Abstract

Analysis of current assessment practices is crucial to evaluate holistic development of religious and moral values in children from an early age. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of assessment techniques for the development of religious and moral values in early childhood. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method conducted in four urban villages in Baruga Sub-district, Kendari City, involving 20 Kindergarten or Raudhatul Athfal teachers recruited through proportional random sampling. The results revealed that 95% of teachers used assessment techniques to evaluate the religious and moral development of children, with direct observation being the most common method. Additionally, 90% of teachers have used rubrics and parental involvement stood at 85%, highlighting the need for improved communication. Moreover, 90% of teachers conducted daily assessments, provided regular feedback, and recorded the results in writing, with daily notes being the predominant documentation method. However, the use of portfolios remained low at 5%. It concludes that early childhood educators are committed to assessing children's religious and moral development through suitable technique, with high parental involvement and frequent assessments demonstrating the importance of continuous monitoring. Nevertheless, the limited use of portfolios suggests that some assessment tools are underutilized, which may limit the comprehensiveness of documentation. It also implies that early childhood educators require continuous professional development to enhance and diversify assessment methods, foster school-parent collaboration, and secure necessary assessments training and resources.

Abstract

Speech delays are one of the causes of developmental disorders that are often found in children. Delayed speech is a serious problem and needs immediate treatment. This research aims to find the stimulation of educators, the learning media, and the obstacles and supporting factors in dealing with 4-5-year-old children with speech delay located at RA Hidayatullah Pamekasan. This research uses a descriptive method and a qualitative approach. Data collection instruments used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The stimulations provided for children at RA Hidayatullah Pamekasan by the teachers are reading story books together, singing, and playing with puzzles and legos to trigger new vocabulary. Some media applied are storybooks and puzzles to stimulate children to talk flawlessly into correct patterns and to add new vocabulary. The media are chosen as they become effective tools to overcome speech delay difficulties and support the activities. Several factors support and challenge teachers in stimulating students with speech delays. Less stimulation provided by parents in daily life is the most inhibiting factor. In conclusion, educators have a very important role in stimulating children, especially in selecting learning activities and media for teaching students with speech delay but parents have a specific role in the whole language development stimulation. The teacher's role will be optimal by the support of the parent’s role.

Abstract

Basic talents such as early numeracy skills require early stimulation. Both in everyday life and when pursuing further education, these skills are invaluable. The use of interesting media is one way to help children develop their numeracy skills from an early age. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of learning animation video media on children's numeracy skills. This study employed the Intac-Group Comparison design, a type of pre-experimental research. Thirty samples were selected based on the purposive sampling technique; half of them went to the experimental group and half to the control group. A statistical t-test was used to conduct this study. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of the amount of improvement in post-test scores. It can be concluded that animated learning video media positively affected children's early numeracy skills because the significance value of 0.005 0.05 in hypothesis testing exhibited a significant difference between the post-test results of the experimental group and the control group. These results show that animated video media significantly affects the numeracy skills of children aged 5-6 years. This study also recommends continuing to use similar media in improving children's basic early skills.

Abstract

The interest in reading among elementary school students remains poor, especially in understanding narrative story texts. Therefore, interesting and contextual learning media is important to improve students' reading skills. This study aims to test the efficacy of the use of digital comics based on local culture on the story reading skills of 5th-grade elementary school students. The study applied an experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group model. The study subjects involved 68 students in 5th grade who were segmented into two groups: an experimental group using digital comic media based on local culture, and a control group using conventional textbooks. The instrument included a story reading skill test. Data were analysed using a t-test. The results showed that the t-count value of 6.970 was higher than the t-table of 2.035, indicating a significant discrepancy between the experimental and control groups. Students using digital comics indicated higher improvement in reading skills and responded positively to the content, display, and cultural content in the media. This study concludes that digital comics using local culture are effectively used in learning to read stories in elementary schools. The implication of this research is the need for teachers to develop and utilise local culture-based media as an innovative alternative in Indonesian language learning. In addition to improving reading skills, this media also strengthens cultural identity and student involvement in the learning process.

Abstract

Ethical development in children is pivotal for shaping societies grounded in integrity, empathy, and social responsibility. In the Nigerian context, this development is shaped by the dynamic interplay of family structures, educational systems, and cultural values. This literature review critically examines existing research on how these factors collectively influence moral growth among Nigerian children. Emphasis is placed on the family as the foundational unit of moral transmission, highlighting the impact of parenting styles, religious practices, and communal values. The review also explores the role of the educational system in promoting ethical reasoning through formal curricula, character education, and community service while acknowledging systemic challenges such as teacher capacity, curriculum gaps, and institutional corruption. Cultural influences, including traditional African ethics, religious teachings, and the pressures of globalization and digital media, are analyzed to understand their complex effects on children's moral orientation. Drawing on peer-reviewed journal articles, policy documents, and empirical studies, the review adopts an integrative approach to synthesizing both indigenous and global perspectives. However, it recognizes limitations in the existing literature, including a scarcity of Nigeria-specific empirical studies, uneven methodological rigor, and the underrepresentation of indigenous moral frameworks. By addressing these gaps, this review aims to provide both theoretical insight and practical recommendations. It advocates a multidimensional strategy that reinforces family engagement, integrates culturally relevant moral education, and mobilizes religious and societal institutions. Ultimately, this literature review offers a contextual blueprint for nurturing a morally resilient generation equipped to navigate the ethical complexities of contemporary Nigerian society

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the use of the Petualangan si Kancil picture storybook on reading comprehension and motivation among ninth-grade students in the Tanggetada sub-district, Kolaka Regency, with a focus on gender differences. The quantitative design quasi-experimental scheme was used by nonrandomized control, pretest, and posttest design with 54 students divided into an experimental group (27 students) and a control group (27 students). The experimental class used a picture storybook of Petualangan Si Kancil and the control class used the 2013 curriculum book. The experimental class consists of 11 male and 16 female genders, while the control class consists of 10 male and 17 female genders. The instrument used was a written test questionnaire. Data were collected through pretest and posttest measures of reading skills and motivation and analyzed using an Independent sample-t test, with pre-requisite tests (Normality, Homogeneity, and Hypothesis testing) conducted to ensure validity. Results indicate that the picture storybook significantly improves both reading comprehension and motivation, with greater gains observed in the experimental group compared to the control group. Gender-based analysis revealed notable differences, emphasizing the importance of considering gender in educational interventions. These findings suggest that integrating storybooks into the curriculum can support language development, emotional regulation, and memory skills, providing practical implications for educators. Future research should explore the long-term effects of storybooks on student learning across different contexts.

Abstract

This study reviews the learning of the Engineering Design Process (EDP) with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach that is operationalised. The review summarised and evaluated research articles published between 2014 and 2024, which specifically focus on the integration of EDP learning models with STEM approaches. This study uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework and follows the CRAAP Test, an evaluation tool used to assess the reliability, relevance, and credibility of the selected paper. After a rigorous search and selection process, 28 unique empirical studies were identified that explored the integration of EDP models with STEM approaches at various levels of education, from elementary school to college. The review revealed that there are only three topics that are suitable for integrating EDP learning models with STEM approaches in elementary schools. Limited research exists about the adaptability, obstacles, and support of STEM-based EDP implementation in primary schools, focusing mostly on identification rather than in-depth studies. In addition, various instruments can be leveraged to facilitate the integration of EDP-STEM learning models in primary education. This result found a gap for further research on STEM-based EDP in elementary schools as a trend of scientific contribution related to the use of STEM-based education in elementary schools.
