Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of English skills of Mathematics Education students and identify solutions that can improve them. The research method used was qualitative by involving prospective mathematics teacher students from one of the universities in the city of Madiun. Data collection instruments include questionnaires, interviews, and TOEFL tests. The results showed that factors such as previous educational background, learning motivation, exposure to English, and learning methods affected students' English skills. Lack of motivation to learn English and inadequate level of English skills are the main obstacles faced by students. Few students reach the adequate TOEFL test threshold. Limitations of this study include limited samples, data collection methods that can create bias, the specific context of Mathematics Education, time constraints, and other possible factors that are not taken into account. Awareness of these limitations is important in interpreting research results and formulating appropriate recommendations to improve the English skills of Mathematics Education students

Abstract

In this paper, we aim to derive the explicit forms of forward and backward difference formulas based on the Taylor series. These formulas are employed to approximate the N-th derivative of a single-variable function with N-th order accuracy. The explicit formula is determined by utilizing the properties of the determinant of the Vandermonde matrix. Subsequently, we apply the obtained formulas to an example case involving a first-order ordinary differential equation

Abstract

Mathematical proof is a crucial component in studying mathematics, especially at advanced levels. Previous research has reported that many students face difficulties in solving mathematical proof problems, including in rings theory course. This study aims to determine the level of students' mathematical proof abilities in ring theory course and to compare these abilities based on their school backgrounds. This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach followed by comparative analysis. The subjects were 30 students from the mathematics education program taking rings theory course at Tidar University. The research instruments include tests, questionnaire, and interviews guidelines. Data analysis of the test results was conducted using descriptive statistic and one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD post hoc tests. The research findings indicate that students' overall mathematical proof abilities fall into the low category, with an average score of 41.67 (on a scale of 100). From these results, 84% of the respondents are in the low category, 13% in the medium category, and 3% in the high category. Furthermore, when considering the backgrounds of secondary schools MA, SMK, and SMA, the average scores for mathematical proof abilities in all three groups are in the low category. The one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post hoc tests reveal a significant difference in mathematical proof abilities between the MA and SMA groups, while there was no significant difference between the MA and SMK groups or the SMK and SMA groups

Abstract

Numeracy is an essential skill that must be possessed to be successful in the 21st century. Numeration contains complex problems that link mathematics to everyday life. It is necessary to know the numeracy abilities of prospective elementary school teacher students as an initial effort to develop the numeracy abilities of future elementary school teachers. Apart from that, knowing what errors arise in solving numeracy questions is necessary to know what actions to use to develop the numeracy of prospective elementary school teachers. One theory that can be used to see student errors in solving numeracy questions is based on Newman's Errors Analysis (NEA). This research used a qualitative approach involving 154 students, of which 124 experienced errors. The research results showed that there were student errors in Reading Errors (R) at 9.68%, Comprehension Errors (C) at 27.42%, Transformation Errors (T) at 22.58%, Process Skills Errors (P) at 35, 48%, and Encoding Errors (E) of 4.84%. These errors are caused by students not being able to understand the basic concept of fractions, incorrect conceptual understanding regarding the concept of fractions, and students not understanding how to write fraction symbols and what two fractions have in common

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and describe the mathematical communication abilities of high school students of the Xth grade based on Peirce's semiotic perspectives. The research method used in this research is descriptive. Sampling techniques using purposive sampling. The instrument for gathering data on this research is a test of mathematical communication skills. All the MIPA 1 class X students were identified through their communication skills tests, and then three students represented the highest category. Tests were carried out on trigonometric derivatives. Further analysis of the entire data is carried out with the following steps: data reduction stage, data presentation stage, and conclusion. The results of the study showed that these high-level students could associate representations seen, make complex mathematical expressions, describe various representations of symbols or images made by students when dealing with mathematics problems, explain clearly and in-depth the mathematic processes they perform, represent a concept (objects) verbally or visually, and associate their representations with relevant concepts or material. In addition, the three students solved mathematical communication problems through the stages of representamen, object, and interpretant

Abstract

The stages of a good production process begin with carrying out production planning and forecasting. This stage is carried out to reduce the impact of uncertainty in the future. There are many methods that can be used in forecasting, but there are often obstacles to the lack of data owned to do forecasting. Gray system theory is one of the theories developed to reduce the problem of lack data owned. This research tries to forecast the needs of PT X using the grey method. Based on the results of forecasting using the Grey Method, the method can produce forecasting with a good level of accuracy and is on the criteria of "Qualified" or good enough with an error ratio value of C of 0.36

Abstract

The territory of Indonesia is located in a strategic position in the tropics. Indonesia is in a position where the equator passes, making it vulnerable to changes in weather and climate. Big cities are increasingly facing many global challenges, so that the effects of climate change are causing urban areas to become more vulnerable to disasters. The city of Medan is one of the big cities that has been recognized as having different characteristics from the surrounding climate, which still has quite a lot of natural elements. Various community activities in Medan City can change the composition of the atmosphere which causes changes in the characteristics of the microclimate which will affect the weather and climate. Weather and climate have a dynamic relationship with other weather elements such as air humidity, air temperature and rainfall. Weather and climate patterns often do not match the pattern they should and are difficult to predict. The main elements of weather are temperature and rainfall, knowing the temperature and rainfall of an area can be used as material to describe the weather in that area. In expressing rainfall in an area, the relationship between air humidity, air temperature and wind direction and speed is very influential. Knowing the pattern of rainfall is very important to do in several activities. So that a diagnostic analysis of weather variables is needed to estimate rainfall patterns in the city of Medan using the bayesian vector autoregressive (BVAR) model. The estimation results using the Bayesian Vector Autoregressive (BVAR) model for Medan City found that the highest rainfall occurred in September at 571.87 mm and the lowest occurred in January at 54.59 mm with a method accuracy rate of 4.75% which indicates that the use of the BVAR method in estimation is very accurate

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether there is an influence between entrepreneurship on student achievement, in this case student learning achievement and to find out how to analyze it. The population in this study were all Tribuana Kalabahi University students, totaling 3,101 students. In this research, 153 students were taken randomly (when the students met, the researchers immediately asked questions) at Tribuana Kalabahi University. The method used in this research is an interview, namely randomly interviewing students at Tribuana Kalabahi University. Then the data obtained from the interview results was processed through the SPSS program application with a simple linear regression statistical analysis tool. Judging from the significance value or p-value of 0.008, which is smaller than alpha 0.1, it can be concluded that entrepreneurship has a significant effect on student learning achievement. The regression equation model is Y=3.518-0.093x, because the coefficient value is minus (-) meaning that entrepreneurship (X) has a negative effect on the student's Learning Achievement Index (Y). Which means that if x has a value of 0 or is said to be non-entrepreneurial then the student's cumulative achievement index is 3.518. Meanwhile, if x has a value of 1 or is said to be entrepreneurial, the student's cumulative achievement index will decrease by 0.093. So it can be said that if students have entrepreneurship while studying, the cumulative achievement index will decrease. From the results of the coefficient of determination test, it was found that the independent variable number, namely entrepreneurship, was 4.5%, which could explain/explain the dependent variable, namely achievement, or in other words, entrepreneurship influenced student achievement by 4.5%, while the remaining 95.5% was explained/explained by other factors. which was not researched
