Abstract

Limited practical entrepreneurial experience and low innovation capacity among students remain challenges in student entrepreneurship programs. Furthermore, the utilization of local resources as a foundation for developing innovative products has not been optimally integrated into entrepreneurship education. Therefore, this community service activity aims to strengthen students’ entrepreneurial competencies through mentoring in the development of an innovative functional beverage based on local resources, namely Cendol Daun Katuk (CENDAKA). This activity involved five students participating in the student entrepreneurship program at Sebelas Maret University. The implementation stages included needs identification, product innovation training, mentoring for product development and production, as well as mentoring on online and offline marketing strategies. Evaluation was conducted through observations of the 5 student participants and a consumer response questionnaire involving 110 respondents using a Likert scale. The results of the activity show that students successfully developed an innovative product by integrating traditional cendol with katuk leaf extract (Sauropus androgynus) as both a natural colorant and a functional ingredient. The mentoring process also helped students understand product development, innovation practices, and marketing implementation in entrepreneurial activities. Consumer responses indicated a high level of acceptance, with satisfaction scores above 80% across all evaluated aspects. These findings suggest that mentoring-based entrepreneurial activities can support the development of students’ entrepreneurial competencies while promoting the utilization of local resources and sustainable product innovation. Therefore, this initiative contributes to strengthening entrepreneurship education and community-based economic development.

Abstract

The ecological crisis caused by massive land conversion over the last two decades has contributed to environmental degradation in the Greater Malang area. Data from the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI) in 2021 recorded the loss of 348 hectares of primary forest, indicating the erosion of the region’s ecological integrity. This community-based empowerment initiative aimed to strengthen ecological awareness through the documentation and dissemination of customary ecological knowledge in the Selorejo Indigenous Community. The program was implemented through community discussions, field documentation, and the production of a documentary film highlighting customary law practices and local wisdom in environmental conservation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, discussions with community members, and documentation of customary conservation practices. The results show that the documentary process facilitated the preservation of local ecological knowledge and strengthened community reflection on the importance of forest protection, water resource conservation, and environmental stewardship. Customary practices, including collective forest protection, traditional rituals, community deliberation, and shared environmental responsibilities, encourage active community participation in environmental governance. Furthermore, the documentary film serves as an educational medium for disseminating ecological values and customary environmental norms to broader audiences. These findings demonstrate that customary law functions not only as a socially legitimate system of norms but also as a community-based mechanism for ecological empowerment, strengthening ecological legal awareness and supporting sustainable environmental conservation.

Abstract

The limited number of halal-certified poultry slaughterhouses in Indonesia represents a critical bottleneck in strengthening the halal supply chain. Empirical evidence shows that small-scale slaughterhouses often lack halal certification due to low technical capacity, inadequate facilities, and weak managerial systems, which undermine halal traceability and increase compliance risks. This community service aims to strengthen the halal supply chain by enhancing capacity and facilitating halal certification for a poultry slaughterhouse group in Jambi City, selected due to its strategic role as a local supplier and its low initial readiness for certification. This program applied a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach involving 19 participants, including slaughterhouse workers and managers. Activities were conducted over three months, including needs assessment, halal regulation socialization, technical training, slaughter practice, development of Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) documents, facility improvement, and certification mentoring.The results show measurable improvements. Participants’ knowledge increased from an average pre-test score of 52.3 to 81.6 in the post-test, and all participants obtained halal slaughterer training certificates. Two SJPH documents were successfully developed, including halal policies, SOPs, and monitoring forms. Facility improvements included the separation of clean and dirty areas, provision of sanitation equipment, and improved production flow. By the end of the program, two business units had applied for halal certification, and all participants met the initial administrative requirements
