Abstract

Mass media has a very important role in distributing information to society, which is part of democracy. However, in carrying out its function as social control, the media has limitations, and the media also has a relationship with local authorities. The local authority, which we call the government, will try to build relationships with the media to build the government's image through reporting in local media. This study is qualitative research that uses a content analysis approach. The use of qualitative research is related to the nature of the data collected, which is an exploration of meaning, experiences, and phenomena related to local mass media in Langsa. Through qualitative data, this research attempts to analyze the relationship between mass media and politics in Langsa City during the reporting process. The research object is focused on online news in Langsa City, such as Tanyoe Langsa, Chapnews.com, and Beritalima.com in Langsa, and Serambi.com, online People's Thoughts, Online People's Daily, and political figures. The research results show that the mass media has a strong relationship with the government, so it tends to provide news that supports government policies and programs. The mass media, BeritaLima.com, TanyoLangsa, and Chapnews, have a role that tends to support the government in reporting due to the relationships that are formed. Therefore, the mass media needs to strive to maintain editorial independence and freedom in presenting accurate, balanced information and prioritizing its role as a government watchdog in the democratic process.

Abstract

Theologically, gambling is an immoral act that is forbidden by Islam and is a major sin. Likewise, in the legal system of the Republic of Indonesia, gambling is categorized as a criminal act. Even so, the facts show that millions of Indonesians can still access gambling sites and get involved in these illegal games. This condition is very worrying because the practice of online gambling can definitely damage the order of people's lives, both in the theological and sociological aspects. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to understand the facts of online gambling in depth. Data was collected using documentation methods from various sources such as the Koran, books, journals, online news and laws and regulations related to the research object. The research results show that there are three strategies for preaching to eradicate online gambling, namely: First, a theological normative approach, namely by instilling an understanding of the prohibition and dangers of online gambling. This strategy can be used in fardhiah or mass da'wah, such as in tabligh akbar or recitation activities. Second, the educational approach involves the active role of teachers as preachers in the school environment. Individually, each teacher should be able to touch on gambling material in each lesson. Institutionally, schools can create a special curriculum that emphasizes awareness of the dangers of online gambling and activates the activities of school da'wah institutions. Third, the technological approach. Da'i can use da'wah strategies in the form of using digital media to spread anti-gambling content and develop alternative media platforms that are positive for society.

Abstract

When it comes to preach (da'wah), it can be challenging to connect with university students as the main target audience, particularly those who are not very involved in religious activities. Additionally, there are limitations in terms of human resources, budget, and infrastructure that can impact the implementation of effective communication tactics. This study aims to analyze the communication strategies utilized by campus da'wah institutions as a means of assistance for da'wah activists at IAIN Langsa. The data was obtained through in-depth interviews with da'wah institution managers and activists, as well as participatory observation of da'wah activities. The results show that effective communication strategies play a vital role in extending the reach of da'wah, reinforcing the Islamic identity of students, and boosting participation in da'wah activities. The importance of improving communication strategies to boost the impact of da'wah on campus and promoting a deeper understanding of the role of da'wah institutions in molding a community based on Islamic values at IAIN Langsa is highlighted by this research.

Abstract

The use of social media has become a significant phenomenon among college students today. Social media offers a platform to communicate, share information, and build relationships virtually. However, the impact of intensive use of social media on social interaction among students is still a matter of debate. This study aims to investigate how the use of social media affects social interaction among students. This study uses a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to a sample of students from various majors at several universities. The questionnaire was designed to collect data on the frequency of social media use, the types of social media used, and their social interaction patterns in daily life. Data analysis was carried out to determine the correlation between the variables of social media use and the level of social interaction among students. The results of the study showed that there was a significant correlation between the use of social media and student social interaction patterns. Students who use high-intensity social media tend to have more frequent social interactions through digital platforms compared to face-to-face interactions. However, social media use is also associated with a decrease in the ability to develop in-person interpersonal communication skills. In addition, the findings also show variations in the impact of social media use depending on the type of platform used, with visual social media such as Instagram tending to influence students' feelings and self-image more than text social media such as Twitter. The study provides a deeper understanding of how social media use affects social interaction among college students. The implications of this study highlight the need for a balanced approach to the use of social media in order to support the development of healthy and sustainable social interactions among students. Future research can further explore the psychological and social aspects of social media use to broaden our understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships in this digital age.

Abstract

The 2024 general election in West Aceh District has brought interesting phenomena, particularly regarding the use of speech billboards with certain identities inserted by legislative candidates. This paper aims to analyze the factors underlying the dysfunction of these billboards. This research employs a qualitative methodology in the form of a case study. The data was collected from the documentation of billboards that were installed prior to the commencement of the campaign period in October 2023. The data were subjected to analysis through several stages based on the social semiotic analysis method, which was developed by Theo Van Leeuwen and comprises four dimensions: discourse, genre, style, and modality. Based on the social semiotic analysis of the speech billboards of legislative candidates in West Aceh, it can be concluded that the choice of language and visualization on speech billboards is used to promote personal identity. The use of speech billboards at weddings, graduation ceremonies, and religious events can be seen as a manifestation of the tendency to use religious sentiment for one's own political gain, with the potential to disrupt the sanctity of the event and the space in which the event takes place. The visualization that the legislative candidates want to convey is visual, by displaying photos and identities that are significantly larger than the event organizer, showing that there is power for the billboard owner, in this case the legislative candidates, to present themselves.

Abstract

This research explores the application of symbolic interaction theory in collaboration between producers and musicians in the digital music production process, with a focus on the AIAIQ project, which integrates artificial intelligence (AI). This research resulted from an empirical study using a qualitative approach; this approach was used to gain an in-depth understanding of symbolic interactionism. Data sources were obtained from observations and interviews. The results of this research show that although artificial intelligence (AI) can improve technical efficiency, it can also change the dynamics of traditional social and non-verbal communication that are important for creative collaboration. By analyzing the role of human experience in interpreting AI-generated music and changes in interaction patterns, this research highlights the limitations and challenges faced by AI in maintaining the depth of human interaction in the creative process.
