Abstract

The magnificence and glamorous life of public figures including singers are not always ending happily. The works pressure and fans become parts of life conflicts. Haters couldn’t be also ignored since they spread negative words and rumours. However, as a professional, a singer keep being productive through her songs. The lyrics in the songs carry message that could be related to their privacy. Besides, their photograph in the album cover emblematizes a purpose. Through the multimodal discourse analysis, readers are well-told about the meaning behind the photograph and lyrics. The verbal aspects in the clauses have an ideology. Additionally, the non-verbal aspects of the album cover provide visual image, posture, gesture, facial expression and color. Thus, the study aims to analyze the ‘not-so-revival’ in lyrics and front cover image by Selena Gomez’s ‘Revival’ album.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas register bahasa dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini meliputi tiga hal, yaitu 1) Bagaimanakah bentuk-bentuk register yang terdapat dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha? 2) Bagaimanakah makna register yang terdapat dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha? 3) Apakah fungsi register yang terdapat dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha? Sejalan dengan permasalahan yang dibahas, tujuan penelitian ini adalah 1) mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk register yang terdapat dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha 2) mendeskripsikan makna register yang terdapat dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha 3) mendeskruipsikan fungsi register yang terdapat dalam komunikasi keagamaan umat Buddha. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Bentuk penelitiannya adalah deskriptif. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sosiolinguistik dengan ancangan register bahasa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik pustaka dan simak, rekam, dan catat. Metode analisis data bersifat interaktif dan menggunakan metode padan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat bentuk register bahasa yakni bentuk tunggal, bentuk, kompleks, bentuk frasa dan bentuk ungkapan. Sementara itu dari fungsi register terdapatr tujuh fungsi penggunaan register dalam komunikasi itu yakni, fungsi personal, fungsi interaksional, fungsi informatif, fungsi regulatif, fungsi imajinatif, fungsi heuristik dan fungsi instrumental. register yang terbentuk adalah melalui proses percampuran dwi bahasa atau lebih yang mana istilah-istuilah keagamaan berasal dari bahasa Pali yang bersumber pda kitab suci. Sementara itu, penggunaan bahasa indonesia juga terintegrasi dengan bahasa pali yang membentuk istilah keagamaan Buddha.

Abstract

Ability to speak well in social and professional settings is desired by EFL learners. However, very view have achieved high speaking skill. Hesitation, idea loss, mother tongue interference, word-recalling problems, and low fluency are noticeable stains in their speaking performance. The problems are caused by low self-confidence, reluctant to take risks to speak, and fear of making mistakes and fool of themselves in front of others. In Indonesia context, English speaking practices are mostly done in classroom-based speaking instruction (CBSI). However, CBSI cannot adequately solve those problems. This article aims to reveal the constraints of CBSI through literature analysis. The results showed that CBSI: (1) unable to increase students’ speaking frequency: so many students but so little time, and the teacher takes the biggest portion of the talk; (2) asymmetrical teacher-student interaction: the teacher is more authoritative for his knowledge or status superiority; (3) lack of meaningful communication: the students do not have opportunities to interpret, express, and negotiate meaning in spontaneous oral expression; (4) lack of authentic communication: the purpose of communication is not real but decided by the teacher, not what the students really want to talk about; (5) not promoting autonomous learning. To address the CBSI constraints, English teaching institutions must consider the potential role of ICT such as zoom, Skype, Google meet, podcast, etc., which offer a multitude of ways to engage in communicative activities. The utilization of ICT should be purposed to creating optimal conditions of language learning environment, i.e. opportunities to interact and negotiate meaning, interacting in the target language with authentic audience, involving in authentic tasks, exposure and encouragement to produce varied and creative language, enough time and feedback; guidance to attend mindfully to the learning process, work in an atmosphere with an ideal stress/anxiety level, supporting autonomy.

Abstract

Rigid construction of gender roles in society causes a bad influence on a man was toxic masculinity. Several world organizations are trying to carry out a movement to defend the issue of gender equality, one of which is the White Ribbon organization. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The analytical technique used is Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis with three dimensions, namely the text dimension, discourse practice and socio cultural practice. Researchers collect data by observation by observing the video campaign, then collect data through documentation by taking screenshots of the scene. The results show that this video campaign provides an overview of people who still practice traditional masculinity or toxic masculinity and the negative impacts that accompany it. The impact of traditional masculinity in the form of character formation that leads to a negative realm, bullying treatment and toxic masculinity. As a form of resistance to male stereotypes in this video, it is shown that it doesn't matter if men have to cry, be emotional or even hurt because they are ordinary people. The White Ribbon seeks to promote a new paradigm of healthier and more positive masculinity in the midst of labeling society.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan peranti kohesi gramatikal dan kohesi leksikal dalam argumentasi mahasiswa. Penelitian ini dibatasi pada tulisan berbahasa Inggris yaitu penggunaan peranti kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal dalam teks argumentatif mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan ancangan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif-analitis. Deskripsi dan analisis diarahkan ke semua klausa bahasa Inggris yang mengandungi peranti kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal dalam teks argumentasi yang ditulis oleh 3 mahasiswa yang berbahasa ibu Bahasa Indonesia. Galat pada kohesi gramatikal dan leksikal pada tiga argumentasi mahasiswa merupakan basantara dalam mengungkapkan makna dalam bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa target. Tentunya, basantara pelajar yang dihasilkan tidak sempurna karena dipengaruh oleh bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa ibu.

Abstract

This study aims to make students brave, confident in speaking English and able to express their sentences actively and creatively. The object of research is class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Cibinong, Bogor Regency. This research was made on the basis of the problems faced by the writer, namely when students were asked to speak in English or express learned expressions, most of them felt afraid, insecure, nervous and stuttered and there were even students who did not utter a single word. . This may be caused by internal and external factors from them. To overcome this problem the author tries to use the Android version of the online robot application (ESL ROBOT PRO) which is facilitated by the WWW.ESLFAST.COM website (an online robot used to learn English for students from countries where English is a second language or a foreign language). to practice communicating in English anytime and anywhere accessed via mobile phone (mobile phone). Even this application is very easy to download and there is no time limit for its users. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method using an observation sheet containing a Speaking assessment rubric and an activity control observation sheet. Students are asked to send video recordings when they are talking to the robot and screenshots of the chat results. The observation results showed an increase in students' speaking skills and it was seen that most students were motivated, confident which made them creative, happy and able to apply what they had learned and even parents and other family members took advantage of this online robot application. Abstract

Awal 2020 Covid 19 mulai masuk ke Indonesia, jumlah yang terjangkit makin banyak. Perlu adanya pencegahan agar dapat mengurangi resiko penyebaran. Keluarga merupakan unit terkecil yang mempunyai peran penting dalam mencegah penyebaran Covid 19. Penelitian ini ingin melihat bagaimana pengaruh komunikasi keluarga terhadap tingkat pencegahan penyebaran Covid 19 di Kerinci. Metode penelitian kunatitatif deskriptif dengan jenis explanatori, dengan mengunakan analisis regresi sederhana dibantu dengan menggunakan SPSS 25. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori orientasi kepenurutan. Hasil penelitian pengaruh signifikan antara komunikasi keluarga terhadap tingkat pencegahan penyebaran Covid 19 di Kerinci. Saran dari penelitian ini adalah perlu adanya kesadaran untuk tidak membuang sisa masker dan tisu yang sudah dipakai, berpergian jauh, dan melaporkan kondisi kesehatan kepada petugas.

Abstract

The students’ reading comprehension need to be improved. One of the problems is caused by the teachers that still depend on the text book to teach students in teaching reading comprehension. Therefore, the researchers proposed a solution to overcome this problem by implementing a different learning strategy, namely sketch to stretch strategy. This research objective was to find out whether the implementation of sketch to stretch strategy able to improve the students’ reading comprehension. The researchers used a pre-experimental design with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was the second-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Suppa. The sample of this research was class VIII.2 consists of 23 students. In collecting data, the researchers used a reading comprehension test which was divided into pretest and posttest. The technique of analysis data used mean score and t-test formula for an independent sample. The findings demonstrated that the result of mean score in post-test (78.04) was higher than the mean score in pre-test (49.1). The posttest standard deviation was (10.1). At a significance level of 0.05 and a degree of freedom (df) of 22, the value of the t-test (17.558) was higher than the t-table (1.717). As a result, hypotheses H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. The researchers concluded that implementation of sketch to stretch strategy improves the reading comprehension competence of the students.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui komunikasi pemasaran politik Anies R. Baswedan dan Sandiaga S. Uno dalam pemilu Jakarta tahun 2017 dengan menggunakan teori Marketing Politik Nursal (2004) yang meliputi tiga strategi, yakni: (1) Pemasaran produk politik secara langsung (push political marketing), (2) pemasaran produk politik melalui media massa (pull political marketing), (3) melalui tokoh, kelompok atau organisasi yang berpengaruh (pass political marketing). Metode penelitian ini termasuk kategori deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dan pendekatam studi kasus. Data penelitian diambil dengan interview, pengamatan lapangan serta dokumentasi. Data lapangan yang didapatkan dianalisa menggunakan metode analisis interaktif dari Miles dan Huberman (1984). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan pasangan Anies Baswedan dan Sandiaga Uno menggunakan strategi push political marketing; bertemu konstituen politik secara langsung (blusukan). Pass political marketing; memanfaatkan image dan nama besar tokoh seperti Prabowo, Habib Rizieq dan BJ Habibie dan menggunakan influencer politik. Pull political marketing; fokus pada pembentukan simbol dan image politik meliputi: #Salam Bersama, Salam OK-Oce (simbol politik), Tagline “Maju Kotanya, Bahagia Warganya”, Dresscode Baju Putih Berpeci Hitam (image politik).

Abstract

Some people say that writing an English abstract is difficult because they have to pay attention to the use of English grammar. Moreover, writing an English abstract has to use correct tenses. Each component of the abstract should use different tenses. The study aimed to describe the tenses used in the English abstract of the articles published in the online journal of Universitas Bhamada Slawi and analyze the errors in tense. The study was qualitative research with a descriptive method. The population was 221 documents; those were checked by inclusion and exclusion criteria resulting in 101 abstracts from the two journals. The obtained data were analyzed by data triangulation. Based on the data analysis, it described two types the use of tenses in the English abstract; simple present tense for all (57 abstracts) and a combination of simple present and past tense (44 abstracts). Also, there were some sentences categorized by errors in tenses. In conclusion, two tenses are used to arrange an English abstract; simple present tense for "background" and "conclusion", and past tense for arranging "purpose", "method", and "result". To avoid more errors in tenses, the journal should enclose a file including the use of exact tenses in each part of the abstract.
