Abstract

Household plastic packaging waste, which we refer to as 'parasitic plastic' due to its perceived lack of usefulness for business, is generally disposed of by household members without processing. The quantity of this waste throughout Indonesia is very large and continues to increase, in line with household consumption growth. If this parasitic plastic waste continues to be left untreated, it will have long-term impacts on ecology and health; in the short term, it will affect cleanliness and the aesthetics of residential environments. The creation of incentive-based eco-bricks, by stuffing plastic packaging waste into 600 ml bottles weighing around 200 grams, and providing incentives of IDR 3,000 - 5,000 per bottle to participating communities. Additionally, the formation of organized ecobrick groups is a solution that can reduce daily plastic waste from households and decrease the scattered plastic waste that damages environmental aesthetics, cleanliness, and sustainability. Through participatory action methods, it was found that those involved in the creation of incentive-based eco-bricks tend to be predominantly women (housewives) and children from low-income families. Women involved in this activity (in terms of age) generally move slowly but consistently.

Abstract

The behavior of visitors littering in coastal tourist parks has resulted in the generation of plastic waste, which, in turn, poses a significant risk of polluting the ocean. This issue arises due to the absence of a deliberately constructed visitor littering control system by the park management. This paper explains that a visitor littering control system in tourist parks can be established by the management through participatory and persuasive approaches, without causing resistance from visitors. The method employed is through active engagement. Park managers and staff across all levels, particularly those who interact directly with visitors, are collaboratively involved in developing a shared understanding. This is achieved through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), which address the rationale behind encouraging visitors to manage their own waste, facilitated by a dedicated team. Through FGDs, complemented by educational materials on the environmental impact of plastic waste and the development of a Procedural Manual for establishing a visitor littering control system, along with continued support, the park management succeeded in creating an environment where staff systematically and collectively persuade visitors while providing waste bags (disposal points) to prevent littering. The results of this initiative demonstrate that the visitor littering control system in the Mangrove Tourism Park has begun to take shape, characterized by a shared commitment and awareness to tackle waste management issues, as well as an increased understanding among the park management of the environmental hazards posed by plastic waste.

Abstract

Mangrove batik artisans in Tanjung Rejo Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, face challenges in increasing their income, primarily due to limitations in production and business management. In production, artisans lack knowledge of design techniques, especially the shibori technique. On the management side, they are underutilizing digital marketing and lack adequate knowledge of computerized financial recording and management. To address these issues, a community partnership empowerment program (PKM) was implemented, aiming to improve the artisans' income through practical training. The training includes: (a) creating fabric patterns using the Shibori technique, (b) utilizing digital marketing, (c) managing business finances using Microsoft Excel, and (d) building a website. The results show significant improvements in digital marketing knowledge, online sales transactions, and the number of social media followers. This training has proven to be an effective solution, enabling mangrove batik artisans to leverage technology to enhance their income.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) collaborated with the Pincuran Ruyuang Farmers Group, which focuses on cacao cultivation and is located in Nagari Solok Bio-Bio, Harau District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The main issue in cacao farming production is phytophthora fruit rot, while the management problems include marketing and financial management of the cacao farm. This program's focus was to provide farmer group members with training to address these issues. Several activities were conducted, including community outreach, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training for cacao, marketing management training, fruit rot disease control, and liming and fertilization training. The training results showed an 85.48% increase in partners' understanding of GAP and an 83.33% increase in GAP application. Additionally, a reduction in fruit rot disease was observed during the PKM activities. Partners' understanding of marketing and financial management also improved by 85.50%. This increased knowledge is hoped to enable partners to implement better marketing strategies, leading to higher sales and profits.

Abstract

Sei Serdang Village, located in the Tangkahan Ecotourism area, is part of the Gunung Leuser National Park, a popular tourist destination. However, the Batang Serangan River, which runs through the village, poses a significant problem because its banks are filled with broken wood debris, creating a risk of flash floods. To address this, a program was initiated to train local souvenir and furniture craftsmen in Sei Serdang to manage the wood waste from the river. Through this waste management effort, production costs can be reduced, the river can be cleaned of wood debris, and the community's welfare can improve. The program employed a participatory approach, combining lectures, discussions, training, and monitoring. The stages included observation, wood waste design training, preservation, production, finishing, and final evaluation. Based on the evaluations, the craftsmen's understanding of wood waste management increased by 40%, business potential awareness by 10%, and river conservation awareness by 15%. Twenty out of forty participants successfully created innovative craft and furniture designs, while twenty-five participants utilized wood waste as production materials. Additionally, the use of wood waste led to production cost savings of up to 26.67% for souvenirs and 25% for more complex furniture items.

Abstract

The chili farming center in Lubuk Cuik Village, Batu Bara Regency, is the second largest after Karo Regency, with a total area of 1,092 hectares. The challenges faced by members of the Berkah Abadi Jaya Cooperative include declining soil fertility, low productivity, and high fertilizer costs, affecting farmers' profits. To address these issues, training on compost production and cooperative management was provided. Initially, members were trained to make compost from agricultural waste (leaves) and animal manure (KOHE). These materials were sprayed with Yanysis technology to accelerate the composting process. Participants were also trained to operate compost shredders to reduce leaf size. Solid organic fertilizer (POP), made from a mixture of leaf compost, KOHE, and humus soil, was applied to a chili plot and compared to chemical fertilizers. The results showed that cooperative members were able to independently produce POP. The composting time was reduced from 1-3 months to 2 weeks, while the plant height, number of leaves, and chili fruits were similar. Additionally, cooperative members gained a good understanding of cooperative business management, decision-making, and business diversification.

Abstract

Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) is an approach that integrates knowledge of technology, pedagogy, and content according to the learning context. Understanding, skills, and application of TPACK in learning by elementary school teachers are needed in today's digital technology era. The use of TPACK-based media and integrating it into the learning process allows learning materials to be packaged in an interesting, contextual and needed way for elementary school students. However, in reality, the understanding and skills of elementary school teachers are still low, and they have not utilized TPACK in learning. On that basis, a partnership network was built to assist in improving teachers' understanding and skills in developing TPACK-based animation media. The assistance activity involved the Teacher Working Group, which was carried out at SD Negeri 101774, Sampali Village. The assistance method was carried out through the stages of preparation, implementation, monitoring, and/or evaluation and follow-up. The results of the assistance showed an increase in teachers' understanding and skills about TPACK, increased utilization and application of TPACK in learning, and the creativity of teachers in developing TPACK-based animation media in the learning process.

Abstract

LGBT behavior is a form of sexual deviance. Deviant sexual behavior in adolescents is caused by the way teenagers socialize freely and tends to be limitless, caused by the sexual urges that are developing in adolescents. Education about faith so far seems to have not been able to produce a generation that is steadfast, strong, and has high dedication to their religion. The method of implementing direct counseling is the method used in this community service activity. Counseling is carried out by visiting the location and providing materials related to Education on Preventing LGBT Acts in the Full Boarding Religious School Environment of Maahad Ahmadi Negeri Sembilan (SABP MANS) Malaysia. The results of the service show that the emergence of the LGBT phenomenon in schools is caused by various factors, such as lack of affection from parents, watching on social media, bad company, and having been a victim. Among the roles that the school can play include, first, providing socialization about LGBT. However, preventing LGBT students will not produce maximum results if it only relies on the school. Support and supervision from parents and the government are also very much needed, such as parental supervision of student viewing.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to optimize the economic potential of marine catches in Brondong Village through product diversification assistance for micro-entrepreneurs which involves direct practice of processing mackerel fish into ready-to-eat food. Based on observations, it was found that even though the economic potential in this area is high, the community still uses traditional business patterns which results in low income for fishermen. The fundamental problem identified is the lack of processing of marine catches and product diversification. By using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method with a participatory approach to identify conditions, needs, problems and potential in village development. The results obtained from the pre-test assessment show that micro business actors' knowledge regarding product diversification is still low, with an average score of 65. However, after the training, there was a significant increase, where almost 90% of participants obtained a post-test score above 80 These results show that this mentoring activity has succeeded in increasing the knowledge and skills of micro business actors in diversifying seafood products, which is expected to increase fishermen's income and the welfare of the Brondong Village community.
