Abstract

This study examines the role of security officers in preventing violence at the Sukadana Class IIB State Detention Center. The overcrowding of inmates at the Sukadana Detention Center poses a higher security risk, including violence among inmates. The study aims to identify the role of security officers in preventing violence and to reveal the challenges they face in carrying out their duties. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews with correctional officers, and relevant documentation. Role theory by Biddle and Thomas was used as a framework to analyze expectations, norms, performance, and evaluations of the officers' role in maintaining security. The findings show that officers play a central role in preventing violence, although they face several challenges, such as the limited number of personnel, which is insufficient compared to the number of inmates. Preventive measures include regular patrols, monitoring inmate interactions, and supervising items brought by visitors. In conclusion, security effectiveness needs to be improved by increasing personnel and enhancing the facilities at the detention center. Abstract

The social structure, formed from both formal and informal interactions between inmates and officers, plays a crucial role in maintaining stability within prison environments. This article aims to analyze the existing social structure in Lapas (Correctional Facility) Class IIA Mataram and its influence on security and order within the facility. Using a qualitative approach, the study maps out the factors that shape the social hierarchy in the prison and how these social dynamics can be utilized to improve security conditions. The findings reveal that alongside formal regulations, unwritten social norms also significantly influence order within the prison. The combination of strict formal rules and the individual agency of inmates contributes to the reproduction of the existing social structure. Abstract

Security guards play an important role in maintaining stability and security in correctional institutions and detention centers. Therefore, the balance between work and personal life (work-life balance) is a key factor that can affect their performance and well-being. This research focuses on comparing the level of work-life balance of security squad officers at the Class IIA Serang Correctional Institution and the Class IIB Serang State Detention Center. The formulation of the problem in this study is whether there is a significant difference in the level of work-life balance between officers in the two institutions. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey approach, involving 72 respondents consisting of 36 officers in each institution. The data collection technique was conducted through a questionnaire with indicators measured based on the three main dimensions of work-life balance: time balance, involvement balance, and satisfaction balance. Data were analyzed using a normality test and t-test to see the difference between the two groups of respondents. The results showed a significant difference in the level of work-life balance between officers at Class IIA Serang Correctional Facility and Class IIB Serang Detention Center, with officers at the correctional facility showing higher scores. This improvement is due to factors such as the work environment, supporting facilities, and better management policies in correctional facilities. The conclusion of this study shows that work-life balance has a major influence on officers' well-being and performance, and there are significant differences between the two institutions. Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of educational programs for juvenile inmates (Andikpas) at the Class II Special Child Development Institute (LPKA) in Bandar Lampung. The educational program at LPKA includes both formal and non-formal education designed to meet the educational rights of children in conflict with the law (ABH). The method used is descriptive qualitative research, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results indicate that the participation rate of Andikpas in educational programs is still low, with less than 15% of children attending formal education. The Special Child Correctional Institution (LPKA) plays a crucial role in providing education to children involved in the criminal justice system. The educational programs at LPKA are specifically designed to meet the educational needs and developmental requirements of children of varying ages and levels of need. The main objective is to help these children acquire the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary for self-improvement and building a better future. Overall, education at LPKA aims not only to provide knowledge and skills but also to help children understand and address the problems they may face, preparing them to reintegrate into society as better and more productive members. The main challenges include a lack of qualified educators, inadequate educational facilities, and low motivation among Andikpas. This research suggests the need for improvements in educational facilities, the provision of qualified teaching staff, and increased support from families and communities to enhance the effectiveness of the educational programs.
