Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan sejauh mana manajemen strategis kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan prestasi olimpiade siswa di SMA Unggulan CT Foundation Deli Serdang. Jenis penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Jumlah subjek penelitian sebanyak 66 orang, masing-masing 19 guru pembimbing olimpiade dan 47 siswa olimpiade dengan 9 bidang keilmuan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) perencanaan program-program unggulan untuk meningkatkan prestasi olimpiade sains siswa sebagian besar dilakukan oleh kepala divisi dan seluruh guru pembimbing olimpiade yang dibentuk dalam rapat penyusunan rencana strategis, (2) program-program yang sudah dilakukan oleh pihak-pihak terkait untuk meningkatkan prestasi olimpiade sains siswa sudah sangat baik, yaitu mulai melaksanakan proses seleksi siswa olimpiade, menyusun jadwal dan mengkoordinir pelaksanaan klub minat bakat olimpiade, memantau perkembangan akademik siswa olimpiade, hingga membuat evaluasi mengenai pelaksanaan olimpiade dan memberikan laporan berkala setiap minggu kepada wakil kepala sekolah, (3) pelaksanaan program sekolah membutuhkan peran serta warga sekolah dan pihak terkait, baik internal maupun eksternal, dan (4) prestasi belajar siswa berupa perolehan medali dan penghargaan lainnya sebagai hasil bahan evaluasi dan pemberian nutrisi dan rekreasi sebagai bentuk apresiasi dari sekolah.

Abstract

This research was primarily conducted to find out the total amount of grammatical errors and to analyze kinds of morphological and syntactical errors made by the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program of Catholic University of Saint Thomas in the Academic Year of 2018/2019 in their English compositions. There are 22 students as the research subject of the study. The writers collected the data by asking the students to write down an English composition entitled My Unforgettable Experience. The grammatical errors made by the students were analyzed based on linguistic category taxonomy (morphological and syntactical errors) proposed by Dulay et al (1982). Based on the data analysis, it was found that there are 400 grammatical errors altogether (277 morphological errors and 123 syntactical errors) made by the research subject in their English compositions. In morphological errors, the students dominantly made errors in past tense, namely 247 errors (89.2%). Next, the students made 14 errors in definite article (5.0%), 10 errors in third singular verb (3.6%), 2 errors in comparative adjective/adverb (0.7%), 2 errors in regular/irregular verbs (0.7%), 1 error in possessive case (0.4%), and 1 error in past participle (0.4%). In syntactical errors, the students dominantly made errors in transformation, namely 42 errors (34.15%). Next, the students made 30 errors in verb construction (24.39%), 25 errors in word order (20.33%), 24 errors in verb phrase (19.51%), and 2 errors in noun phrase (1.62%). It is advisable that the students had better master English grammar very well and need to equip themselves with at least a number of fundamental abilities such as how to use punctuations and construct simple sentences in the English language correctly, and the English teachers/lecturers had better explain English grammar and teach how to construct simple sentences in the English language correctly. Abstract

The purpose of this study is (1) Is there an influence on the development of Adobe-Flash multimedia programs on the ability of students to improve vocabulary skills in English For Tourism courses ?. (2) What percentage of the influence of the development of multimedia programs on the ability of students to improve vocabulary skills in English For Tourism courses? This research is an experimental research. Abstract

Toba in terms of kinds, functions and positions. The data were taken from the Holy Bible written on Matthew’s book Chapter 1-28 with English and Bahasa Batak Toba Version. The question words found there were contrasted to see the similarities and differences. The research findings showed that English has nine types of question words, they are: Who, This study is about the similarities and differences of question words in English and Bahasa Batak Whom, What, Where, When, Why, How, Which, and Whose. While in Bahasa Batak Toba, there are eleven types of question words, they are Aha, Ise, Boha, Dia, Andigan, Nandigan, Piga, Sadia, Boasa, Mahua, and Marhua. In terms of functions, Both English and BahasaBatak Toba’s question words are used to ask for person, place, time, thing, reason, manner, activity, and possession. The position of English question words occurred at the beginning or in the middle of an interrogative sentence, while Bahasa Batak Toba’s question words take place at the beginning,in the middle, and at the end of interrogative sentences.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is an effect of Guidance Christian religious education teacher on interest in learning of grade ten public senior high school Lumban Julu 2014/2015 ”. The research method used is quantitative research aims to study the effect of two variables, while the analysis used is to test the correlation hypothesis, namely the Product Moment and the tools used in data collection are to run a closed questionnaire. To determine whether there is the effect of Guidance Christian religious education teacher (X) on interest in learning (Y) of grade ten public senior high school Lumban Julu 2014/2015. the results result of this reseach shows that t = 5.593. To find out the correlation coefficient at a significant level of 5% where the t-table is 0.361, the t-test is used with the criteria t-count> t-table, so the hypothesis is accepted. The results of testing the hypothesis obtained that t = 5.593 turned out to be greater than t-table 0.361 (5.593> 0.361), thus the hypothesis is accepted. So it can be argued that, "There is an effect of guidance Christian religious education teacher on interest in learning of grade ten public senior hight school Lumban Julu 2014/2015.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengindentifikasi berbagai kesalahan gramatikal berdasarkan Surface Strategy Taxonomy dan frekuensi kemunculannya serta untuk mengetahui berbagai macam problematika siswa ketika menulis teks dalam bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif-kuantitatif dengan instrument berupa tes tertulis berbentuk esai dan kuesioner. Teks deskriptif berbahasa Inggris yang ditulis oleh siswa kelas VII-A dan VII-B merupakan objek dari penelitian ini. Teks-teks tersebut kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan teori Surface Strategy Taxonomy yang dikemukakan oleh Dulay. Dari hasil analisis teks, peneliti menemukan 4 jenis kesalahan gramatikal yang sesuai dengan teori Dulay. 4 jenis kesalahan tersebut berupa Omission (68.31%), Addition (9.6%), Misformation (8.45%), dan Misordering (2.11%). Berbagai macam problematika yang dihadapi siswa ketika menulis diantaranya adalah lemahnya pemahaman tentang tenses, lemahnya penguasaan vocabulary, pemilihan leksikal yang tidak tepat dalam kalimat, dan penyusunan struktur kalimat yang salah dalam teks. Dalam hal ini, siswa masih menuliskan teks dengan memakai struktur kalimat bahasa asli atau bahasa Indonesia. Kata Kunci: Kesalahan Gramatikal, Deskriptif Teks, Surface Strategy Taxonomy ABSTRACT This study revealed the types of grammatical error based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy theories found on students’ descriptive text and their tendency of occurrence in the texts and to reveal the students’ problems in writing English texts. This study employed the combination of qualitative-quantitative design. Essay test and questionnaire were the main instruments for this study. Students’ descriptive texts were then analyzed based on Dulay’s theory of Surface Strategy Taxonomy. There were 4 grammatical errors found on students’ texts. Those are Omission (68.31%), Addition (9.6%), Misformation (8.45%), and Misordering (2.11%). In writing English text, students face some serious problems related to low grammar mastery, low vocabulary mastery, incorrect lexicon selection, and mother-tongue like sentence pattern. Those weaknesses create so many errors in writing English texts. Due to that, the students need to learn and practice more in writing English text. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui ketepatan bentuk dan isi surat dinas pada Yayasan Perguruan Markus Medan. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data terdiri atas 5 bentuk surat dan dianalisis berdasarkan indikator bentuk, bagian, penggunaan EYD, dan bahasa. Berdasarkan penelitian, Persentase kesalahan pada surat 1 yakni 68%, pada surat 2 yakni 52%, pada surat 3 yakni 52%, pada surat 4 yakni 52% dan pada surat 5 sebanyak 60%. Kesalahan penulisan surat yang dominan yakni pada indikator bagian-bagian surat. Dari kelima surat tersebut, kesalahan yang paling dominan terdapat pada kelengkapan bagian-bagian surat, seperti salam penutup, NIP, inisial, dan tembusan. Kesalahan yang lainnya juga tampak pada penggunaan bahasa yang tidak tegas dan tidak lugas. Dengan demikian, disimpulkan bahwa surat dinas Yayasan Perguruan Markus Medan masih perlu diperbaiki.

Abstract

Kualitas pelayanan merupakan salah satu aspek yang menjadi perhatian khususnya di dunia pendidikan. Disiplin guru dan kepemimpinan kepala sekolah memiliki hubungan yang erat dengan peningkatan kualitas pelayanan. Penelitian ini mengukur pengaruh disiplin guru dan kepemimpinan kepala sekolah di SMP Negeri 2 Pangururan terhadap peningkatan kualitas pelayanan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif, dengan menggunakan kuisioner sebagai instrument penelitian. Dengan menggunakan analisis regresi berganda, diperoleh kesimpulan hasil penelitian bahwa Disiplin Kerja dan Kepemimpinan berpengaruh positip dan signifikan pada Kualitas pelayanan di SMP Negeri 2 Pangururan Kabupaten Samosir baik secara parsial maupun secara simultan.

Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic that struck the world has forced educational institutions to carry out distance learning both online and offline. The main problem in distance learning is the unstable internet network in some areas far from urban areas and the teaching materials are not interactive. As a result, student motivation to learn independently is very lacking which results in low learning achievement. This research is a classroom action research in an effort to improve student learning achievement and learning motivation in the numerical method course, where the teaching material used is an interactive e-book. The results showed that learning achievement increased and completed 100% and student learning motivation was in the very high category. Interactive e-books are very effective in overcoming unstable internet network problems, because they can be accessed without being connected to the internet.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR) is mainly aimed at proving that the application of Guessing strategy is able to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery on English phrasal verbs. This CAR was performed in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of three meetings excluded the pre-test, formative test, and post-test. The subjects of this CAR are the fourth semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Catholic University of Saint Thomas in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. There are 20 students as the research subjects. The quantitative data analysis shows that the mean of the students’ score in the pre-test, formative test, and post-test increases significantly after Guessing strategy was applied in the learning teaching processes of English phrasal verbs. The students’ total score of the pre-test is 1.316 and the pre-test mean is 65,8. The students’ total score of the formative test is 1.384 and the formative test mean is 69,2. The students’ total score of the post-test is 1.600 and the post-test mean is 80. There are 8 (eight) students (40%) who attained score >75 in the pre-test, 8 (eight) students (40%) who attained score >75 in the formative test, and 15 (fifteen) students (75%) who attained score >75 in the post-test. The qualitative data analysis shows that the students are more active and enthusiastic in learning and mastering English phrasal verbs after Guessing strategy was applied. Their responses towards the application of Guessing strategy in the learning teaching processes of English phrasal verbs are very positive. All of them agree that learning English phrasal verbs through the application of Guessing strategy can trigger their curiosity and improve their knowledge and vocabulary mastery on English phrasal verbs. The researchers recommend that English learners implement Guessing strategy to improve their vocabulary mastery on English phrasal verbs.
