Abstract

Every musical instrument that is taken at the college "demands" students to be mastery learning, in both theoretical and practical aspects, as well as possible. However, in the process, there are obstacles that often arise. As in learning the Piano Major course. Based on observations in class, students are constrained in terms of primavista. With the character of the piano score that is consisting of two staves, students are constrained to coordinate their cognitive processing when reading piano scores, with the application of their ten fingers when playing the piano. This study discusses the primavistalearning of piano with the drill method. The type of research conducted was qualitative research, which was conducted in Music Arts Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya.Based on the results, there was a significant improvement in the students' ability to apply the music notation they had read primavistly. In the pre-test session, most of the students' scores were below 40%. However, when the post-test session was conducted, the results of the work shown were very satisfactory. All students were able to achieve scores above 70%. Based on these results, it can be stated that the drill method has succeeded in optimizing the development of primavistaabilities of piano students. It is hoped that this method can be used routinely in piano classes so that students' primavistaabilities can be further honed.

Abstract

Teenager are increasingly confronted with emotional issues, demanding a solution such as adolescent emotional intelligence development. Traditional Indonesian music, notably Javanese gamelan, can help teenager develop emotional intelligence. People who follow a set of rules and limits undertake Javanese gamelan exercises. When practicing gamelan, the individual must hit his gamelan tool and listen to the gamelan played by his colleagues in the gamelan group to generate a harmonic gamelan sound. This study used quantitative approaches in conjunction with a sample size of 135 UWK Surabaya students. The Java Gamelan Music Exercise Intensity Scale (r = 0.848) and the Emotional Intelligence Scale (r = 0.772) are used as data-gathering instruments in the sampling technique. The product-moment correlation method was used to analyze the data, and the result was 0.550. The study's findings revealed a link between the severity of Javanese gamelan music training and emotional intelligence, with the higher the intensity of Javanese gamelan music training, the higher the emotional intelligence. The intensity variable of Javanese gamelan music training can contribute 30.25 percent to the emotional intelligence variable. In contrast, the remaining 69.75 percent is influenced by elements other than the intensity variable of Javanese gamelan music training. Beyond the intensity variables of Javanese gamelan music training, the family, non-family, physical, and psychological environments all have a role.

Abstract

This article seeks to investigate various literatures that address the issue of music research methodology, discussed in the case of Indonesia. The main background in writing is a lack of sources on music research methods. Especially in the digital age, when there is an abundance of data. A separate investigation is required into the procedures for conducting research, managing data, and understanding the research methods to be used. This article is a review of the literature that employs the exposition method to present general and specific concepts from previous research. The sources used include the outcomes of debates about art and music research. Music research concepts are discussed and reviewed in reference materials, resulting in a new understanding of the subject. The aim is to expand conceptual ideas about music research paradigms and their relevance in the digital age. The principles of art and music research methodology are addressed. Following that, we'll talk about how to design music research in the digital age. The result suggest, the rapid technological advancements are forcing music researchers to revise how data is collected and validated. Data from the internet is no longer used as a complement, but rather as the primary source of capital for digital-based music research design. The components of research in a coherent and logistical way to find answers to research problems are the focus of music research design in the digital age. Make use of relevant apps and websites, as well as big data.

Abstract

The complex task in musical performance, sometimes makes musicians get an unsatisfactory evaluation. On the other hand, the structural approach to music itself which is believed to be a fundamental tool for musical interpretation has not clear yet how its capacities could become the basis for translating written notes into musical sounds. On the other hand, music is experienced not exclusively as a mere structure and sound event but also experienced as subjective events. This study, therefore, explores the role of musician's subjective experiences, particularly emotions, in shaping musical interpretations. This study uses a qualitative method with a comparative approach. This approach is used to investigates how emotions can mediate the transformation of written notes into musical sounds. A comparison of two cases of interpretation on the cellist and on the guitar player is held in order to explain if there are differences in the interpretation process of the two groups of musicians. The result of this study shows that: (1) Emotional experience gained in the socialization of everyday emotions plays an important role in understanding music (2) After musicians can apprehend the emotions contained in the musical structure, they can manifest them into an acoustic code that has an iconic relationship with the emotional content of the musical structure (3) Emotional experience posits as the basis for translating structural information into meaningful sound.

Abstract

Dance performances are art communication between dancers and their audience. The regional art unique characteristics are local cultural wealth form. One of the Malang regency traditional dance is the Gunungsari Mask dance. The dancer response to accompaniment gending can be analyzed from the psychoacoustic aspect. This study aims to analyze the psychoacoustic of the Gunungsari gending. Sound analysis was performed using Wave Surfer to obtain temporal and spectral signals. The WavePad application is used to get the FFT for spectral and TFT for temporal. Furthermore, Audacity is used to numerize the voice signal. Each sample was taken as 100 data from the graph per minute. The numerical results were processed using Microsoft Excel to obtain the graph trend line equation. The results showed that the Gunungsari gending had polynomial patterns for spectral and temporal. The temporal pattern corresponds to 6 degree polynomial regression while the spectral is of 3-4 degree. Thus, Gending Gunungsari has Angka Gending (as cited reference) that are in accordance and can be used as therapeutic gending.

Abstract

This research departs from the difficulty of players in connecting how musical works can inform movements to players, he said on classical guitarist instruments. So it requires a strategy to answer the challenges in the music performance area. So this study requires several processes to connect this, one of which is the positive analysis that will be discussed in this research. The discussion material is limited to romantic to modern music as a golden era of classical guitar, one of which is the work of Manuel Maria Ponce's "Sonata Romantica I. Allegro Moderato". The content of this study is in the form of a study of elements of music elements including; harmonic studies, forms, rhythms and motifs, as well as looking at the results of other players in interpreting the work.  While the results of this study show that there are many fluctuations in the two regions of the graph representing dynamic and tempo, it is from these fluctuations that musicians get the potential to use gesture expressions.
