Abstract

This research aims to examine the environmental ethics contained in the local wisdom of the Bima people and relate them to the perspective of Islamic philosophy. The focus of this study is based on the local traditions of the community not only having a social function but also loaded with philosophical and spiritual dimensions relevant to Islamic ethics. The research method used is qualitative with an ethnographic-philosophical approach. Data collection was done through in-depth interviews with community leaders, Foccus Group Discussion, field observations, and literature studies. The results of the study show that the environmental ethics of the Bima community include: (1) harmony with nature; (2) Environmental conservation; (3) Sustainable utilization; and (4) socio-ecological responsibility. These values have strong relevance to the teachings of tauhid, the principle of balance (al-mizan), and human responsibility (khalifah) in Islamic philosophy, especially as affirmed in Seyyed Hossein Nasr's thoughts on ecosufism and the sacredness of nature as manifestations of the divine. This research emphasizes that the local wisdom of the Bima people is not just an ecological tradition, but a philosophical praxis that brings together Islamic values with the ecological experience of the community. The implications of the findings of this research can be a foundation in the formulation of regional environmental policies, especially in Bima as well as for strengthening environmental education based on local wisdom and contextual community empowerment programs.

Abstract

Despite the growing scholarship on inclusive education, environmental sustainability, and Islamic educational values, studies examining the interrelationship among ecological justice, disability inclusion, and community participation within Islamic education remain fragmented. Existing research tends to address these dimensions separately, resulting in a limited understanding of how they can be integrated into a coherent educational framework. This study aims to analyze the relationship between ecological justice and inclusivity in Islamic education and to identify the mechanisms through which community participation contributes to the development of a sustainable and equitable educational ecosystem. This study employs a qualitative Systematic Literature Review using the Community Guide Systematic Reviews (CGSR) framework. A total of 32 peer-reviewed articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science published during the last five years were systematically selected and analyzed through thematic synthesis. The findings reveal that Islamic education possesses a strong normative foundation for promoting ecological justice and disability inclusion through the principles of mizan (balance), rahmah (compassion), and maslahah (public benefit). However, the implementation of these values is constrained by interconnected structural and cultural barriers, including limited institutional capacity, insufficient teacher preparedness, fragmented curriculum integration, and persistent social stigma toward disability. The review further demonstrates that community participation functions as a critical enabling mechanism that bridges the gap between Islamic values and educational practice by strengthening social support, institutional capacity, and environmental awareness. Based on this synthesis, the study proposes the Pendidikan Islam Berbasis Komunitas (PIBK) Model as a conceptual framework integrating Islamic values, inclusive educational practices, ecological responsibility, and collaborative community governance. This model represents the main theoretical contribution of the study by providing an integrative approach for advancing socially inclusive and ecologically sustainable Islamic education. The findings offer implications for curriculum development, teacher training, community empowerment, and educational policy reform in muslim societies.

Abstract

Fiqh rules, also known as “Qawa’id Fiqhiyyah,” are the result of scholars’ and mujtahids’ efforts, based on the Qur’an and the Prophet’s Hadith, to find solutions to contemporary problems that do not yet have clear rulings. Fiqh principles function as an outline that helps mujtahids and legal experts make decisions on legal matters. Fiqh principles are a tool for ijtihad on problems that have no explicit text in the Qur’an or Hadith. Fiqh principles are very important in applying modern Islamic law because they are used as a benchmark to determine whether a legal ruling is appropriate or not. Islamic legal outcomes pay much attention to aspects of welfare and the avoidance of harm. Ijtihad based on fiqh principles also considers universal interests, so the law is formulated according to time, place, and situation. The statement above strongly supports the idea that qawa’id fiqhiyyah functions as an analytical tool in legal ijtihad. In writing this article, the method used is a literature review, by studying and directly referring to primary and secondary sources on qawa’id fiqhiyyah. This research shows that fiqh principles help integrate textual sources, the objectives of Sharia, and reality, and they play a strategic role in the methodology of ijtihad and the reconstruction of Islamic law. Fiqh principles such as maslahah (public interest), darurah (necessity/emergency situations), istihsan (juristic preference), and maqasid al-shariah (objectives of Islamic law) are highly relevant in finding solutions to contemporary challenges. Improving understanding of fiqh principles is very important for building an Islamic legal system that is flexible, logical, and just, so that Islamic law remains relevant without compromising its core principles, and so that people can apply the law ethically and practically in everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reconstruction and repositioning of the mawah (traditional profit-sharing) and gala (traditional pawning) systems through the optimization of digital technology by MSMEs as an economic safety net in Aceh. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a case study and phenomenological approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with micro-economic actors, farmers, and MSME practitioners, alongside field observations and documentation studies. The results indicate that the micro-economic system in Aceh reflects an integration of socio-religious values. While mawah practices still exist as an equity-based social safety net, they are vulnerable to value erosion due to asymmetric information. Conversely, serious challenges are identified in contemporary gala practices, which have distorted into hidden usury (riba khafi) and land exploitation due to long-term fluctuations in gold standards. As a solution, MSME actors reposition these practices through digital storytelling strategies, wrapping local products in ethical supply chain narratives to reconstruct traditional trust into digital content accountability. The conclusion of this study formulates a new conceptual model that integrates local socio-religious values into the contemporary digital ecosystem. This study contributes to the discourse of Islamic distributive justice at the grassroots level by proving that digital infrastructure can be repositioned as a tool for cultural preservation and standardizing inclusive and sustainable micro-customary agreements.

Abstract

The social and economic disparities faced by women in Muslim societies indicate that efforts to achieve gender equality still face significant challenges, including the limited availability of empowerment models based on progressive religious values. This study aims to analyze the role of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah in promoting gender equality based on the principles of Progressive Islam. The study employs a qualitative approach using literature review and document analysis methods, drawing from academic literature, organizational documents, and relevant prior research. Data were analyzed thematically to identify the relationship between the concept of Progressive Islam and women’s empowerment practices. The findings reveal that Nasyiatul Aisyiyah’s women’s empowerment initiatives are not merely programmatic interventions but represent a practical translation of Progressive Islam values into community-based empowerment strategies. Through entrepreneurship training, leadership development, and capacity-building programs, the organization promotes women’s agency, self-reliance, and active participation in public life. These initiatives reflect the Progressive Islamic principles of social justice, gender equality, and human empowerment by creating opportunities for women to strengthen their economic independence while simultaneously enhancing their role in decision-making processes within families and communities. This empowerment model demonstrates that Progressive Islam functions not only as a normative framework but also as an operational strategy that integrates religious values with efforts to transform gender relations and expand women’s social participation. These findings affirm that the integration of Progressive Islam values with contextual and participatory empowerment strategies constitutes an effective model for advancing women’s equality within Muslim societies. Furthermore, the study contributes to reinforcing a paradigm of women’s empowerment grounded in progressive Islamic values, while also offering a conceptual contribution to the development of Progressive Islam studies regarding gender equality issues.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of childless living among millennial couples in Pidie Jaya Regency, a region characterised by strong Islamic and Acehnese cultural values. The research aims to analyse how financial literacy and career ambitions influence couples’ decisions to remain childless, using Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah as a critical analytical framework. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with ten selected millennial couples. Empirical findings indicate that financial literacy and career aspirations contribute to a risk-mitigation approach to family planning among the informants. Rather than signifying a total paradigm shift in society, this phenomenon reflects micro-level adaptation by specific couples facing the complexities of the modern economy. Analysed through Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah, the findings reveal a dynamic tension between the traditional priority of ḥifẓ al-nasl (preservation of lineage) and the couples’ direct focus on ḥifẓ al-māl (protection of property) and ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of life/mental well-being). This study concludes that the decision not to have children among these particular couples constitutes a renegotiation of individual family planning, driven by financial and psychological readiness. This research contributes to sociological studies of Islamic family law by providing empirical evidence of how traditional theological narratives are critically navigated by the millennial generation in semi-rural societies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze a husband's obligation to provide financial maintenance (nafaqah) to a career wife from the perspective of Dayah Ulama (traditional Islamic scholars) in Pidie Jaya Regency. Amidst social transformation and digitalization, the phenomenon of wives serving as the primary breadwinners has become increasingly prevalent across several sub-districts, namely Meureudu, Meurah Dua, Bandar Baru, and Trienggadeng. Sociological realities indicate a degradation of marital responsibility among husbands, who tend to be negligent and spend excessive time in informal spaces such as coffee shops, thereby shifting both domestic and financial burdens onto the wives. Data gathered through in-depth interviews with key Dayah Ulama figures demonstrate that providing financial maintenance remains the absolute responsibility of the husband as an individual obligation (fardhu 'ayn), irrespective of the wife's economic status. A wife’s status as a career woman does not annul her right to maintenance, as it constitutes a legal consequence ('iwadh) of the marriage contract. The Dayah Ulama perceive the wife's financial contribution not as a mandatory obligation, but as a form of voluntary assistance (tabarru') that holds spiritual merit ('ibadah). Conversely, pursuing a career does not grant an automatic dispensation for a wife to neglect her domestic duties and childcare. The scholars emphasize the urgency of revitalizing the concepts of mu'asharah bil ma'ruf (kind companionship) and ta'awun (mutual assistance) within the household. As a theological solution, this study proposes a relational model wherein the husband maintains his role as the primary protector, while the wife functions as an honorable domestic manager. This model serves to preserve family stability in the modern era in accordance with the principles of Maqasid al-Shari'ah.

Abstract

Religious radicalism in dayah educational institutions is a serious challenge to social stability and national ideology in Aceh Tamiang. This study analyzes local government policies in disciplining radicalism in dayah educational institutions using a qualitative approach with case studies. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model. Michel Foucault's theoretical framework of disciplinary power is used to understand the mechanisms of supervision, normalization, and reward and punishment systems. the epistemological repercussions of state-led deradicalization, suggesting that the disciplinary mechanisms of surveillance and curriculum standardization may engender a nascent knowledge regime, thereby systematically homogenizing religious interpretations. Preliminary findings indicate that such an approach appears effective in mitigating the escalation of radicalism, ostensibly avoiding overt social conflict. This research contributes to the development of inclusive, moderate, and nationally oriented dayah education policies

Abstract

This research is motivated by the high economic contribution of the palm oil plantation sector in Indonesia and Aceh Province, which empirically triggers contemporary legal debate due to the absence of explicit mention of the commodity in classical religious texts. The purpose of this research is to analyze the foundations of contemporary fiqh, compare technical provisions (nishab, haul, and kadar), and examine the theoretical and practical implications of the dualism of fatwa between the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Aceh Ulema Consultative Assembly (MPU). The method used is a normative Islamic legal research with a qualitative approach based on library research through content analysis and comparative analysis techniques. Primary data sources come from MUI Fatwa Number 3 of 2003 and MPU Aceh Fatwa Number 9 of 2013, supported by secondary data in the form of zakat fiqh literature, scientific journals, and official statistical data. The main findings of this research explore the epistemological dialectic between the Shafi'i school of thought approach based on illat al-qut wa al-iddikhar and contextual reasoning based on illat al-nama' wa al-kasb. The theoretical significance of this competing paradigm enriches contemporary Islamic legal studies in reconstructing the dynamic economic functionality of public property. The formulation of a harmonization model for palm oil zakat offers a significant contribution by separating the management of small-scale community palm oil plantations from corporate palm oil. Regular integration of this model into the technical regulations of Baitul Mal Aceh and BAZNAS has the potential to support efforts to bridge differences in the fatwa authority, provide alternative legal certainty for zakat payers, and optimize the sustainable distribution of wealth for mustahik (recipients of zakat).

Abstract

The rapid expansion of social media has significantly transformed the production, circulation, and legitimation of religious discourse in contemporary society. In Indonesia, one notable phenomenon is the growing influence of digital content creators in reshaping public perceptions of superstition, black magic, shamanism, and other supernatural practices. This study aims to analyze the transformation of religious authority in the digital era through the anti-superstition campaigns of Ferry Irwandi and Dzawin Nur. This research employs a qualitative approach by combining descriptive-analytical and empirical juridical methods. Data were collected from YouTube content, digital audience responses, legal documents, and relevant academic literature. The analysis integrates Theodor Adorno’s Critical Theory, Heidi Campbell’s Digital Religion, and Stig Hjarvard’s Mediatization of Religion. The findings reveal that Ferry Irwandi and Dzawin Nur do not merely expose shamanistic practices empirically; they represent the emergence of new religious authorities operating outside conventional religious institutions. Their authority is not derived primarily from formal religious credentials but from their ability to manage algorithmic visibility, audience engagement, and digital trust. This study contributes to digital religion scholarship by demonstrating that religious authority in contemporary Indonesia is increasingly shaped by algorithmic logic and platform culture, where interpretive legitimacy depends not only on scholarly authority but also on communicative effectiveness within digital ecosystems.
