Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pomegranate extract of 40% ellagic acid on blood profile of albino rats that had nephrotoxicity after included with Gentamicin. a total of 32 white rats were divided into four treatment groups, each consisting of eight rats. the four treatment groups were healthy rats (P0), Gentamicin induced rats (P1), Gentamicin induced rats and ellagic acid treatment (P2) and Gentamicin induced rats and standardized Pomegranate extract therapy 40% ellagic acid treatment (P3). After seven days of treatment, blood was taken for blood profile tests. The results showed that in the Gentamicin-induced group (P0), a decrease in blood profile allegedly caused by Gentamicin that could cause damage and impaired renal tubular function. Givibg ellagic acid and pomegranate extracts of 40% ellagic acid proved to improve the blood profile of Gentamicin induced rats. This is due to inhibition of renal damage and improved renal function due to antioxidant activity possessed by ellagic acid and pomegranate extract of standardized 40% ellagic acid.

Abstract

Tretinoin has an important role in wound healing process include improve fibroplasia and collagen synthesis, maintening humoral immunity, and neutralize steroid effect.Epithelization  and fibroblast proliferation were very important event in wound healing process. The aims of this study were studying epithelization and fibroblas proliferation on incision wound healing process using pre treatment of  Tretinoin 0,1%  topically on mice. This research used 24 male mice, 3 month of age, with 150 -180 gram of body weight. The mice were divided into 2 groups, control group (K) and treatment group (P). The control group was a group of mice with an incision wound, while the treatment group was a group of mice with an incision wound that received a pretreatment of Tretionin of 0.1% topically. Each group was divided into 2 sub groups K4, K7, P4, P7 based on time of samples collecting. K4 and P4 were examined at  day 4, while K7 and P7 were examined at day 7. Epithelialization was observed by measuring the length of the epithelial incision area, whereas fibroblast proliferation was performed by counting the number of fibroblasts in five field of view on histopathologic skin preparations processed by HE staining. In this study, pretreatment of Tretinoin 0,1%  topically can increase epithelialization and number of fibroblast significantly (p<0,05).This increase may be due to 1% Tretinoin in the tissues to induce keratinocyte basal proliferation including its migration to the skin surface via retinoic acid receptors ( RARδ)Pretreatment of Tretinoin 0,1% topically can increased epithelialization and number of fibroblast on incision wound healing process of albino rats

Abstract

The aims of this research was to determine the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on the healing of incision wounds in rat skin (Rattus norvegicus) that infected with MRSA bacteria by evaluating and give a score (0 – 4) at wound healing factors such as epithelialization, angiogenesis, inflammatory cells, fibroblast cells and collagen density. This study used 25 white rats divided randomly into 5 groups with 5 replications, namely P0 = MRSA infection wound + Povidone Iodine, P1 = MRSA infection wound + Silver Sulfadiazine, P2 = MRSA infection wound + 5-minute PDT irradiation, P3 = MRSA infection wound + 10- minute PDT irradiation and P4 = MRSA infection wound + 15-minute PDT irradiation. Histopathological observations and scoring showed epithelialization and collagen density in groups P2, P3 and P4 increased significantly compared to groups P0 and P1 (p<0.05). The histopathological observations and scoring of angiogenesis, inflammatory cells, fibroblast cells of P0 and P1 groups had a higher score than the treatment group with photodynamic therapy P2, P3 and P4 (p<0.05). This condition showed that in the P0 and P1 groups are still in the inflammatory phase, while in the P2, P3 and P4 groups have entered the remodeling phase which is characterized by high epithelialization scores and collagen density. Giving photodynamic therapy to wounds infected with MRSA can accelerate the wound healing process.

Abstract

This study aims to identify morphology and molecular of Blastocystis infection in pigs in the Tabanan and Badung District, Bali Province, Indonesia. 100 samples of pig stool were taken, fifty samples from the Tabanan and fifty samples from Badung District. Blastocystis sp. isolated and identified microscopically and confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a molecular identification method. 63% (63/100) Blastocystis is found in pig feces from these two District by microscopic detection. Positive samples were found 27 samples from Badung and 36 samples from Tabanan. Five samples were taken from each District conducted a confirmation test using the PCR method and found 60% (6/10) positive samples, two samples from Badung and four samples from Tabanan. The results of this study indicate that in healthy pigs, they also contain parasites that have the potential to spread disease to humans. Therefore, the high incidence of Blastocystis in pigs can be an alarm or warning to prevent Blastocystis infection from livestock that can potentially to be a reservoir in the spread of disease.

Abstract

Burns are one of the health problems in modern society that are associated with tissue damage that is difficult to repair and affect patients, both physically and psychologically. This study was conducted to evaluate the potential of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG ) ointment to the healing process of second degree skin burn induced by attaching 85ºC plate with 1 cm of diameter for 5 second on the skin of albino rat (Rattus norvegicus). Twenty-five rats were divided into 5 treatment groups. The P0 group was a group of rat that suffered burns and were treated with ointment base (PEG). The P1 group was a group of rat that suffered burns and were given standard therapy with silver sulfadiazine. P2, P3 and P4 groups are groups of rat that have burns and are treated with EGCG ointments with concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 4% respectively. At the end of the study, skin tissue excision was carried out to make histopathological preparations using HE staining. Evaluation of histopathological preparations was carried out on reepithelialization collagen deposition, PMN infiltration, and angiogenesis. The results of the study in group P4 showed that the highest collagen formation and re-epithelialization process was accompanied by a marked decrease in the inflammatory process and angiogenesis. This condition is significantly different from groups P0, P1, P2, and P3. Healing second degree burns with 4% EGCG is better than other treatmentJurnal Veteriner Maret 2019 Vol. 1 No. 1 : 1-7 pISSN: 1411-8327; eISSN: 2477-5665 DOI: 10.19087/jveteriner.2019.20.1.1 Terakreditasi Nasional, Dirjen Penguatan Riset dan Pengembangan, online pada http://ojs.unud.ac.id/index.php/jvet Kemenristek Dikti RI S.K. Hewan Eksperimental Sebanyak 25 ekor tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan, umur tiga bulan dengangroups. This is presumably because the compounds contained therein have antioxidant activity, antiinflammatory and antibacterial. These three activities will synergize in the process of healing wounds. Provision of 4% EGCG ointment for 14 days in second degree burns can accelerate the wound healing process which is characterized by improved re-epithelialization, collagen deposition, PMN infiltration in the wound area, and angiogenesis.

Abstract

This study aims to determined the effects of using nano-meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) extract on the feed economic value and income over feed costs of broiler chicken farms. This research method was an observational study with a sample of one-day-old Cobb strain broiler chicken at PT. Haraka Kitri Endah. A total of 79.600 day-old-chicken were divided into 4 groups of treatments and eight replications, each group of treatments consisted of 19.900 day-old-chicken. Treatments are given for 14 days – from the chickens are 21 days old until the chickens reach 35 days old consisted of T0, as the control group, was not given nano-meniran extract and was only given mineral feed; T1 was given nano-meniran extract 5%; T2 was given nano-meniran extract 10%; and T3 was given nano-meniran extract 20%. The administration of nano-meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) extract on the feed’s economic value and income over feed costs showed a significant difference (p<0.05). Research results showed the feed economic value of the broiler chickens are T0 = IDR 13.345,21; T1= IDR 12.315,57; T2 = IDR 13.057,11; and T3 = IDR 13.476,69. Income over feed costs calculations showed that T0 = IDR 8.942,13; T1= IDR 11.276,63; T2 = IDR 8.848,44; and T3 = IDR 8.299,44. T1 with nano-meniran extract 5% gives the best result. This research showed that nano-meniran extract has an immunomodulatory activity that positively impacts broiler chickens because it reduces the feed’s economic value and increases the income over feed costs.
