Abstract

The Toba Batak ethnicity has a kinship system that becomes their cultural identity and way of life, known as Dalihan Na Tolu. Every Toba Batak needs to know two kinship systems in this philosophy: Tarombo Batak and Partuturan. After conducting research, it found that Toba Batak parents tend to teach Partuturan to their children as a basis they must know before exploring Dalihan Na Tolu. However, the Partuturan can be complicated for children to understand because it has many complex classifications. On the other hand, using verbal and observation to introduce this culture is also a problem that makes it more difficult for children to understand the Partuturan. This study aims analyze the method of introducing Partuturan using picture books and augmented reality. The methodology is mix-method in the form of interview data, literature study, and questionnaires in the form of open-ended questions. The implications of this study can be helpful for other researchers in understanding the design process of Partururan for Batak Toba children to foster a solid cultural identity using picture books based on augmented reality.

Abstract

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on various sectors. Likewise the advertising industry, the changes requires workers in the advertising sector to find solutions that can overcome all the limitation. One way that can be done is by implementing a visual communication strategy using materials that are not only efficient, but can also be done in a limited scope of locations, as did the Sasa brand through the animated advertisement. The analytical method used in the form of a semiotic method will begin with a discussion of the visual objects shown in the ad by paying attention to each design element used. Then the study will focus on the semiotic elements of the level of meaning which will be divided into two, namely connotative (implicit) meaning and denotative (explicit) meaning. The results of this study can be used as evaluation material and reference for visual communication strategies in designing an advertisement during a pandemic and after a pandemic, so that an animated product can be interpreted as an alternative advertising medium within the social limitations of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The industrial world is increasingly modern with the existence of the virtual metaverse world. This can be seen from the existence of the MSIB program on metaverse implemented by CIAS with the "Metaverse 3D World Creation + Commercialization" program and using Roblox as a medium in visualizing the metaverse. One of the objects of this research is Metayoliverse, one of the program's metaverse projects. The method used in this design is a qualitative method with a Metayoliverse case study approach, observation and SWOT analysis. The methodology in this study began with observing data from Metayoliverse and then proceeding with data analysis using SWOT. In this study, we will analyze the opportunities that can be used on Roblox to promote MSMEs. The results of this study will later show that Roblox has the opportunity to become a medium for promoting MSMEs.

Abstract

As a form of children's literature, animated films are reflective illustrations of real life whose consumers are segmented as children. However, children's literary production is often ambivalent. The reason is that children's literature must arouse the imagination (in order to fulfill the elements of literature) while depicting real life that represents facts (in order to fulfill the requirements for reflection and representation of life). If animation is used to retell past history, then the major premise narrated by the animation must be representative of actual events (valid in terms of the information source). This research seeks to achieve two things, namely: discussing the extent of historical distortion in the Pocahontas animation as literature, and revealing the audience's meaning of the message content in the Pocahontas animation. This research was carried out qualitatively using the structuralism semiotic analysis method introduced by Ferdinand de Saussure. The results of this research reveal that the historical reconstruction in the Pocahontas animation is indeed distorted. However, this deviation is still at a normal stage as children's literature. The Pocahontas animation does not qualify as a historical reconstruction. It only qualifies as children's literature intended for entertainment purposes. Moreover, there is the addition of the wrong romantic element. According to a semiotic analysis of audience perception, this distortion is not a serious problem for viewers in Indonesia (who incidentally do not know the historical events behind the character Pocahontas). Meanwhile, for Americans, especially native Americans, this distortion is an ethical problem that literary producers and critics need to pay attention to.
