Abstract

This research examines the interactions of members and the lesbian community in Langsa City, an area in Aceh that implements Islamic law in Indonesia. This research uses Ervin Goffman's dramaturgical theory. The research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Collecting data by conducting in-depth and regular interviews with four lesbian people. Their appearance in public is a very taboo phenomenon in this area, and this condition is a challenge for lesbians to establish communication with society so that their existence can be accepted. Important findings in this research show how members of the lesbian community develop communication and interactions very carefully, using more symbolic language when they are in public places. The symbols or signals used by the lesbian community to communicate are very specific when in public places, namely, starting from the way they dress, the language used, and physical touch such as touching hands, glances, and eye contact

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the state's strategy for promoting religious moderation in Indonesia, specifically through a review of authoritative communication and socialization patterns. The research question raised is how the Indonesian government utilizes authoritative communication strategies to disseminate the values of religious moderation and how effective these efforts are in influencing public perceptions. The research method used is a literature study with a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, where the primary sources consist of scientific journals published in the last 10 years, alongside secondary references from books, articles, and online media. The research results show that the authoritative communication pattern implemented by the government is quite effective in conveying the message of religious moderation, particularly through education, mass media, and the involvement of religious leaders. As a result, this strategy has succeeded in raising public awareness of the importance of moderation, although challenges such as radicalism and intolerance remain.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the role of transcendental communication in improving the morality of students at State Islamic Religious Colleges (PTKIN) in Indonesia. Transcendental communication, through prayer, dhikr, and reading the Quran, is an important element in the formation of student character, especially in their relationship with Allah, themselves, others, and the environment. This study is motivated by the importance of character education in Islam that needs to be applied consistently in the PTKIN environment. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, which involves in-depth interviews with PTKIN students. Additional data were obtained through documentation and observation of religious activities on campus. The results of the study indicate that transcendental communication significantly improves students' morality , especially in terms of discipline, patience, empathy, and awareness of responsibility towards the environment. The recommendation from this study is for PTKIN to strengthen religious programs based on worship and create a campus environment that supports the consistency of student worship. The results of this study provide a real contribution by offering an empirical basis for PTKIN to integrate transcendental communication into the curriculum and religious programs in order to form the character of students with noble morals, thus supporting the creation of an academic environment that is oriented towards spiritual and moral values.

Abstract

Da'wah is the act of inviting people to do good and avoid wrongdoing (amar ma'ruf nahi mungkar). Traditionally, mosques, prayer rooms, and similar settings have hosted lectures and gatherings for da'wah. However, as technology advances, da'wah has adapted to the digital age, with social media becoming an increasingly popular medium. Among the figures utilizing these platforms is Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus, who actively employs YouTube and Instagram to reach a broader audience, particularly Muslim women. As a prominent female Muslim figure, Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus has embraced the opportunities offered by digital platforms to carry out da'wah in the modern era. This study examines two key aspects: the role of Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus in digital da'wah and the strategies she employs to convey Islamic teachings through YouTube and Instagram. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method, this study applies content analysis to explore the messages shared by Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus on these platforms. The findings highlight her significant role in promoting digital da'wah, particularly in empowering Muslim women. Her efforts have had a positive impact on strengthening women's faith, expanding their knowledge, and improving their social awareness. What distinguishes her da'wah is the way she delivers her messages—thoughtfully crafted to inspire and resonate with the daily lives of Muslim women. Furthermore, her success in leveraging Instagram and YouTube lies in her ability to present engaging and creative content that effectively spreads Islamic values to a broader audience

Abstract

This study examines the communication strategies employed by Prophet Yusuf in addressing the food crisis in Egypt, as narrated in the Quran. The main issue discussed is how Prophet Yusuf's communication approach facilitated strategic decision-making to resolve the crisis. The purpose of this study is to explore and understand how Prophet Yusuf utilized processes such as self-reflection and emotional regulation to formulate policies and take actions during a critical situation. The research employs a qualitative approach with textual analysis of the Quran and its interpretations. Additionally, a communication analysis approach is used to identify communication processes, including self-reflection, internal dialogue, and personal evaluation, in the context of strategic decision-making. This approach links psychological and communication aspects to better understand Prophet Yusuf's role as a leader during a crisis. The findings reveal that Prophet Yusuf relied on deep self-reflection, effective emotional management, constructive internal dialogue, and strategic planning as key elements in tackling the food crisis. The implications of this research contribute to the field of communication studies, particularly in the context of crisis management, by emphasizing the importance of communication as a foundation for effective decision-making. These findings are expected to inspire the application of communication strategies in addressing crises across various fields of life.

Abstract

This study discusses how the shifting meaning of achievement and the process of commodification is represented in the game show Clash of Champions organized by the technology-based education platform Ruangguru. Using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, this research explores the relationship between discursive, social, and textual practices within the show. The findings indicate that the competition positions achievement as a commodity aligned with global market needs, utilizing the accomplishments of finalist figures, such as Shakira and Axel, as marketing tools, in line with Mosco's framework of commodification. Critical discourse analysis also reveals that the meaning of achievement has shifted from being seen as the result of individual hard work to being perceived as excellence in specific fields, such as logic and mathematics, which hold market value. Moreover, the figure of runner-up Axel Giofanny reinforces the narrative that achievement is framed as success in obtaining scholarships and continuing education at prestigious universities abroad. This study contributes to understanding how technology-based education platforms reshape social values through the construction of competition and achievement discourse while reflecting the power of social structures in reproducing the ideology of global capitalism.

Abstract

This study examines the communication strategy of the Seunuddon Sub-district Head, Aceh, in developing Seunuddon Beach tourism amidst the rejection of religious leaders and the low human resources of the community. Using a qualitative approach with case studies, data were obtained through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings of this study indicate that the Persuasive communication strategy carried out by the Seunuddon Sub-district Head by involving all elements of society, especially community leaders as mediators and religious leaders, as well as direct involvement of the community at the Seunuddon Beach destination location, has succeeded in overcoming resistance and increasing tourist visits to the location, thereby improving the local economy in 2025. Based on Hovland's Persuasive Communication Theory and Tosun's Community-Based Tourism Theory, this study confirms the effectiveness of inclusive communication for sustainable tourism development, although low digital literacy remains a challenge. This study offers theoretical and practical insights by enriching the literature by integrating CBT and persuasion theory in the context of peripheral tourism. Practically, these findings offer guidance for regional leaders to design inclusive, culturally sensitive, and empowerment-based communication for tourism development in rural areas.

Abstract

In this study, Roland Barthes’ semiotic technique is used to analyze the symbolism of marriage in the lyrics of Lagu Pernikahan Kita performed by Tiara Andini and Arsy Widianto. The song functions as a communication tool, using its lyrics to convey emotions and ideas. The significance of this work is reflected in its popularity. With an interpretative perspective and qualitative methodology, the study focuses on the use of language to understand meaning. Without conducting interviews, data is collected through document analysis, specifically by examining the song lyrics. The findings show that, at the denotative level, the lyrics depict sacred moments of marriage, happiness, the couple’s aspirations, and their dedication to a lifelong relationship. The lyrics convey deep metaphorical meanings of marriage as a life journey, expressing a profound longing for lifelong love, togetherness, and emotional support. Finally, at the mythic level, the lyrics reinforce the cultural perspective that marriage is the pinnacle of romantic relationships and a symbol of emotional maturity. Lagu Pernikahan Kita functions not only as entertainment but also as a cultural text that reflects and constructs social values and the ideology of marriage within the Indonesian context. A deep understanding of its meaning is essential to reveal the cultural and communicative functions contained within it.

Abstract

YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram have become key platforms for digital da’wah, particularly in reaching younger audiences. This study applies a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis of ten purposively selected popular videos. The analysis focused on themes, rhetoric, visualaudio elements, and audience responses. The findings reveal unique characteristics of each platform. YouTube is marked by long, systematic, and argumentative sermons that enable deeper understanding. TikTok emphasizes short, concise, emotional, and viral content, making it effective for audiences with limited attention spans. Instagram highlights visual aesthetics and reflective messages, supported by interactive features such as comments and Q&A. These patterns illustrate the need for adaptive communication strategies aligned with algorithms and media consumption habits. The notion of “digital jihad” is interpreted as a non-physical struggle to spread Islamic values online while prioritizing ethics, substance, and engagement. Digital da’wah thus serves not only as religious communication but also as cultural activism that strengthens Islamic identity among youth in the digital era.
