Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the variation in morphology and detection Leucocytozoon caulleryi by PCR in mtDNA genes cty b that attacking bred chickens in endemic areas of Indonesia. This study was divided into three stages, data collection of Leucocytozoonosis cases in endemic areas of Indonesia; identification of parasites Leucocytozoon caulleryi morphologically through microscopic examination; and the identification of Leucocytozoon caulleryi cyt b genes that attack bred chickens in endemic areas by PCR. The results showed that there are variations in morphology of Leucocytozoon caulleryi that attacking chicken in endemic areas of Indonesia. Gamete morphometry of L. caulleryi had an average length and width 18.233 ± 4.672 dan 12.934 ± 3.349 µm. Nested PCR clearly showed positive reaction of Leucocytozoon infections by amplicons in 600 bp and 03 bp length.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pomegranate extract of 40% ellagic acid on blood profile of albino rats that had nephrotoxicity after included with Gentamicin. a total of 32 white rats were divided into four treatment groups, each consisting of eight rats. the four treatment groups were healthy rats (P0), Gentamicin induced rats (P1), Gentamicin induced rats and ellagic acid treatment (P2) and Gentamicin induced rats and standardized Pomegranate extract therapy 40% ellagic acid treatment (P3). After seven days of treatment, blood was taken for blood profile tests. The results showed that in the Gentamicin-induced group (P0), a decrease in blood profile allegedly caused by Gentamicin that could cause damage and impaired renal tubular function. Givibg ellagic acid and pomegranate extracts of 40% ellagic acid proved to improve the blood profile of Gentamicin induced rats. This is due to inhibition of renal damage and improved renal function due to antioxidant activity possessed by ellagic acid and pomegranate extract of standardized 40% ellagic acid.

Abstract

Tretinoin has an important role in wound healing process include improve fibroplasia and collagen synthesis, maintening humoral immunity, and neutralize steroid effect.Epithelization  and fibroblast proliferation were very important event in wound healing process. The aims of this study were studying epithelization and fibroblas proliferation on incision wound healing process using pre treatment of  Tretinoin 0,1%  topically on mice. This research used 24 male mice, 3 month of age, with 150 -180 gram of body weight. The mice were divided into 2 groups, control group (K) and treatment group (P). The control group was a group of mice with an incision wound, while the treatment group was a group of mice with an incision wound that received a pretreatment of Tretionin of 0.1% topically. Each group was divided into 2 sub groups K4, K7, P4, P7 based on time of samples collecting. K4 and P4 were examined at  day 4, while K7 and P7 were examined at day 7. Epithelialization was observed by measuring the length of the epithelial incision area, whereas fibroblast proliferation was performed by counting the number of fibroblasts in five field of view on histopathologic skin preparations processed by HE staining. In this study, pretreatment of Tretinoin 0,1%  topically can increase epithelialization and number of fibroblast significantly (p<0,05).This increase may be due to 1% Tretinoin in the tissues to induce keratinocyte basal proliferation including its migration to the skin surface via retinoic acid receptors ( RARδ)Pretreatment of Tretinoin 0,1% topically can increased epithelialization and number of fibroblast on incision wound healing process of albino rats

Abstract

Research of gastrointestinal protozoan in cats at Surabaya are still limited. Protozoa infection of the gastrointestinal tract can cause diarrhea and even zoonosis. This research aimed to identify and determine the prevalence of protozoan in cats in animal hostptal and animal clinic in Surabaya. Ninety  fecal samples were collected from 2 animal clinic and one animal hospital. Samples were  examined e wet mount (native, sedimentation, and floatation) and (Ziehl Nellsen) stain. Protozoa was identified by using a light microscope with 400x and 1000x magnification. The result showed 68,89% of samples were positively infected by gastrointestinal protozoa. The protozoa were Blastocystis sp, Cryptosporidium sp, Giardia sp, and Eimeria sp. By chi square test, there was  not significant differences the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoan in cat between sex, age, breed, and diarrhea status

Abstract

This was a Community Service activity that aims to share knowladge about utilization of Curcuma Molasses Block (CMB) to increase performance of goats that infected gastrointestinal (GI) parasites to The Goat Breeder Group at  Wonorejo, Wates District, Kediri Regency. The activities include: counseling about raising goat management, presentasion on worm diseases that infect goats and CMB as anthelmentic, workshop and practice to make CMB, detection egg worm in goat`s feces, treatment on infected goats and filling out questionnaires evaluating the performance of goat before and after giving CMB. The result show that all of feces samples were positive contain egg worms of  Haemonchus contortus, Chabertina ovina, Trichuris globulosa, Strongyloides papillosus, Fasciola gigantica, Trichostrongylus spp., Toxocara sp., and Oesohagustomum columbianum even also protozoans  Eimeria sp., and Blastocystis sp. Administration CMB increase performance of worm-infected goats which indicated by increase in appetite, soft and shiny hair and the body more well-fed.

Abstract

Broiler chicken farms could be a part of potential source infection Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis disease due to the death of livestock. Broiler farms in Tanjung Gunung, District Jombang near the fields, water, and trees. This could be increase the population of vectors infection Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis. The main purpose of this researchis to detect Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis infections on broiler farms in Tnjung Gunung Village, District Jombang using 50 broiler chickens by Purposive Sampling  of 2 bredeers. The result show rhat there are 6 positive samples infected Leucocytozoonosis, while Plasmodiosis infection could not be fond. Need cage sanitation to break life cycles of vector Leucocytozoonosis and Plasmodiosis.

Abstract

This study aims to determined the effects of using nano-meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) extract on the feed economic value and income over feed costs of broiler chicken farms. This research method was an observational study with a sample of one-day-old Cobb strain broiler chicken at PT. Haraka Kitri Endah. A total of 79.600 day-old-chicken were divided into 4 groups of treatments and eight replications, each group of treatments consisted of 19.900 day-old-chicken. Treatments are given for 14 days – from the chickens are 21 days old until the chickens reach 35 days old consisted of T0, as the control group, was not given nano-meniran extract and was only given mineral feed; T1 was given nano-meniran extract 5%; T2 was given nano-meniran extract 10%; and T3 was given nano-meniran extract 20%. The administration of nano-meniran (Phyllanthus niruri) extract on the feed’s economic value and income over feed costs showed a significant difference (p<0.05). Research results showed the feed economic value of the broiler chickens are T0 = IDR 13.345,21; T1= IDR 12.315,57; T2 = IDR 13.057,11; and T3 = IDR 13.476,69. Income over feed costs calculations showed that T0 = IDR 8.942,13; T1= IDR 11.276,63; T2 = IDR 8.848,44; and T3 = IDR 8.299,44. T1 with nano-meniran extract 5% gives the best result. This research showed that nano-meniran extract has an immunomodulatory activity that positively impacts broiler chickens because it reduces the feed’s economic value and increases the income over feed costs.
