Abstract

The low ability of students to write persuasive texts is the background for this research. The lack of use of innovative learning models by educators is one of the causes of this. It is known that incorporating the model into the learning process helps to increase the motivation and interest of students. The purpose of this research is to improve students' ability to write persuasive texts according to the structure and rules of the language. In addition, this study also aims to describe the differences in students' ability to write persuasive texts between the experimental class using the inductive picture word model and the control class using the question and answer learning model and to test the effectiveness of the inductive picture word model in learning to write persuasive texts. The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental method with nonequivalent control group design. Data collection techniques using literature study techniques, trials, observations and tests. The data collected were the results of the pretest and posttest from the experimental class and the control class of class VIII students of SMPN 1 Nagreg. Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ understanding of basic arithmetic operations in mathematics through the application of concrete teaching aids in the form of the Jarimatika Snake and Ladder game for fourth-grade students at SDN Bhaktikarya. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 21 fourth-grade students of SDN Bhaktikarya. Data were collected through observations of students’ understanding and learning evaluation tests. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by calculating the class average score, the percentage of learning mastery, and the percentage of students’ understanding in each cycle. The results showed that the implementation of the Jarimatika Snake and Ladder concrete teaching aid improved students’ understanding of basic arithmetic operations. The average score increased from 54 in the pre-cycle to 70.19 in Cycle I, and further increased to 83.67 in Cycle II. In Cycle II, 86% of students achieved scores ≥80, while 14% of students obtained scores between 75–79, indicating that all students had reached the minimum mastery criterion. In addition, the percentage of students’ understanding based on observation increased from 65.08% in Cycle I to 82.94% in Cycle II. These results indicate that the use of educational game-based learning media such as the Jarimatika Snake and Ladder is effective in improving elementary school students’ understanding of basic arithmetic operations in mathematics. Abstract

Hatch covers are one of the vital components on bulk carriers that serve to protect cargo and support the smooth loading and unloading process. In practice, disturbances in the form of derailed hatch covers still often occur, especially during cargo hold cleaning, which can hinder the loading process and potentially pose occupational safety risks. This study aims to analyze the causes of hatch cover derailment during the cargo hold cleaning process and formulate technical and operational measures to support the smooth loading process on MV Kencana Baruna. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through direct observation on the ship, interviews with relevant crew members, and documentation studies of hatch cover procedures and maintenance records. The results of the analysis show that the main factors causing hatch cover derailment include lack of maintenance of the hatch cover track, suboptimal roller conditions, and lack of supervision and implementation of appropriate work procedures during the cargo hold cleaning process. Preventive measures that can be taken include improving the periodic maintenance program, checking the condition of the hatch cover before and after cleaning, and improving crew discipline in implementing standard operating procedures.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the students’ ability in identifying derivational and inflectional morphemes at the University of Riau’s English Study Program. The subjects of this study are fifth-semester students enrolled in morphology courses during the academic year 2025/2026. This study employs a quantitative descriptive design, utilizing tests composed of multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank items to assess students’ recognition and understanding of morphemes within sentences. The findings show that students’ ability in identifying derivational morphemes is approximately 54%, while their proficiency in inflectional morphemes is higher at around 64%. The results indicate that students perform better in recognizing grammatical inflectional markers than lexical derivational forms, highlighting the need for more focused instruction on derivational morphology. The study contributes to language education by emphasizing the importance of morphological awareness in enhancing vocabulary, reading, and writing skills among EFL learners. These findings can inform educators to improve pedagogical strategies in teaching morphology, supporting the development of students’ linguistic competence in English. This research provides valuable insights for further studies in morphology and vocabulary development in EFL contexts.

Abstract

The low ability of students in writing simple sentences with the SPOK (Subject, Predicate, Object, Complement) pattern was identified as a problem in Indonesian language learning at grade III of SDN 066653 Medan. This study aimed to determine students’ ability after the implementation of the Scramble cooperative learning model and to analyze its effect on students’ ability to write simple sentences with the SPOK pattern. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of class III-A (23 students) as the control class and class III-B (25 students) as the experimental class. The research instruments included pretest and posttest consisting of 13 items, supported by observation and interview results. The findings revealed that the average posttest score of the experimental class (80,56) was higher than that of the control class (73,57). The hypothesis testing showed that the calculated t-value (2,454) was greater than the t-table value (2,013), indicating that was rejected and Ha was accepted. These findings were strengthened by observation results showing increased student participation up to 96% and interview results indicating that students found it easier to understand and write sentence elements in a structured manner. Therefore, the Scramble cooperative learning model was proven to be effective in improving students’ ability to write simple sentences with the SPOK pattern at grade III of SDN 066653 Medan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Fourth-grade students in Indonesia face low learning outcomes, particularly in reading and story comprehension. Students' reluctance to actively participate in class, their lack of assurance of understanding the material, and a lack of variety in teaching strategies are some contributing factors. By applying PBL, SAVI, and CIRC theories, the purpose of this study was to characterize teacher activities and analyze student activities and learning outcomes. This study used the CAR method. The study was conducted in two cycles, with two meetings in each cycle. The participants were fourth-grade students of SDN Gunung Melati 2. Data were collected through tests and observations, and analyzed qualitatively in several stages, such as data reduction, presentation of findings, drawing conclusions, and verification. Furthermore, the development of student learning success was assessed using quantitative analysis, both in written and oral exams. Instructor activity received a score of 18 in the first cycle, which is classified as "good," and increased to 23 in the second cycle, which is classified as "very good," according to research data. Furthermore, student participation increased significantly, from 70% in the first cycle, which is classified as "active," to 100% in the second cycle, which is classified as "very active." Students' cognitive learning outcomes also increased from 70% in the "good" category in the first cycle to 100% or "very good" in the second cycle. The conclusion of this study is that learning using the PBL, SAVI, and CIRC models was successfully implemented to improve learning outcomes, student participation, and teacher performance. Abstract

Diversity in Indonesia is a cultural asset guaranteed by the constitution, yet it frequently faces phenomena of intolerance that threaten national peace. This research aims to describe the legal foundation of tolerance in Indonesia and formulate solutions for maintaining peace through a human rights approach. The research method used is normative legal research with a library research type, employing statute and conceptual approaches. Secondary data consisting of primary and secondary legal materials were analyzed qualitatively using content analysis methods. The results show that tolerance from the perspective of the Indonesian constitution is a fundamental legal obligation enshrined in the 1945 Constitution, particularly Articles 28E, 29, and 28J. Positive peace can be achieved if there is a balance between the exercise of rights and the fulfillment of fundamental obligations, along with equality before the law. However, implementation is still hampered by unharmonized regional regulations and the weak firmness of the state in addressing intolerant practices. As a solution, harmonization of laws and regulations and strengthening the state's role as a neutral mediator in law enforcement are required to realize a tolerant and peaceful social order.
