Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic demands changes in all aspects of aviation to create programs to mitigate risks, so that competence in the field of health, safety, and environment (HSE) is required through an applied master's program. This study aims to obtain information about the interest of flight personnel to continue their study of the applied master's program, obtain an overview of the readiness to implement the applied master's program, and get information on the map of the needs of users of applied master's graduates at PPI Curug. The research method is combined namely quantitative and qualitative methods. Using surveys with flight personnel research objects, data collection is carried out by questionnaires and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The results of this research are that the opening of the Applied Masters Study Program received high enthusiasm from prospective participants/students, the readiness of PPI Curug in the infrastructure, curriculum, and dan unit pengelola program studi (UPPS) is sufficient but requires the addition of 3 educators with doctoral qualifications (S3), and prospective graduate users welcome and support because the resulting graduate profile is in line with industry needs.

Abstract

Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is one of the airports with the busiest traffic conditions in Indonesia. This makes ground check activities only possible when the traffic at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is quiet so that when there is a report from the pilot that the Localizer signal reception on the plane is unstable, the technician cannot immediately check the condition of the emitted signal with a ground check. Localizer at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport does not use nearfield / far-field. This makes the technician unable to know the condition of the signal emitted from the Localizer other than when the technician is carrying out a ground check. For this reason, the authors made a Localizer receiver design for technicians using the Register Transfer Level Software Defined Radio (RTL SDR). This design uses RTL SDR as a device to receive Localizer signal emission. The signal received by the RTL SDR is then processed by the Python programming language to obtain 90 Hz and 150 Hz modulation signals, which are then displayed in the Web Application. This receiver design system is expected to be able to solve the problems that arise, where this text, as the person in charge of the operation and maintenance of flight navigation equipment, often does not know about the disturbance of the navigation equipment quickly.

Abstract

The changes in the curriculum and syllabus of the Air Traffic Management study program became the background of the research. Updating learning media is expected to be able to support the learning process. The purpose of the study was to determine practical learning and the urgency of learning media needs for the NOTAM course practicum. The type of research used in this research is descriptive quantitative and qualitative research with survey methods. Students stated that the current practical learning of NOTAM courses out of ten indicators had positive scores with scores above 92%. Based on the questionnaire results, 100% of respondents agree that the urgency of the current practicum learning media is very much needed. The research was reinforced by the interview results with the supervisor, who stated that the success rate of participants in the practicum was around 70% and suggested practicum learning media so that students could demonstrate the making of NOTAM.

Abstract

Unmanned flight has been a part of everyday life. According to BI Intelegent from 2015 to 2020, the annual growth rate of small commercial UAVs is expected to reach 19%, which will result in 22 million UAV shipments by 2022. In addition, the global UAV market will reach around 10 billion USD by 2023. Problem that comes up with UAV is the propeller which based on its characteristic is a source of noise. Main noise-induced disturbance are increasing discomfort or stress, irritation, confusion, elevated blood pressure, headaches and the worst case is hearing loss. To reduce noise level caused by propeller some special treatment needed to be done to its design. The serrated trailing edge theory was first introduced by M.S. Howe and then developed by applying the serrated trailing edge to the propeller by Zhe Ning, Richard Wlezien, Hui Hu. The journal concluded that the serrated trailing edge can reduce noise up to 1.6dB. In this study, the author makes a propeller design with a serrated trailing edge using the Solidwork application. After making the design, proceed to the process of making the propeller, after being made it enters the testing stage using the Sunnysky X-2820 motor testing tool on 3000, 4000, 5000 RPM and noise is measured with a sound level meter with several differences in distance, namely 1m, 1.5m, 3m to determine the noise and thrust generated by each propeller.

Abstract

Runway Guard Light (RGL) merupakan sistem penerangan yang dibutuhkan penerbang atau pengemudi kendaraan untuk mengingatkan mereka bahwa mereka mendekati landasan pacu (runway). Sistem yang ada saat ini belum menggambarkan kondisi RGL di lapangan karena mengambil data dari kondisi Relay yang terpasang di Sub-station 2 jika kondisi Relay baik ternyata kondisi RGL padam maka sistem tetap memberikan informasi bahwa kondisi RGL baik dan sebaliknya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara memasang sensor arus tegangan AC PZEM pada kabel yang menuju RGL. Modul PZEM dioperasikan dengan menggunakan mikrokontroler Arduino kemudian masuk ke modul power line carier selanjutnya masuk ke modul power line carier yang terpasang di sub-station 2. Sinyal dari Power line carier dioperasikan dengan menggunakan mikrokontroler Arduino untuk mengaktifkan relay. Relay akan mengirimkan sinyal ke Programmable Logic Controller untuk menampilkan kondisi RGL dalam bentuk Human Machine Interface. Dengan cara mendeteksi arus tegangan AC yang mengalir pada RGL dapat diketahui kondisi RGL di taxiway Charlie secara real time. Dari hasil pengujian diperoleh jika arus yang mengalir diantara 0 – 0,1 A maka relay akan aktif artinya bahwa RGL dalam kondisi padam/rusak. Jika arus diatas 0,1 A maka relay tidak aktif artinya bahwa RGL dalam kondisi baik.

Abstract

This article reveals the level of satisfaction of the pilot cadets with the flight simulator practice learning model at the cadet of Indonesia Civil Pilot Banyuwangi (APIB). The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of cadets' satisfaction in the adaptation process of flying simulator practice learning with the online method during the Covid-19 pandemic. Satisfaction is reviewed based on the effectiveness of communication and interaction between cadets and instructors, aspects of technology support, and aspects of the length of time using the simulator room. The method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The results showed that the activities of the flight simulator practice learning process have shown a very high level of satisfaction. The obstacles faced during the pandemic can be overcome by creating an accelerated learning model through supporting technology. With the support of good facilities and infrastructure, learning activities can run effectively. The results of this study indicate that the flying simulator practice learning model for cadets can be recommended as an alternative in achieving learning effectiveness for Aviation Institutions or Schools during the Covid-19 period. The recommendations given also take into account aspects of technical support (facilities & infrastructure) as well as the readiness of the academic community within their respective institutions.

Abstract

This study analize the safety risk assessment in tools store and ground support equipment at PT. Mulya Sejahtera Technology. As Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) or provider of aircraft maintenance listed on ministry of transportation, both the area are important related to the handling of a aircraft in an apron and supporting the maintenance of aircraft. The methodology used namely descriptive and qualitative. Begins with identification hazard of any process work relating to tools store and ground support equipment, assess the risk of the hazard associated with the severity and the probability. Then the determination of mitigating steps from potential hazard has been done, so that the risk of the potential hazard can be reduced to acceptable level. The result analysis found 20 hazards with risk assessment as follows: 6 high risk, 8 medium high risk and 6 medium risk. Mitigating steps suggested that the procurement of several facilities related to safety, socialization, training and a briefing against operational personnel.

Abstract

English communication skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. However, in many students' minds communication means only interaction between the speaker and the listener. Teaching English at maritime universities and nautical colleges involves not only teaching the language and the sea-related terminology but also making the students aware of the cross-cultural issues and problems that they may encounter in their work onboard ships. The best way of teaching is, how the teacher, instructor, and lecturer can choose and use the right teaching method. FAIES is one of the unique and well-known methods in teaching which can adapt to many situations in the classroom and makes the students feel easy to understand and study comfortably during the lesson especially in speaking English. According to Freud in Wollheim (1981), FAIES (First Aid in English System) is the teaching method to emphasize or stress communication, which consists of a directional approach, functional approach, situational approach, and drilling technique. Maritime English is largely restricted to IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases, which build basic knowledge of English and had been drafted in a simplified version of maritime English. In terms of maritime education, the current simulator-based studies can be divided into two areas: marine engineering and nautical science. In particular, human factor specialists work in these two fields addressing issues concerning the relationship between humans and technology, such as simulators (Lützhöft et al. 2017). A multitude of new methodologies has been explored and discussed in recent years in an attempt to approach the training and testing of the proficiency of maritime English that meets the international standards laid out in STCW.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of additional runways and taxiways on the workload of Soekarno-Hatta Tower North Personnel. Does the 07L-25R runway condition with the current condition affect the ATC workload. The research method used is a quantitative method. The research instrument uses the NASA TLX calculation method, questionnaire and documentation study which aims to obtain data followed by testing to find out whether there is an influence between the two variables. Based on the analysis of the research data, it is concluded that the additional of new runways and taxiways currently has an influence on the ATC workload so it needs adjustments to runway operations based on related literature studies. Abstract

The structure is one of the six dimensions examined in the ICAO language proficiency test. This study aims to provide evidence on test takers’ difficulties in this area. Through the corpus mechanism, a number of interview test sessions were selected and transcribed. The grammar errors and mistakes were then analyzed under their syntactic functions. They were classified into word classes namely noun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, interjection, and determiner. They were then sorted by the most frequent occurrences. This study found that the most frequent test taker’s structure problem that occurred during the IELP test was dealing with the verb with 30%. Then, the second most frequent was the noun with 22% and the third was the preposition with 16%. The study suggested that the focus related to grammar proficiency tests must be incorporated into the syllabus of English courses in aviation training. The training should be more focused on training the student on how to arrange sentences with the correct form of verb/verb phrase, noun/noun phrase, and preposition phrase.
