Abstract

As a health problem, prevalence of severe underweight in Indonesia is still high. Riskesdas 2008 indicate that prevalence of severe underweight and underweight in Indonesia are 5.5% and 13.0%, respectively. Effort to overcome that problem are still focused on severe underweight children, so need to anticipate of getting worse of underweight ones of being fell into severe underweight. The aim of this research is to make RUF fortified by encapsulated iron and zinc to overcome underweight balita (under five of age children). First step of this research is making flour from rice, soybean, cassava, sweet potato and taro with proceeded by two kinds of treatment, i.e. physic method (using high temperature and pressure) and soaking in solution of Na2HC03 (1.5% and 2.0%). Drum dryer was applied to dry the ingredient (rice, soybean, cassava, sweet potato and taro) and then milled using disc mill. Microencapsulation of iron and zinc was using arabic gum and maltodextrin (80:20 and 70:30) and concentration of iron or zinc each is 5.0% and 7.5%. Then, assays of stability of microencapsulated iron and zinc, and their bioavailability (in vitro and in vivo). Before mixed with minerals, 12 combinations of flour (3 kinds of tuber x 2 cooking time x 2 concentration of Na2C03) are tested by hedonic test to choose the best preferences of that combination of ingredients of porridge. Based on technical, economical, and technological considerations, and acceptability, mixed of rice, soybean, and sweet potato is selected as based ingredients of porridge. There is no color and odor change or even crystalline forming during more than one month of storing of microencapsulated iron and zinc. Bioavailability (in vitro) of Fe is around 15,48% to 17,05% and Zn is around 6.05% to 6,36%.

Abstract

Since 2003 year the technic of agroforestry with alley cropping systems has been implemented at the forest areas in Pejarakan Village, District Gerokgak, Regency of Buleleng Province Bali. These activities are expected to support the progress of welfare for farmers, eventhough they have been neglected to preserve forest around village. After the research it was cleared that the result of activities didn't fulfilled to its expectation. The analysis about the compositions and structures of vegetations in this research shows that the dominant type of species which are mainly cultivated have character of Importance Value Index, the balance of species among Diversity Index are still low at all of the communal forest areas and even at the these slope sides. The composition and the structure of species were still few, and the vegetation it self was disturbed by people, in order to illegal longings, cuttings top branches or twigs often occur, and these activities obstacle growth of trees in communal forest areas. It is concluded that the technic of agroforestry at the communal forest areas has few compositions of species and structure of vegetations, so the diversity of species become very poor and not stable either for plants in forestry or for agricultural crops. The researcher could not determine that what species of vegetations superior at this area. So it necessary to enough time for intensive observations and research at this communal forest areas.

Abstract

The personnel administration process for functional staff follow bureaucratic procedures that is time consuming and often difficult to monitor. Further, the process will be prolonged if the process is handled manually. These conditions are often limit staff managers at unit level, technical implementation unit (UPT), or functional staff who need the information timely in a precise and accurate format. Manual handling cannot support the information speed, because staffs have to manually track file(s) or documents in the chain of bureaucracy that is complex and tedious. Delays in the process of obtaining such information could lead toadverse consequences in financial terms if for instance the termination in functional status and monthly salary occurred. One solution to this problem is to develop an online personnel information system (SIMPEG) to accelerate personnel information services. The Design of the online SIMPEG development utilized the method of open group architecture framework (TOGAF) while the system development implemented prototype method. Further the prototype is tested using developed questionnaires. In general the results of this study contribute to personnel information service acceleration. The promotions process (KP) was accelerated to 66.67% i.e. from 11-12 months to 4-3 months. Personnel time off and personnel reinstated (ABK) also accelerated by 66.67% that is previously taken 5-6 months to 2 months. While the process of scholarship approval was accelerated by 50% compared to the old system which was 3-4 months to 2 months.

Abstract

The use of synthetic insecticide for pest management to protect insect attacking the holticulture product have been done intensivelly and seems not wise which predicted could cause a negative impact to the environmental and human health. Due to that reason then the research prepared to know the pest management technology especially for holticultural product through the use of material or something that come from the agricultural planting material as natural insecticide which could be developed as commercial products that practice and safe to produce healty holticultural product. Three species of fruits and holticultural plant used for the research namely Annona squamosa (Annonaceae/ seed), Piper retrofractum (Piperaceae/fruit) and Tephrosia vogelii (Leguminosae/Leaves) extracted with methanol. Every extract product tested with larva of Cricidolomia pavonana F. (Lepidoptera : Crambidae), that is one of the pest for holticultural product which treated with direction the planting and in the leaves. The extract was tested also to the food barrier of C. Pavonana. The extract of A. Squamosa was contact toxic than abdomen toxic, while on the contrary the extract of P. retrofractum have more impart to the abdomen toxic than contact toxic. The extract of P. Retrofractum and A. Squamosa at the concertation of 0.2 °/o could protect food activities of the larvas that was about 80 °/o. The mixed extract of T. Voge/ii and A. Squamosa more toxic or more effective than the mixed extract of T. Vogelii and P. Retrofractum. In the developing natural insecticide formula, the using of agristic adjuvant was better than tween and miracle especially in formulation establishization. The treatment of P. Retrofractum and T. Vogelii in the field could reduce the development of C. Pavonana which finally those both extract could be used wider as combined with A. Squamosa extract in order to increase the effectiveness.

Abstract

Uric acid concentration could be determined based on the oxidation of uric acid into alantoin in the presence of uricase. Determination of uric acid concentration is needed to diagnose the occurrence of kidney disease in gout patients. The aim of the research was to study the kinetics of uricase in Bacillus subtilis, B. megaterium, and B. cereus cells using spectrophotometry method by measurement the decrease of uric acid absorbance at 293 nm. The optimum conditions of uricase activity from the three bacterial cells occured in physiological conditions and uricase activity was stable until the second day. The values of maximum velocity (Vmax) for B. subtilis, B. megaterium, and B. cereuswere 0.1642, 0.0824, and 0.0412 mM/min, respectively. The values of Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) for B. subtilis, B. megaterium and B. cereus were 0.0003, 0.0036, and 0.0036 mM, respectively. The value of catalytic constant (kkat) for B. subtilis, B. megaterium, and B. cereus were 410.5000, 171.6667, and 257.5000 mM/min ml 00=1, respectively. Based on these results, among all bacteria tested, the highest of uricase binding with substrate in B. substilis cells was observed because of the smallest of Km value and greatest of Vmax and kkat .

Abstract

The research done based on the fact that the log from natural forest could not fullfil the need of domestic forest industry. Annual available cut from natural forest in the year 2007 was only 9.1 million m3 while forest industry domestic country in the year 2005 reached 44.5 million m3.  Raw material crisis was the most problem facing by domestic forest industry and the solution could be come soon as posible. The establishment of social plantation forest is one of the government program to solved the lack of forest industry raw materials. The species for social plantation forest are available more than enough. Previous research done in the year 2009 shown taht most of HTR log was small diameter, short sortimen, heart wood presentation of juvenile wood was very high. The result of research shown that the basic characteristics of three species of HTR namely: Jabon, sengon and pulai have a good colour (bright), moderate texture, fibre is slim to interlocked, have no decoratif form, bulk density low. The characteristic of 6 species HTR was: variation in colour, good texture until moderate, fibre direct until interlocked, the wood have beautiful decoration, moderate bulk density. Basic of characteristic of wood is very important in affacting the quality of the products. An effort to increase the quality of HTR wood should be done so that the use of HTR product becaming important to suggest the developing of creative industry.

Abstract

Marker-assisted PCR has been considered as the most potential method for fragrant selection. RM223 is the only suitable marker to identify mutated badh2 gene of Pandan Wangi. This research applies RM223-assisted PCR in the introgression of fragrant gene (mutated badh2) of Pandan Wangi variety, to engineer non-transgenic fragrant variety with good agronomic traits as those of Ciherang.  Gene introduction was carried out through site-directed crossing; Pandan Wangi was crossed and backcrossed to Ciherang until heterozygot BC5F1, followed by selfing to obtain homozygot BC5F2.  RM223-assisted selection was conducted in each cross and backcross generation. RM223 was able to identify native, mutated and heterozygot badh2 of Ciherang, Pandan Wangi, and their cross/backcross progenies, respectively. Therefore, the introgression of mutated badh2 within progenies were observed, as well as the statues of badh2 gene (native/mutated) and alleles (homozygot/heterozygot). Further backcross and selfing to obtain BC5F2 is in progress.

Abstract

LAPAN-IPB micro satellite (LISAT) is the first EBA (Experimental Based Application) planned to be launched in 2013. The technical schedule implementation includes Phase-1 (2010), Phase-2 (2011), Phase-3 (2012), and Launching/Phase-4 (2013). This research was targeted at the Phase-1 (MAD: Mission Analysis and Design), with priority on space segment and user segment. Goal of this research were three critical elements: (1) initial document of MRD (Mission Requirements Definition) as a reference for next LISAT phase (policy), (2) electronic Basic Ricefield Map (e-BARIM) at the test site in Subang regency, West Java (user segment), and (3) test flight of 3-channel optical sensor (LISAT-EM3) at the test site (space segment). The study was scheduled for gadu season rice crop of 2010, and most of the work completed, except for flight test that were experiencing delay for several times. Flight was re-scheduled from early July to September, but eventually conducted in early November. This was due to the complexity of coordination of many agencies involved: LAPAN I Pustekelegan (administration), TNI headquarters (security clearance), Theta System, Germany (line-CCD), IPB (area-CCD) and Deraya Air (charter aircraft).

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to study the effectiveness of turmeric, garlic and zinc supplementation on protein, albumin and globulin concentration of broiler. One hundred DOC were divided into five treatments, four replications, consist of five chicks in each replicate. The treatments were RO (basal diet as a control), R1 (RO + 1,5% turmeric powder +2,5 % garlic powder), R2 (RO + 2,5% garlic powder + 120 ppm zinc), R3 (RO +1,5% turmeric powder+ 120ppm zinc) and R4 (RO +1,5 turmeric powder+ 2,5% garlic powder + 120 ppm zinc). The diet contain 23,5% crude protein and 3215 kcal metabolizable energy. Blood samples were taken from axillary veins at the three and six weeks of age. The results showed that total protein and globulin concentration at 6 weeks slightly higher than 3 weeks old chicks but not significantly different (P>0.05). Albumin concentration were highest on R3 treatment. Total protein and globulin concentration washighest on the R2 treatment. In conclusion, the supplementation of garlic (2.5%) and ZnO (120 ppm) showed the best combination to improve immune response in broiler.
