Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of the English learning curriculum for children/students with special needs, especially students with hearing impairments at Dian Bahagia School. This study aims to explore the application of the curriculum, the challenges faced by teachers, and effective learning methods. The research method used is qualitative, with data obtained through in-depth interviews and observations. The results of the study show that the implementation of a flexible curriculum, such as the Independent Curriculum, plays an important role in meeting the unique needs of Deaf Students. Adjustments in learning methods, such as the use of visual media and a project-based approach, help students understand the material despite having limitations in hearing and verbal communication. The main challenges faced by teachers include students' limitations in pronunciation, text comprehension, and writing skills. The use of visual media, hearing aids, and sign language are the main solutions to overcoming this challenge. Project-based learning methods are effective in improving students' understanding of the material; while encouraging their active involvement in the learning process. The study also emphasizes the importance of collaboration between schools, teachers, parents, and education experts to create inclusive learning programs. In addition, technology, such as sign language translation applications and interactive modules can make a significant contribution to more optimal learning outcomes. The study concludes that the flexibility of the curriculum tailored to students' needs focuses not only on academic achievement; but also on the development of relevant life skills. With this approach, a more inclusive learning environment is created and supports the holistic development of deaf students. Recommendations for further research include exploring the adaptation of project-based learning methods to other specific needs and the application of new technologies in supporting learning.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the 2024 inaugural speech of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto through the lens of James Paul Gee's Seven Building Tasks of Language, a framework that enables a critical exploration of how language constructs and enacts social realities. The study investigates how Prabowo’s discourse performs various linguistic functions that shape political meaning, reinforce collective identities, and articulate ideological positions. By applying Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as a methodological foundation, this research reveals the ways in which language is used to assign significance to national challenges, promote specific social practices, construct relational identities between the speaker and the audience, and negotiate the distribution of social goods such as welfare, justice, and public trust. Furthermore, the speech connects Indonesia’s historical struggles with its contemporary aspirations, while mobilizing religious, cultural, and technological sign systems to legitimize the speaker’s vision and authority. Through Gee’s framework, the speech emerges as a rich site of political meaning-making, wherein nationalism, moral accountability, and calls for unity are not merely expressed, but actively constructed through strategic linguistic choices. Ultimately, the analysis shows how political language serves as a powerful tool for leadership legitimacy, public persuasion, and the performative shaping of national identity.

Abstract

This article explores how the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, written by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, depicts existential despair through Evelyn Wang’s persistent doubts and uncertainties. As the story unfolds, Evelyn is thrown into the multiverse, where she encounters numerous versions of herself, overwhelming her with never-ending possibilities. These encounters lead her to question her choices, as well as her sense of purpose and self-worth. The ongoing uncertainty about which version of herself is “right” or “real” drives Evelyn into a state of existential despair, intensifying her feelings of hopelessness. By applying Kierkegaard’s theory of existential despair and qualitative method, this research analyzes how Evelyn’s internal conflict reflects the dread and disorientation that emerge when individuals face the uncertainty of their existence. In conclusion, through an examination of Evelyn’s perception of freedom and identity, also shaped by her doubts, the psychological and philosophical weight of uncertainty in the quest for authenticity and purpose are underscored further.

Abstract

English for Medical purposes is increasingly important in medical education to prepare students to actively participate in international scientific communication. This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach in its second stage, namely planning for English for medical academic purposes syllabus. Document analysis was conducted on existing lecture materials, case scenarios in medical education, and international frameworks in scientific communication and the previous need analysis. The designed syllabus systematically integrates four language skills namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing, through learning activities such as Small Group Discussion (SGD) using the Seven Steps to Problem Solving (7-Jump Step) method, oral presentation training, article structure analysis, and medical text evaluation using the Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion/IMRAD, Setting, Population, Intervention, Condition, Endpoint (SPICED), and Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials/CONSORT models. The EMAP syllabus provides a practical and contextual model for integrating language and content in medical education Keywords: English for Medical and Academic Purposes ; syllabus design, Research and Development
