Abstract

Background: Febrile seizures are convulsive episodes occurring when body temperature exceeds 38°C due to extracranial causes. Recurrent febrile seizures, particularly those lasting more than 15 minutes, may lead to neuronal damage and potentially affect cognitive development, including attention deficits and hyperactivity. Objective: This study aimed to determine the association between a history of febrile seizures and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children. Methods: This analytic descriptive study used a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 32 children diagnosed with ADHD who met the inclusion criteria. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires completed by parents or guardians. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, with the Chi-square test used to assess statistical associations. Results: No significant association was found between a history of febrile seizures and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (p = 0.64). In contrast, age was significantly associated with ADHD (p < 0.05). Conclusion: No significant relationship was found between febrile seizure history and ADHD in children in Makassar.

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal disorder that limits daily activities and reduces productivity. Rukuk, a bowing position performed during Islamic prayer, requires correct spinal alignment. Incorrect posture can increase the risk of LBP, but empirical evidence is still limited. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between the rukuk position and the severity of low back pain among medical faculty lecturers. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 71 female lecturers at the Faculty of Medicine, Indonesian Muslim University, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Aberdeen Low Back Pain Scale questionnaire and structured interviews. Descriptive statistical analysis and Chi-square correlation tests were performed using SPSS software. Results: Most respondents were in the productive age category (83.1%). Proper bowing posture was observed in 91.5% of respondents. Mild low back pain was reported by 83.1%, 9.9% experienced moderate low back pain, while 7.0% experienced severe low back pain. Chi Square correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between bowing posture and the severity of low back pain (p = 0.02). Conclusion: Most lecturers performed rukuk correctly and only reported mild lower backpain. This study found a significant relationship between rukuk posture and back pain. Further research with a larger and more diverse population, as well as a longitudinal design, is recommended to better understand the potential relationship between religious practices, posture, and musculoskeletal health.

Abstract

Introduction: This study meant to evaluate the efficacy of intramuscular mesenchymal stem cell derived secretome therapy to improve the glycemic control among diabetic patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) on stable insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents (OHO). n=30 per group (Insulin + Secretome; OHO + Secretome). Methods: Pre–post controlled design; biweekly 2 mL intramuscular secretome for 12 weeks; primary outcomes HbA1c, FBG, 2hPP; standard tests per normality. Participants were divided into two groups: Insulin + Secretome and OHO + Secretome. All subjects received intramuscular injections of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived secretome (2 mL) every two weeks over a 12-week period (six injections total). Primary outcomes included changes in HbA1c, fasting blood glucose (FBG), and two-hour postprandial glucose (2hPPBG). Statistical analyses used paired t-tests or Wilcoxon tests for within-group comparisons and independent t-tests or Mann-Whitney U tests for between-group comparisons. Results: At baseline, both groups had comparable HbA1c and glucose profiles. After 12 weeks, significant reductions were observed in both treatment arms. HbA1c decreased by -1.10 ± 0.45 (Insulin) and -1.33 ± 0.36 (OHO); between-group ΔHbA1c (p < 0.05). Both groups also showed clinically relevant reductions in FBG and 2hPPBG levels. No major adverse effects were reported. Conclusion: Intramuscular MSC-secretome improved glycemic control across background therapies; the benefit was modestly greater with OHO. No majoradverse events were observed

Abstract

Background: The administrative claim process within the National Health Insurance (JKN) system managed by BPJS Kesehatan continues to experience policy dynamics that directly impact hospital claim submission mechanisms. This study aims to analyze the pending inpatient INA-CBGs claim administration process between General Hospitals (RSU) and Specialized Hospitals (RSK) during the period from July to December 2024. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test to determine differences in the causes of pending claims based on hospital type. Results: The findings revealed that in RSU, the dominant cause of claim pendings was related to coding rules (78%), followed by service standards (45.4%) and administrative completeness (22.8%). In RSK, although the distribution pattern differed, these three factors remained the primary contributors to claim pendings. The Chi-Square test showed no significant difference between RSU and RSK regarding service standards (p = 0.5); however, significant differences were found in coding rules and administrative completeness (p = 0.001). Conclusion: These findings indicate that hospital type influences specific aspects of the pending claim administration process. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the quality of coders in RSU through training on INA-CBGs coding guidelines, and to improve the quality of administrative personnel in RSK by recruiting staff who meet the standard educational qualifications for hospital administration.

Abstract

Mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, are common health issues in Indonesia, with a reported prevalence of 7%. The primary pharmacological treatments include antidepressants particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and anxiolytics such as benzodiazepines. This study aims to examine the characteristics of antidepressant and anxiolytic therapy among outpatients at the Psychiatric Clinic of RSKD South Sulawesi Province in 2024, based on age, gender, drug class, and dosage. A descriptive cross-sectional observational design was employed through a review of medical records. Based on this approach, the study found that most patients were aged ≥50 years, with anxiety disorders more commonly diagnosed in males, while mixed disorders were more frequent in females. Benzodiazepines were the most prescribed (50%), followed by SSRIs (20%). The most common combination therapy was tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) with benzodiazepines. Alprazolam was the most frequently prescribed medication. Although combination therapy is widely used, it requires careful monitoring due to the risk of dependency.
