Abstract

Hair is an essential part of the body that often experiences various problems, one of which is hair loss. Fortunately, hair loss problems can be prevented by applying a hair tonic. Many hair tonic preparations are on the market, both made from herbal and synthetic ingredients. Efforts have been made to formulate cucumber into hair tonics. This study aims to utilize herbal plants, particularly cucumber, as a remedy for hair loss. Cucumber was developed into several hair tonic formulations, and their physical stability was subsequently tested. The cucumber was extracted using the infusion method. The yielded infusion was later made into three formulas of hair tonics with three times replications for each procedure. Following the formulations, physical stability tests of the preparations were carried out, such as organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, and viscosity tests. Results of the tests showed that the trials were physically stable with a homogenous physical appearance indicating an even distribution of cucumber extract in the preparations. Further results showed average pH of 5.87, 6.12, and 6.49 with viscosity values of 0.0082, 0.0083, and 0.0085 N.S/m2, respectively. In conclusion, all the ingredients in the formulation of herbal hair tonics provided stable color and pH range that still met the requirements. Hence, this study suggested the administration of cucumber hair tonic as one of many remedies for hair ailments, specifically hair loss.

Abstract

Pharmaceutical services at the public health center play an important role in the implementation of efforts to improve public health, one of which is the provision of drug information services to support drug use with the aim of successful treatment. The objective of this study was to assess outpatient drug information services at the Kartasura Health Center. This type of research is a descriptive observational research that is quantitative in nature using a questionnaire sheet of 96 respondents. Kartasura Public Health Center related to the provision of drug information to outpatients has been carried out, but there is still drug information that has not been conveyed by pharmacists or 0% is not conveyed, namely stability and contraindications. The drug information points that were transmitted to the specific drug are the drug name at 100%, the dosage form at 100%, the drug dose at 100%, the method of use at 98.96%, and the indications at 97.92%. The drug information points that were submitted, but only for some drugs, were storage rules at 86%, side effects at 57%, and interactions at 19%.

Abstract

Tumor merupakan penyakit yang ditandai dengan adanya pembelahan sel yang tidak terkendali. Saat ini, terapi pembedahan dan radioterapi adalah pengobatan tumor yang paling efektif, tetapi tidak efisien ketika sel tumor telah menyebar ke seluruh tubuh (metastasis). Kemoterapi merupakan terapi pilihan untuk sel tumor yang bermetastasis, namun kemoterapi memiliki kelemahan karena tidak hanya mempengaruhi sel tumor, tetapi juga sel sehat yang membelah dengan cepat. Kelapa (Cocos nucifera) merupakan komoditas perkebunan yang potensial karena hampir semua bagian tanamannya dapat dimanfaatkan, tak terkecuali daun kelapa. Namun belum banyak penelitian yang melihat kebermanfaatannya dalam kesehatan. Penelitian ini diawali dengan skrining fitokimia ekstrak etanol daun kelapa. Uji toksisitas dilakukan dengan metode BSLT menggunakan 750 ekor larva Artemia salina yang terbagi dalam 6 kelompok (5 kelompok perlakuan dan 1 kelompok kontrol negatif), dengan konsentrasi ekstrak masing-masing kelompok perlakuan 1000, 500, 250, 125, dan 50 ppm, selanjutnya persen mortalitas larva Artemia salina dihitung setelah 24 jam paparan. Skrining fitokimia ekstrak etanol daun kelapa menunjukkan hasil positif adanya senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, fenol, dan triterpenoid. Hasil uji toksisitas menunjukkan ekstrak etanol daun kelapa konsentrasi 1000, 500, 250, 125, dan 50 ppm mengakibatkan kematian pada larva Artemia salina. Persen mortalitas tertinggi ditemukan pada konsentrasi ekstrak 1000 ppm (41,33%). Nilai LC50 yang didapatkan sebesar 1621,05 ppm menunjukkan ekstrak etanol daun kelapa tidak cukup toksik untuk berpotensi sebagai kandidat antitumor dan antikanker.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest countries for medicinal plants in the world, various types of plants in Indonesia are used in generations. parts that are often used are roots, wood, leaves, fruit and seeds in fever medicine plants, there is an increase in body temperature that is directly related to the lithogenic sitokin level used to overcome various stimuli. antipyretic drugs are drugs used to overcome fever. The purpose of this article is made to find out which medicinal plants can be used as fever reducers. The method used is literature searches from national and international journals. From the results obtained by papaya plants (Carica papaya L.), turmeric (Curcuma longa Linn.), pepper (Piper nigrum L.), pare (Momocardica charantia), and starfruit (Averrhoa blimbi L.) has an active compound that can play an antipyretic drug

Abstract

Hipertensi merupakan peningkatan tekanan darah yang tidak normal, baik itu tekanan darah sistolik (TDS) maupun tekanan darah diastolik (TDD) yang menjadi salah satu penyebab kematian terbanyak di dunia. Pasien dapat dikatakan menderita hipertensi apabila memiliki tekanan darah sistolik/diastolik lebih dari 140/90 mmHg. Tanaman tradisional memiliki berbagai kandungan kimia yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai pengobatan alternatif untuk menurunkan tekanan darah. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui beberapa tanaman tradisional yang mamp dimanfaatkan untuk menurunkan tekanan darah. Artikel ini disusun dengan mencari data acuan dalam beberapa jurnal yang tersedia pada situs internet. Beberapa tanaman yang ditemukan memiliki aktivitas sebagai agen antihipertensi adalah Apium graveolens, Persea americana, Morinda citrifolia, Mangifera indica, dan Averrhoa bilimbi.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with high sun exposure and the potential for high sun exposure. These rays are UVA (290-320) and UVB (320-400) rays which have both good and bad effects on humans. The formation of Vitamin D and provitamin D is a benefit, but with severe ozone depletion the UV rays produced can be harmful to human health and can cause cancer. Sunscreen which is used to protect the health of human skin from the negative effects of solar radiation and can absorb light exposure is often used in daily life as a cosmetic whose effectiveness in light absorption is based on the value of the sun protection factor (SPF), hereby to determine the value and category SPF value on sunscreen products with UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method to find out its effectiveness. By using the sampling method of Non Probability Sampling. In the determination, mixing 3 samples of sunscreen, the determination of this SPF value is a measure of the protection of sunscreen cream preparations against Ultraviolet rays. The higher the SPF value, the greater the protective effect against sunburn. The results obtained deviation of 1.04 with an average SPF in this study was 4.1 which was included in the SPF category with minimal protection.

Abstract

One type of spice whose utilization is still very limited is andaliman (Zanthoxylum sp), the Rutaceae tribe which is a typical Batak cooking spice. This study uses a systematic review method. The data used in this study are from research results that have been published in national and international journals. The results of a search for journal publications related to Andaliman Antibacterial Activity (Zanthoxylum sp) for the first phase of the 2012-2022 publication period obtained 34 domestic and foreign journal publications. After conducting a review based on the criteria, 14 journals were selected, 6 Indonesian language journals and 8 English language journals. 24 journals were excluded because they did not meet the criteria. The disc diffusion method is the most widely used method. S aureus and E.coli most dominant of data on Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) related to the antibacterial effect of andaliman (Zanthoxylum sp).

Abstract

Self medication is an effort to carry out treatment independently. The implementation of self medication must be based on knowledge about self medication itself, one of which is regarding the use of over the counter and limited over the counter drugs. Students majoring in health as potential to be health workers must have a good level of understanding regarding the use of over the counter and limited over the counter drugs in order to provide education to the general public so it can reduce the risk o medication error. The study was conducted using a cross sectional method by collecting primary data from the result of a questionnaire which was then filled out by 78 respondents who were the students majoring in health at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The research instrument used was tested for its validity and realibility using the SPSS version 16.0 program. From the validity and reliability tests, 10 questions were valid and the insrument used were reliable. Based on the research conducted, it was found that students majoring in health at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta have a sufficient level of understanding regarding to the use of over the counter and limited over the counter drugs for self medication with an average score of 68,08.

Abstract

Lime peel and coffee grounds are good natural ingredients and have the potential to be used as cosmetic preparations, one of which is used to make body lulur preparations because lime peel contains vitamin C which can absorbs oil from the skin and removes dead skin cells so that the skin looks cleaner, softer and brighter, while the brewed coffee grounds have antioxidant activity, which contains 3.88% of antioxidants and 1-1.5% of caffeine contained in coffee grounds. This study aims to determine which lime peel and coffee grounds can lighten the skin in 2 weeks and to find out which formulation is the best. The lulur acceptability test includes a softness test, iritation test, ease of cleaning and skin brightness. then the lulur was tested for acceptability during week 0 to week 2. Based on the graph, formulation I with a concentration of 5%:10%, formulation II with a concentration of 10%:5% and formulation III with a concentration of 10%:10% are significant formulas for brightening the skin of some respondents. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of skin tone on the use of body lulur preparations at room temperature during week 0 to week 2.

Abstract

Effect of Ethanol Extract of Bay Leaf (Syzygium polyanthum Wight.) Against Blood Glucose Levels In Alloxan Induced White Mice. Thesis, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Deli Husada Deli Tua Health Institute. (Supervised by: apt. Linta Meliala, S.Si.,M.Si.) Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder which is characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels. Obesity and overweight are risk factors for type 2 diabetes (WHO, 2019). One of the non-pharmacological drugs that can be used for diabetes mellitus is bay leaf. Bay leaves (Eugenia polyantha) are spread in various areas, both in the mountains and in the lowlands. To determine the antidiabetic activity of the ethanolic extract of bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum Wight.) in alloxan-induced mice compared with glibenclamide.Experimental study using 25 mice induced with alloxan and divided into 5 groups. Group 1 (negative control) CMC Na 0.5%, group 2 (positive control) Glibenclamide dose 0.0026 mg/kgBW, group 3 bay leaf extract at 250 mg/kgBW, group 4 bay leaf extract at 500 mg/kgBW, group 5 bay leaf extract dose of 750 mg/kgBW. Extraction using maceration method with 96% ethanol as solvent. From the results of the study, each treatment group experienced a decrease in blood glucose levels. Of the 5 treatment groups, the best reduction in blood glucose levels was glibenclamide. The positive control of glibenclamide produced a faster reduction effect than the ethanolic extract of bay leaf. The greatest effectiveness in the ethanol extract of bay leaf 750 mg/kgBW with a faster decrease in blood glucose levels was almost equivalent to the positive control.
