Abstract

One of the seven ethnic groups in Northern Island of Sumatra is Batak Karo and Simalungun. They have unique and exquisite ornamental cultural resources. However, these ornaments have not been created in many hand-drawn batik. This study aims to create a hand-drawn batik art work with dabbing techniques using Remasol Batik dyes and dyeing cap techniques using napthol batik dyes. Picture on Batak Karo and Simalungun ornament artifacts were obtained from reference books and direct observation. The forms of Batak Karo and Simalungun ornaments are created through a special method with structured stages starting from design preparation, incubation, execution, confirmation and validation of works. The visual process of creating works of art has resulted in ten works of batik art. Four works in the form of non-functional hand-drawn batik art and six batik artworks that have practical functions. The ten works of batik art show the combination of Karo and Simalungun ornaments. However, not all batik art works are the result of a combination. However, there are written batik art works that only depict Batak Karo ornaments and there are also hand-drawn batik artworks that only depict Simalungun Batak ornaments. The result of the   hand-drawn batik creation enefits in developing student entrepreneurship and can add to the repertoire of batik in Indonesia.

Abstract

Since its emergence, the term Indo-Pacific has received attention from various countries, including big countries such as the United States and China where the two countries are competing the race to spread influence and fulfill its interests in the region through military, economic, and other cooperation. Coupled with the emergence of India, this inevitably creates the potential for instability in the region and friction that can lead to conflict. As a country located right in the middle of the Indo-Pacific, Indonesia does not want the political dynamics in the Indo-Pacific to threaten their security and sustainability. Using a multilateralism approach through ASEAN, Indonesia seeks to encourage dialogue within the framework of ASEAN between Indo-Pacific countries based on the ASEAN Way of Viewing the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). This step is expected to create conditions in the Indo-Pacific region so that the geopolitical climate in the Indo-Pacific prioritizes cooperation over competition. In addition, Indonesia also wants to implement the World Maritime Axis agenda where Indonesia is able to become a mediating country in the region that puts forward a constructive approach in dealing with problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze access to the paradigm shift in the right to education during the pandemic for students from the perspective of human rights. This study uses a type of juridical-normative research. The primary legal sources used in this research are the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System, the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The types of legal sources used in this study are primary and secondary sources of law. Based on the analysis of legal sources, it can be concluded that the implementation of education is a right to education protected by the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and confirmed by the Human Rights Act. Understanding the right to education is more broadly understood as obtaining educational services in various forms/methods of online learning. Learning to use internet media also confirms that the right to education is closely related to the completion of the right to information following Articles 13, 14 and 15 of the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Abstract

Termination of employment in companies is usually done for various reasons, one of which is efficiency. Efficiency can be due to company closures or companies experiencing losses. By labour law in Indonesia, companies cannot terminate employment (PHK) without specific reasons for their employees. Layoffs must be based on solid and valid reasons, as stated in the Job Creation Law No. 11 of 2020, Chapter IV Manpower, and point 42 regarding the insertion of Article 154A into the Manpower Act No. 13 of 2003. This was forced to done by several companies due to reasons efficiency due to the impact of covid 19 that hit the world, including Indonesia and Kalimantan Eastin particular. The purpose of this study was to find out how and to what extent the terms of Labor Relations occurred in East Kalimantan Province, especially during the Covid 19 Pandemic. The data source was secondary data originating from various media that reviewed cases of layoffs that occurred in East Kalimantan and some information from related agencies, especially the East Kalimantan Provincial Manpower Office, published by several local media. This research is secondary data analysis using qualitative descriptive analysis.

Abstract

In 2021 Twitter is the fifth most popular social media in Indonesia. One of the uniqueness of twitter compared to other social media is the hashtag (# symbol) which is placed at the beginning of words or phrases typed on social networks. Hashtags will make it easier for Twitter users to find specific information. With this hashtag feature, many Twitter users are competing to make a hashtag trending or even competing to make their hashtag trending. There is a unique method used to increase a hashtag by using a 4 digit random hashtag at the end of the tweet. This phenomenon is often found in trending hashtags with the caliphate theme. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out related to the use of 4-digit random hashtags, it shows that the 4-digit hashtag code is one of the tools to generate tweets that are as unique as possible, both in terms of the account using, content, activity type, activity target, and media to raise hashtags on Twitter. This 4-digit hashtag code is suspected to be the activity of an account along with the content being played. Accounts that use the same code more than once are unlikely to have different content. Likewise, when the same account plays different content, it must be accompanied by a different code. This indicates the relationship between the account and the 4-digit hashtag, to the content being played. Recently, hashtags around the Caliphate that use random hashtags have switched to using 5-digit random hashtags. The intent and purpose of its use is still the same as using a 4-digit random hashtag.

Abstract

This work aims to investigate an Indonesian EFL student’s perceptions and experiences in repeatedly doing standardized English language proficiency test: TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). This standardized test has a significant role in the academic and professional lives of students (Anam, 2019); it contributes positively to students’ language proficiency and their future employment if they have higer and valid score in the test (Hsieh, 2017). This present study interviewed an Indonesian EFL student at a National University in Taiwan running an international program. The study participant passed the exam, but she did it repeatedly before she could pass it. This study used a qualitative phenomenological approach with an in-depth interview. The relevant findings illustrate that the participant reveals the reasons for failing the test: lack of self-awareness, lack of self-confidence, and the distance of the test venue from her dormitory. On the contrary, she passed the test by doing online simulation exam individually and modifying her study skills while preparing for the test. The failure process had a positive impact on her in making her to know her ability.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest logistics costs in ASEAN. In this regard, the government needs to take strategic steps. One of them is the issuance of Presidential Instruction Number 5 of 2020 which is then used as the legal basis for the establishment of a national logistics ecosystem digital platform or National Logistic Ecosystem (NLE). This policy is the responsibility of the General Directorate of Customs and Excise under the supervision of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance. The objective of this research was to analyze the implementation of the NLE program in terms of increasing the performance of the national logistics system, improving the investment climate, and increasing the competitiveness of the national economy in Indonesia. The research method used was qualitative with a descriptive approach. The results of this study indicated that of the six dimensions that were used as benchmarks, four dimensions had worked well. Only two dimensions were not going well. They were the dimension of implementers’ attitude and the dimension of communication. This was due to ongoing planning and policies that still needed to be disseminated more widely. By having the NLE platform, it would certainly increase the performance of the National logistics system, improve the investment climate, and increase the competitiveness of the National economy in Indonesia.
