Abstract

Research of gastrointestinal protozoan in cats at Surabaya are still limited. Protozoa infection of the gastrointestinal tract can cause diarrhea and even zoonosis. This research aimed to identify and determine the prevalence of protozoan in cats in animal hostptal and animal clinic in Surabaya. Ninety  fecal samples were collected from 2 animal clinic and one animal hospital. Samples were  examined e wet mount (native, sedimentation, and floatation) and (Ziehl Nellsen) stain. Protozoa was identified by using a light microscope with 400x and 1000x magnification. The result showed 68,89% of samples were positively infected by gastrointestinal protozoa. The protozoa were Blastocystis sp, Cryptosporidium sp, Giardia sp, and Eimeria sp. By chi square test, there was  not significant differences the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoan in cat between sex, age, breed, and diarrhea status

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the type of gastrointestinal worms egg of Spotted Deer (Axis axis) and Bawean Deer (Axis kuhlii) at Wonorejo Bibit Park and Surabaya Floral Park. The research was conducted in October-December 2017 used total 50 specimen of sample faeces, 40 sample faeces from Surabaya Flora Park and 10 sample faeces from Wonorejo Bibit Park, the samples analyzed at the Department of Parasitology Veterinary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. The results showed that the degree of helmint gastrointestinal in Bawean Deer and Spoted Deer at Wonorejo Bibit Park showed 0% while at the Surabaya Flora Park is 15%. The type of worm found were Trematoda class it was Fasciola sp. The resuls of the analysis used Chi-Square test and showed no significantly differences degree of gastrointestinal helminth infection (p>0.05) .

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the prevalence of major gastrointestinal protozoal infections, the kinds of protozoa that infects and maintenance systems influence on pigeons in Surabaya. Pigeon taken from five regions of Surabaya namely North Surabaya, East Surabaya, West Surabaya, South Surabaya and Surabaya Center. Each region is taken as many as 20 pigeons consisted of 10 pigeons with extensive maintenance system  and 10 pigeons with intensif maintenance system. So that the total overall sample is 100 pigeons. Laboratory examination (microscopic) was conducted in November 2017 until January 2017. Examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract using throat swabs and stool samples were examined with native methods, sedimentation, and flotation. Identification using a microscope using 40x objective scale and 10x oculer scale to determine gastrointestinal protozoal that was found. Data was analyzed using Chi Square Test statistical analysis. Results showed 78% of the positive samples gastrointestinal protozoa infections in pigeons in the city of Surabaya. Results of Chi Square Test statistical analysis showed a p value of 0.030 (p<0.05) which means significantly different. Types of protozoa found that Trichomonas gallinae (49%) and Eimeria sp. (61%). The prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoal pigeons on extensive maintenance sistem  was higher (44%) compared to the intensive caresis system(34%).

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify worm eggs species that infected Egrets in Surabaya. A total of 40 samples were taken and faecal examination was conducted in the Laboratory by means of native, sedimentation, and floating methods, In floating method saturated brown sugar solution was used as floating media because brown sugar solution was faster in floating worm eggs. Then further examination of the worm eggs species were matched by microscopic taxonomy and textbook comparison observation. Eggs of three classes of helmints, Trematode, Cestode, and Nematode were found in faeces of Egrets in Surabaya. Species of the Nematode eggs found were Ascaris sp., Ascaridia galli, , Capillaria sp., Toxocara cati. Species of Cestode class egg found were Raillietina sp, from Trematode class were Echinostoma revolutum.

Abstract

This was a Community Service activity that aims to share knowladge about utilization of Curcuma Molasses Block (CMB) to increase performance of goats that infected gastrointestinal (GI) parasites to The Goat Breeder Group at  Wonorejo, Wates District, Kediri Regency. The activities include: counseling about raising goat management, presentasion on worm diseases that infect goats and CMB as anthelmentic, workshop and practice to make CMB, detection egg worm in goat`s feces, treatment on infected goats and filling out questionnaires evaluating the performance of goat before and after giving CMB. The result show that all of feces samples were positive contain egg worms of  Haemonchus contortus, Chabertina ovina, Trichuris globulosa, Strongyloides papillosus, Fasciola gigantica, Trichostrongylus spp., Toxocara sp., and Oesohagustomum columbianum even also protozoans  Eimeria sp., and Blastocystis sp. Administration CMB increase performance of worm-infected goats which indicated by increase in appetite, soft and shiny hair and the body more well-fed.

Abstract

A study on the infestation of ectoparasites in chicken’s raised in Village of Kramat, District of Bangkalan, Regency of Bangkalan was conducted between July to October 2017. A total of 60 chickens were examined based on their sex and region of the chicken’s body. Identification was carried out on ectoparasites found identified using permanent mounting methods and scraping. The types of ectoparasites were M. gallinae 77%, L. caponis 52%, M. stramineus 15%, R. sanguineus 3%, G. gallinae 2%, G. gigas 2%, and D. gallinae 2%. Data were analyzed using Chi Square and Correspondence. The results of infestation was higher in males than females, although the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Results of analysis of the pattern of investation of ectoparasites in the region that includes in males and females body are M. gallinae in the region of the back. L. caponis in the region of the wings. M. stramineus. R. sanguineus in the region of the head-neck, G. gigas in the region of belly, G. gallinae in the region of the leg just found in the males body. D. gallinae in the region of the leg just found in the females body.
