Abstract

Stunting is a condition of chronic malnutrition that occurs from growth and development starting from the fetal period. Many children under five are stunted due to malnutrition, and many toddlers are often sick. This study aimed to determine the factors influencing the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This research was conducted in the Work Area of the Tarus Health Center, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency, and was carried out from May 2021. The research method used was an analytical survey using a case-control design. The samples taken were 66 children under five, namely 33 under five in the case group and 33 in the control group. Data analysis used the Chi-Square. The results showed that the variables related to the incidence of stunting were LBW history (p= 0.001, OR= 6.250, 95%CI= 2.131-18.330), history of infectious diseases (p= 0.000, OR= 8.543, 95%CI=2.796-26.104), and feeding patterns (p= 0.000, OR= 8.333, 95%CI= 2.760-25.157). Meanwhile, exclusive breastfeeding history and mother's knowledge level were not related to the incidence of stunting (p= 0.325, p= 0.453, consecutively). Parents should consider the diversity of consumption patterns in children under five to prevent stunting.

This type of research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 45 pregnant women with a total sampling technique. The data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test. The results showed that factors moreover influenced the nutritional status of pregnant women were the consumption pattern of pregnant women (p-value= 0,015), and personal hygiene (p-value= 0,023), while the factors that did not affect were income level (p-value= 0,931) and education level (p-value= 0,365). Lastly, pregnant women are expected to pay more attention to nutritional status and consumption patterns by consuming balanced nutritious foods and maintaining personal hygiene during pregnancy to prevent the occurrence of malnutrition status in mother's pregnancy.

Abstract

A clean and Healthy Lifestyle is one of the effective ways to prevent and control the risk of transmission among fishers. However, poor implementation of clean and healthy living behavior is still found in Fish Auction Places, especially on fishing boats. This study aims to describe the behavior of clean and healthy living on fishers in the Oeba Fish Auction Place. The indicators of clean and healthy living behavior include smoking behavior, using clean water, washing hands using soap before eating and after defecating, using latrines, and using personal protective equipment. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with five informants consisting of two ship owners and three crew members. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interviews and observations around the fish auction vessel. The results showed that of the five indicators, one indicator had been implemented well by fishermen, namely the behavior of using clean water. The lack of support from stakeholders and awareness of fishers has worsened the implementation of clean and healthy behavior at the Oeba Fish Auction Place. So, the implementation of clean and healthy living behavior at the Fish Auction Place had not been implemented optimally on all indicators. Therefore, education about the importance of maintaining health and the risk of disease transmission in the surrounding environment and the provision of supporting factors such as facilities and infrastructure is indispensable for implementing clean and healthy living to achieve a healthy degree.
