Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of using animated videos on the A2 level writing skills of Grade XII students at SMA Swasta Nommensen Pematangsiantar Campus. This research applied a quantitative method with a Pre-Experimental design, specifically the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research instrument was an essay test consisting of one item. After conducting data analysis, the mean score of the pretest was 63, while the mean score of the posttest was 83.4. The sample consisted of 23 students from Grade XII. Based on the hypothesis testing using the T-test and N-Gain test, the analysis showed that the t-observed value was 12.972, while the t-table value with a degree of freedom (df) of 22 at a significance level of 0.05 was 1.717. Since t-observed > t-table (12.972 > 1.717), the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Furthermore, the N-Gain score percentage was 55.4%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of animated videos has a significant effect on improving the A2 level writing skills of Grade XII students at SMA Swasta Nommensen Pematangsiantar Campus

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Impact of Loneliness on the Intensity of Mobile Phone Use in Early Adolescents of the Gen-Alpha Generation. The subjects in this study were early adolescents of the Gen-Alpha generation. Early adolescents in this study are defined as individuals aged 12-14 years, according to the developmental age limits. Based on the results of the research that has been carried out, the following conclusions can be drawn: There is a significant relationship between loneliness and the intensity of mobile phone use. This result is proven by the value of the loneliness variable on the intensity of mobile phone use variable of .000, namely .000 > 0.05. This shows that the research hypothesis is accepted, namely there is an impact of loneliness on the intensity of mobile phone use in early adolescents of the Gen-Alpha generation. The Pearson Correlation value of = .948 indicates a positive direction of the relationship between loneliness and the intensity of mobile phone use. This shows that the loneliness variable (X) has a strong level of relationship with the intensity of mobile phone use variable (Y), namely a unidirectional relationship. If the X variable increases then the Y variable also increases

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of applying the cooperative learning model type STAD (Student Teams Achievement Division) on the economics learning outcomes of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Lubuk Pakam. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a One Group Pretest–Posttest design, involving a sample of 36 students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test that had been validated in terms of validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminating power. The findings indicate an improvement in students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of the STAD model, as evidenced by higher average posttest scores compared to pretest scores. The prerequisite tests showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, making them suitable for further analysis. The simple linear regression analysis resulted in the equation Y = 27.069 + 2.114X with an R² value of 0.884, meaning that 88.4% of the variation in learning outcomes was influenced by the implementation of STAD. The t-test revealed t value = 16.118 > t table = 2.048 with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05, thus confirming that the hypothesis was accepted. Moreover, the N-Gain score of 0.6819 (68.19%) fell into the medium-to-high category, indicating the effectiveness of the STAD model in improving students’ learning achievement. In conclusion, the application of the cooperative learning model type STAD has a positive and significant effect on economics learning outcomes and can serve as an innovative and effective instructional strategy in senior high schools, particularly at SMA Negeri 2 Lubuk Pakam

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of using PowerPoint-based learning media on the understanding of 10th grade students in Economics at Parulian 2 Private High School, Medan. The background of this study is the low level of students' understanding of Economics material, as indicated by the results of observations of declining grades in the last three years. One of the contributing factors is the less than optimal use of learning media by teachers, where the lecture method still dominates, making students passive and less motivated. The type of research used is quantitative research with an experimental design using a two-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of the study were 28 students in class XA as the experimental class who were given treatment with animated PowerPoint media, and 27 students in class XB as the control class who were taught with conventional lecture methods. The research instruments consisted of an understanding test, teacher and student observation sheets, and an understanding questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tests, normality tests, and simple regression tests. The results showed that there was a significant increase in students' understanding after using PowerPoint learning media. The average student comprehension score in the experimental class increased from 61.48 in the pretest to 86.50 in the posttest, while the control class only increased from 66.10 to 71.50. This demonstrates that the use of PowerPoint-based learning media can improve student comprehension more effectively than lecture methods. Therefore, it can be concluded that PowerPoint-based learning media has a positive effect on improving student comprehension in Economics. This research is expected to serve as a reference for teachers in developing more innovative and engaging learning strategies tailored to student needs

Abstract

This research analyzes the use of sarcastic language in the film Jakarta vs Everybody (2016) by employing Jonathan Culpeper’s (2011) theory of impoliteness strategies. The study aims to identify the types of sarcasm used, examine their meanings, and determine the most dominant type appearing in the dialogues. This research applies a descriptive qualitative method, with the researcher as the primary instrument. Data were obtained from the film’s transcript by observing, identifying, and categorizing utterances containing sarcasm. The findings reveal three types of sarcasm used in the film: irony (26 data / 63.41%), mock politeness (13 data / 31.70%), and over-politeness (2 data / 4.87%). No instances of deadpan sarcasm (0%) were found. Irony occurs when the speaker delivers an utterance whose literal meaning is positive but whose intended meaning is negative; mock politeness involves the use of insincere politeness to ridicule; and over-politeness exaggerates courtesy to convey criticism or satire. The meanings of sarcasm identified in the film generally carry harsh, demeaning, and critical nuances, functioning as tools for social commentary, emotional expression, and conflict in character interactions.Based on the analysis, irony is the most dominant type of sarcasm, appearing in 63.41% of the sarcastic utterances. This dominance indicates that the film frequently employs irony as a narrative device to reflect urban Jakarta’s social tensions and to shape character dynamics
