Abstract

The mining industry plays an important role in economic development, but also presents significant occupational safety risks. Strengthening safety culture is crucial to protect workers and ensure the sustainability of company operations. This study aims to analyze the main factors that shape safety culture in the mining sector through a systematic review approach. This research method follows the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines by reviewing relevant literature published in the last five years. The analysis identified five main factors that influence safety culture: (1) management commitment, (2) safety training, (3) worker involvement, (4) effective communication, and (5) safe working environment. Strong management commitment has been shown to improve the provision of safety resources, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and consistent supervision. Regular and innovative safety training can improve worker compliance with safety procedures. Active involvement of workers in safety-related decision-making promotes a sense of shared responsibility. Effective communication between management and workers improves understanding of occupational risks and safety procedures. In addition, ergonomic work environments and standardized equipment reduce the potential for accidents. This research confirms the importance of a holistic approach in strengthening safety culture in the mining industry. The integration of management leadership, comprehensive training, worker involvement, good communication, and supporting infrastructure are key in minimizing workplace accidents and creating a strong safety culture.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that often presents without symptoms and is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The prevalence of hypertension is significantly higher in women compared to men. Among women of childbearing age, hypertension increases the risk of complications during pregnancy, such as preeclampsia and bleeding. Elevated hematocrit levels are strongly associated with hypertension in women, contributing to increased vascular resistance and blood pressure. Efforts to manage hypertension include pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. In North Maluku, one of the traditional healing practices passed down through generations for lowering blood pressure involves the use of African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina). This study aims to analyze changes in hematocrit levels and blood pressure in women of childbearing age with hypertension before and after consuming 2.4 grams of African leaf tea (Vernonia amygdalina) for 14 days as a companion to antihypertensive medicine. This research employed a true experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group format. The population consisted of 97 hypertensive women of childbearing age in the service area of the Sanana Public Health Center, Sula Islands, North Maluku. A total of 32 participants were randomly selected. The intervention group received Amlodipine 5 mg as an antihypertensive medication along with 2.4 grams of African leaf tea consumed once daily for 14 days. Blood pressure measurements and venous blood sampling for hematocrit level analysis were conducted on days 8 and 15. Data were analyzed using the General Linear Model Repeated Measures (GLM-RM) approach. The findings demonstrated significant reductions in hematocrit levels and blood pressure among hypertensive women of childbearing age in the intervention group, with a p-value of 0.000. The administration of 2.4 grams of African leaf tea (Vernonia amygdalina) daily for 14 days, as a complementary therapy to antihypertensive medication, is effective in reducing hematocrit levels and blood pressure in women of childbearing age with hypertension.

Abstract

Midwives are healthcare workers who make the first physical contact with newborns during delivery. They bear significant responsibilities in preventing COVID-19, which can contribute to increased anxiety levels. Many factors are associated with healthcare workers' anxiety, yet studies specifically focusing on predictors of anxiety among midwives remain limited. This analytical study utilized a cross-sectional approach to identify predictors of anxiety among midwives during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nagan Raya District. The study involved a sample of 533 midwives, with data collected via Google Forms. Multivariate analysis was conducted using multiple logistic regression tests with a 95% confidence level. The study found that 43 midwives (81.24%) experienced anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors significantly associated with anxiety included age ≥32 years (p-value = 0.006; OR = 1.86; 95% CI: 1.20–2.89), workload (p-value = 0.000; OR = 2.43; 95% CI: 1.53–3.84), independent midwifery practice (p-value = 0.044; OR = 4.44; 95% CI: 1.04–18.95), and acting as the primary birth attendant (p-value = 0.032; OR = 1.61; 95% CI: 1.04–2.49). The most dominant factor associated with anxiety was high workload (p-value = 0.000; OR = 2.35; 95% CI: 1.46–3.79). Midwives with high workloads were 2.35 times more likely to experience anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to those with lower workloads. It is recommended that midwives reduce their workloads and manage their tasks by creating structured work plans. Additionally, midwives should improve their managerial skills to distribute workloads effectively among team members.

Abstract

Generation Z today cannot go a day without gadgets. Over time, Generation Alpha is likely to become similarly preoccupied with gadgets, as they have been influenced by technology since birth and view it as an essential tool for both school and other activities. Excessive gadget use negatively impacts the quantity and quality of sleep. This study employed a cross-sectional design to analyze the relationship between gadget addiction, sleep quality, and academic performance among adolescents in the coastal and mountainous areas of Pidie Regency. The sample consisted of 337 students from Kembang Tanjong High School and 159 students from Tangse High School, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and linear regression. The results showed no significant differences in the average sleep quality and gadget addiction levels between adolescents in coastal and mountainous regions. However, there was a significant difference in the average academic performance between these two groups. Factors associated with sleep quality included age, male gender, mothers’ lower education level, gadget addiction, and anxiety. Meanwhile, factors influencing academic performance were male gender, gadget addiction, social media motives, ease of gadget access, depression, and anxiety. Adolescents are encouraged to reduce gadget usage, as it adversely affects sleep quality and academic performance. They can replace gadget usage with positive activities such as physical exercise, playing sports, socializing with peers, studying together, and other productive activities.

Abstract

Schizophrenia patients often experience significant challenges in daily functioning, leading to dependence on caregivers and imposing a substantial burden on families. This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of telenursing-based psychoeducation in improving family knowledge and reducing family burden in the care of schizophrenia patients. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, analyzing 15 articles published between August 2014 and August 2024. Articles were sourced from Google Scholar and PubMed for English-language studies, and Google Scholar for Indonesian-language studies. The PRISMA framework and PICO methodology guided the selection and analysis of relevant studies. The findings from the 15 selected articles demonstrate that telenursing-based psychoeducation effectively reduces family burden and enhances caregivers' knowledge in managing schizophrenia patients. Various approaches, including telenursing interventions, technology-based applications, and traditional psychoeducation methods, provide significant benefits and can be integrated into mental health care practices. The successful implementation of telenursing-based psychoeducation requires active commitment, resilience, and collaboration from both nurses and family members involved in the care of schizophrenia patients.

Abstract

The elderly group, particularly those in nursing homes, is at a higher risk of experiencing a lower quality of life compared to elderly individuals who live at home or within the community. Therefore, monitoring the quality of life in nursing homes is essential to assess the wellbeing of the elderly and provide input for more targeted efforts to meet their needs. Objective: This study aims to provide information on the quality of life of the elderly, focusing specifically on the independent elderly group at nursing home X, located in Pamulang, Banten Province. Method: The study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 45 out of 51 independent elderly individuals residing at nursing home X during the study period were involved. The WHOQoL-BREF instrument was used to measure the quality of life. Results: The findings revealed that the overall average quality of life score was categorized as good (60.2 ± 8.65). However, the average scores for each domain were as follows: physical domain 53.8 ± 10.6, psychological domain 59.2 ± 9.77, social relationship domain 61.7 ± 16.45, and environmental domain 66.1 ± 11.37. These scores indicate that the quality of life in the physical and psychological domain was predominantly unsatisfactory. Furthermore, the quality of life in the social domain also demands improvement. In addition, this study found a significant relationship between the quality of life and both the educational background (pvalue=0.009) and economic status (pvalue=0.025) of the elderly. Conclusions: Efforts to improve physical well-being require serious attention at nursing home X. Additionally, psychological, and social support initiatives are necessary. Further research exploring the challenges within each domain in greater depth and developing integrated interventions in collaboration with various stakeholders, including partners of the nursing home, is essential to enhance the well-being of the elderly.
