Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parenting patterns of Ambonese Christian parents, with a particular focus on the interaction between local culture and Christian faith. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving Ambonese Christian parents with school-age children. The findings reveal that Ambonese parenting is shaped by the cultural principle of pela gandong, which emphasizes solidarity, togetherness, and respect, as well as Christian values of love, discipline, and forgiveness. The integration of culture and faith results in a distinctive collective parenting model, where child-rearing is not only the responsibility of the nuclear family but also of the wider community and the church. The study also shows that faith practices—such as family prayer, Bible reading, and children’s involvement in church activities—play a significant role in shaping children’s spiritual identity. However, Ambonese Christian parenting faces modern challenges stemming from globalization, urbanization, and the influence of digital technology, which risk undermining traditional values. The relevance of this parenting model in the modern era lies in parents’ ability to adapt traditional practices to contemporary contexts through open communication, technology guidance, and collaboration with schools and churches. This study contributes to the literature on Christian family education in Indonesia by presenting a contextual parenting model rooted in both culture and faith.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Christian values through Scout activities and its influence on students’ emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the research involved junior high school students who actively participated in Scout programs embedded with Christian teachings. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires measuring the levels of value integration, emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills), and prosocial behavior (helping, caring, and cooperation). The findings reveal that the integration of Christian values in Scout activities positively correlates with students’ emotional intelligence. Students who consistently engaged in value-based Scout practices demonstrated higher scores in emotional regulation and empathy. Furthermore, emotional intelligence was identified as a mediating factor that strengthened the relationship between value integration and prosocial behavior. Students with higher emotional intelligence exhibited greater willingness to help peers, cooperate in group tasks, and participate in community services. These results highlight the importance of integrating spiritual-ethical values in extracurricular activities as a holistic approach to character formation. Scout activities not only enhance technical and leadership skills but also foster emotional growth and moral motivation, enabling students to act prosocially as an expression of faith and service to others.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Christian Religious Education (PAK) teachers as character architects through their personal competence and its impact on students’ learning success. The research employed a constructive qualitative approach, collecting data through classroom observations, field notes, and document analysis, including lesson plans, students’ development records, and academic results. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, comprising data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Findings reveal that PAK teachers with well-developed personal competence, characterized by emotional stability, integrity, exemplary conduct, and the ability to build positive relationships, were able to create a safe and inclusive learning climate. Such conditions fostered students’ motivation, discipline, and active engagement in learning. Moreover, PAK teachers who served as role models played a vital role in shaping students’ Christian character, evident in their attitudes of respect, responsibility, and honesty. These positive influences also contributed to improved academic achievement. The study highlights that the success of Christian Religious Education depends not only on teachers’ mastery of subject content and pedagogical strategies but also on their personal character. Therefore, strengthening teachers’ personal competence should be an integral component of professional development in Christian education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of students’ self-regulated learning and the teaching style of Christian Education (PAK) teachers on the academic achievement of junior high school students. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The research sample consisted of 120 students in grades VIII and IX, selected using proportional random sampling. Data on self-regulated learning and teaching style were collected through validated and reliable questionnaires, while students’ academic achievement was obtained from official semester report scores. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that both independent variables had a positive and significant effect on academic achievement (R² = 0.298; p < 0.001), with teaching style contributing slightly more than self-regulated learning. These findings highlight the importance of synergy between students’ learning autonomy and the pedagogical quality of Christian Education teachers in enhancing academic outcomes and supporting the internalization of Christian values.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of personality in shaping transformational leadership character among young leaders. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving young leaders aged 18–30 engaged in youth organizations. Thematic analysis revealed that extraversion, openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness support transformational behaviors such as inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration, while neuroticism hinders the consistency of such behaviors. The findings highlight the importance of considering dispositional factors in developing transformational leadership to ensure long-term character formation rather than short-term behavioral change. The emerging adulthood phase is identified as a strategic period for interventions in values, character, and readiness to face socio-digital challenges. These insights imply the need for personality-based leadership development strategies that integrate self-regulation and digital literacy for young leaders

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between personality types and the development of moral character among adolescents using a qualitative constructivist approach. Data were collected through literature review and reflective analysis of school documents, then analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that conscientiousness and agreeableness traits positively support the development of moral character such as honesty, responsibility, and empathy, whereas neuroticism tends to hinder moral consistency. Traits of extraversion and openness to experience contribute uniquely by enhancing prosocial behavior and fostering acceptance of broader moral values. The study highlights that the development of adolescents’ moral character results from the interaction between internal factors (personality) and external factors (family, school, and cultural environment). It recommends that character education programs in both schools and families consider personality differences to improve the effectiveness of moral value internalization among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of extrovert and introvert personality types on the development of students’ social character in a junior high school in Banyuwangi Regency, Indonesia. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis for data collection. The findings reveal that extroverted students tend to develop their social character through collaborative activities, leadership roles, and public interactions, while introverted students progress through reflective activities, personal mentoring, and participation in small groups. The process of social character formation in the school is influenced by the interaction among students’ personality traits, school culture, and teachers’ guidance strategies. These findings highlight the importance of applying a fit-to-trait approach tailored to students’ personality characteristics to enhance the effectiveness of social character development programs.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the forms of adversity, adaptation strategies, and the role of teachers in Christian Religious Education for elementary school students during the COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that students encountered various types of adversity, including limited access to learning devices and internet connectivity, difficulties adapting to online learning, psychosocial challenges, and the loss of spiritual experiences typically gained in the classroom. Nevertheless, some students demonstrated resilience supported by family involvement, personal creativity, and teachers who acted as both academic facilitators and spiritual mentors. The study highlights the crucial role of Christian Education teachers in designing creative, interactive, and contextual learning while providing emotional and spiritual support to students. It recommends strengthening teachers’ capacity in digital literacy, online pedagogy, and psychosocial support to ensure that Christian Religious Education remains meaningful and relevant during crisis situations.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an Integrated Character Development Design through a constructive library research approach by analyzing theoretical literature, national education policies, and empirical studies on character education practices in schools. The findings indicate that character education in Indonesia is strongly supported by the Character Education Strengthening (PPK) policy and the 2013 Curriculum; however, its implementation still faces challenges in integrating character values across all subjects, limited teacher competence, and difficulties in assessing students’ attitudes. The proposed model consists of three key components: (1) planning, by integrating character values into the curriculum and teaching plans; (2) implementation, emphasizing teachers’ role as role models, habituation, and reinforcement through co-curricular and extracurricular activities; and (3) evaluation, focusing on continuous assessment of students’ behavior and the overall school culture. This model is expected to serve as an adaptive guide for schools to integrate character education comprehensively and contextually.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers as mentors for bullying victims in schools through a qualitative approach using library research. The literature review reveals that bullying is a social and educational issue with significant impacts on the psychosocial development of victims. CRE teachers play a strategic role as mentors who integrate Christian values such as love, forgiveness, and self-identity affirmation to support victims’ recovery. The proposed mentoring model combines pedagogical, psychological, and spiritual approaches while involving support from the school and faith communities. The findings emphasize the importance of CRE teachers as mentors in fostering inclusive school environments and building resilience among bullying victims.
