Abstract

In this paper, I argue that we need a wide understanding of culture and identity to understand how education shapes cultural identity, both positively and negatively. I present definitions of culture and identity that permit the complex relationships between education, culture, and identity to be explored and productively related to one another. I discuss how the teaching of both official and minority languages can contribute to the shaping of cultural identities. I reflect on how teachers can build on their students’ first and additional languages to develop inclusive and powerful cultural identities. Using examples from work in Australia, Vietnam, and Germany, I will look at how inclusive approaches to education have created spaces for new cultural identities. Central to my argument will be seeing the role of the teacher as an active decision-maker who uses physical, intellectual, and emotional spaces flexibly to create new learning opportunities.

Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae that can lead to physical deformity if left untreated. Indonesia currently ranks third in the world for leprosy prevalence, with the highest concentration of cases found in the provinces of West Papua, North Maluku, and Papua. These provinces, located in the eastern region of Indonesia, face numerous challenges in terms of healthcare accessibility for early leprosy detection due to various factors and novel, more accessible method to detect leprosy is urgently needed. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach to early leprosy detection by leveraging the ResU-Net model. The ResU-Net, a hybrid architecture, combines the robust U-Net framework, renowned for its efficacy in medical image segmentation, with the powerful ResNet-50 and ResNet-101 backbones. The incorporation of ResNet-50 and ResNet-101 enhances the model's capability to extract intricate features from the target image, allowing for a more comprehensive analysis and ultimately, a more accurate and early detection of leprosy. To train and validate our model, we employ the CO2Wounds Leprosy dataset, a comprehensive collection of medical images showcasing images of leprosy taken using smartphone. The research results demonstrate the promising potential of ResU-Net in accurately identifying leprosy-affected areas within these images with highest IoU scores of around 80% with the ResNet101 backbone and around 79% with the ResNet50 backbone. This method holds great potential for improving the management of leprosy in regions with high prevalence by enabling accessible and timely interventions.

Abstract

Cultural identity may indirectly determine how a person within a particular cultural context takes action to prevent and treat a condition or a disease. Knowledge is one of predisposing factors that can influence both cultural identity and health behavior. Rural communities in Indonesia have their own cultural identity that may influence the health-related behavior of the residents. The Village of Duyung is one of example of this case. The lifestyle and medicine-related behavior of the residents might be influenced by the nature of its collective or communal culture. This report aims to present the level of awareness of the principles of healthy lifestyle and appropriate medicine-related behaviour in the Village of Duyung. A community empowerment program was designed and conducted in July and August 2023. All 23 participants were women with age ranged from. 26 to 47 years. The proportion of participants who were unaware of the principles of healthy lifestyles and medicine-related behavior was as high as 78.3 and 87.0%, respectively. There is a statistically significant difference in the final score of knowledge before and immediately after the training on the principles of healthy lifestyle and medicine-related behavior. The program demonstrated a significant change of the awareness and knowledge of some participants in the Village of Duyung on healthy lifestyle and the appropriateness of medicine-related behaviour. The impact on how this method of education contributes to cultural identity and consistent health-related behavior over longer time needs further study.

Abstract

The coast of Ketingan Sidoarjo is a fairly dynamic area, where the lives of fishermen depend on fishing. Ecosystem changes that occur in the coastal area of Ketingan Sidoarjo greatly affect the fishing effort, where one of the parameters that can be observed is the distribution of chlorophyll content from the water bodies on the coast. The purpose of this research is to analyze and map the distribution of chlorophyll content in the coastal area of Ketingan, Sidoarjo. This is based on the fact that researchers have not done much research on chlorophyll using 2-channel Terra Modis satellite imagery, where the best response is on Channel 3 = Rrs_678/Rrs_555, the best model obtained is the 2nd order Polynomial Algorithm Model y = 1.2446 x2 – 1.725 x + 1.0987 with a degree of determination R2= 0.3826.

Abstract

Laying chickens are a commodity that is popular with the public for fulfillment of animal protein requirements. In cultivating laying hens, several risks must be taken into account. This research aims to analyze sources of risks faced, priority risk levels and management strategies risks of the laying hen farming business carried out by laying hen breeders in The research location is Ringinrejo Village, Kandat District, Kediri Regency. Respondents to the research were 62 breeders using the census method of laying hens. In analyzing risk sources, the Fishbone Diagram is used. In analyzing the risk level, qualitative descriptive analysis of management strategies farm management. From the research results, there are two sources of risk, namely production risk and price risk. The highest production risk is characterized by the presence of climate warming, disease attacks, weather changes, limited capital, poor feed quantity and quality, as well as pest attacks. While at-risk prices were marked by a decrease in egg prices and an increase in feed prices. Therefore, breeders can explain several strategies, namely by expanding distribution channels and establishing cooperation, developing cages adaptive, preventing and treat pests and diseases, as well as Improving the quality of human resources.

Abstract

Selection of Saccharomyces Cereviceae (SC) wastewater as a component produced by PT. Enero comes from a fermentation process that uses SC yeast, it’s availability is great and it has not been used as a raw material for glucose, which until now has been industrial waste. Efforts have been made to convert SC waste water into liquid fertilizer and biodiesel feedstock. The recovery of glucose from SC waste water in the chemical hydrolysis process using the reaction surface method (RSM), the hydrolysis process was carried out with a digital stirrer at a rotation speed of 200 rpm and the addition of 5 ml of 10% NaOH. The variables used were 50–250 mL SC waste water and 10–30 mL HCl volume. The optimization results using RSM of the chemical hydrolysis process are shown in three-dimensional graphs, pH and SC waste water ratio and HCl volume, glucose content and SC waste water ratio and HCl volume. The best results with SC waste volume of 8.58 mL and HCl volume of 34.14 mL achieved a pH of 4.38. In order to achieve a pH of 4.5, a hydrolysis process is carried out because the pH of the SC waste water is very acidic, i.e. 3.5, and 10% NaOH is added to increase the pH. The result of glucose from the hydrolysis process is 17.96%, the required volume of waste water SC of 137.14 ml, the addition of 34.14 ml of HCl as a raw material for the fermentation process. Based on the optimization results using RSM and chemical hydrolysis method, the glucose content is 17.96% and the pH is 4.38 with the SC water waste volume of 137.14 mL and the HCl volume of 34.14 mL.

Abstract

The East Surabaya area is one of the industrial and office centers. The high activity of the people in the city of Surabaya will affect transportation mobility which is marked by the growth of road traffic volume which continues to increase rapidly. This area has a lot of community mobility to and from the East Surabaya area. This caused congestion on several roads. Congestion is the main problem of transportation in urban areas. At certain hours there is often a spike in traffic volume that exceeds the capacity of existing roads. This is related to the starting hours of activities in East Surabaya and the ending hours of activities from East Surabaya which coincide, causing traffic jams. The East Surabaya area is divided into two times when the traffic volume increases, namely morning and evening. Based on this, this study aims to determine when there is a spike in traffic volume. The method used is a traffic volume survey, looking for peak hour volume based on cur/hour units and determining when peak hours occur. The results showed that the highest volume in direction 1 during peak hour occurred on Friday in Jalan Panjang Jiwo with a volume of 5947 cur/hour and direction 2 occurred on Friday on Jalan Jemursari. The average time for an increase in traffic volume in the East Surabaya area in the morning is 07.00 to 08.35 and in the afternoon is 15.35-18.00.

Abstract

Forecasting involves making future estimates. Forecasting methods are commonly employed to predict stock prices, monetary distribution, and weather conditions. To generate accurate forecasts, it is crucial that the data used is consistent, comprehensive, and unchanging. Some data can be readily predicted, while some poses a considerable challenge. An illustration of this is found in discontinuous data, which is notably hard to forecast. Discontinuous data is marked by frequent instances of zero values due to sporadic events. For instance, when tracking the sales of aircraft or other products, sales do not transpire daily, causing recorded data to often register as zero. Various techniques have been explored to handle this kind of data. In this particular study, the chosen method is support vector regression. This method is capable of predicting discontinuous data with a quality level of 1.004, which is lower than traditional approaches like exponential smoothing.

Abstract

Stunting is a problem that currently requires special attention in Indonesia. The stunting rate in 2022 will drop to 21.6% and for the future, the government has set a target of up to 14% in 2024. There have been many government efforts in implementing programs to reduce stunting rates. However, not everything runs optimally. Rapid technological developments and freedom of expression in the internet world produce review text data that can be analyzed for evaluation. This study aims to analyze the text data of Twitter users' reviews on stunting. The method used is a text-mining approach and topic modeling based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The results show that negative sentiment dominates by 60.6%, positive sentiment by 31.5%, and neutral by 7.9%. In addition, this research shows that 'anak', 'turun', 'angka', 'cegah' and 'gizi' are among the words that often appear on the topic of stunting.
