abstract

This research examines the childfree phenomenon through the lens of the dialectic between the procreation mandate (Genesis 1:28) and New Testament eschatology. The aim is to redefine the concept of fertility to provide pastoral space for individuals who choose not to have offspring. Utilizing a qualitative-theological method with a biblical study approach, this research analyzes the transformation of the meaning of blessing and progeny within New Testament texts. The results indicate that in Christ, fertility has shifted from biological continuity to spiritual fertility through discipleship. Analysis of Ephesians 1, Matthew 19:12, and 1 Corinthians 7 confirms that spiritual blessings and the status as "children of God" are no longer determined by blood relations but by spiritual adoption and obedience to God. The study concludes that the childfree choice has a legitimate theological foundation as a response to the "eschatological emergency" for the effectiveness of the Kingdom of God's service. This deconstruction of the nuclear family encourages the faith community to be more inclusive by prioritizing theological obedience over genealogical ties.
