Abstract

SDGs Desa is an integrated effort for global development in the economic, social, environmental, legal and community governance fields at the village level. Village SDGs are derived from the national SDGs targets in 18 development areas. The Village SDGs aim to accelerate the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals by including simplification of goals, localization of targets in villages, and alignment of target indicators. This paper aims to analyze the progress of achieving the SDGs Desa in South Sulawesi, so as to provide an overview of each target that must be improved and maintained. The method used is descriptive quantitative by takin SDGs Desa data for all villages in South Sulawesi, on the website sid.kemendesa.go.id. The results of the study show that in general, South Sulawesi's SDGs Desa fall into the low category with a value of 46.66. Only 1 target is included in the high category, 7 targets are included in the medium category and 10 targets are included in the low category. Thus, the progress of increasing SDGs Desa in South Sulawesi needs to be a concern of the government to immediately improve.

Abstract

The zero waste movement has become a global concern in an effort to overcome or reduce environmental problems, especially waste. With this problem, youth or students are one of the main forces in leading the zero waste movement. This research was conducted to examine the implementation of the role of youth in leading the zero waste movement through community approaches, education, and social action to encourage environmentally friendly practices. The research method used is descriptive analysis by collecting data and obtained directly from the object under study from the community, student groups, field observations and the media. The results showed that the role of youth is very effective in mobilizing and sensitizing the community to participate in the zero waste movement through various ways and various activities. However, things that still need to be overcome are such as lack of public awareness, lack of government support and role, and limited resources. Therefore, awareness and joint efforts from various parties are needed to support the role of youth in carrying out the zero waste movement which is useful for creating a clean environment and future life.

Polemics from all fields continue to be material, especially the environmental sector. In explaining the resolution of this polemic, the theory of neoliberalism is one of our analytical frameworks which will become our basis for argumentation. In this article we discuss infrastructure governance, governance, green areas, technology, land rehabilitation, deforestation control, and agro forest re-development. We collected some accurate data from various sources and made the IKN masterplan designed by bappenas the main topic of our article. In the end, the Indonesian people will be able to assess the importance of this issue and have a broad insight into the environmental sector in the IKN Nusantara.

Abstract

The use of sexual violence as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has become one of the most widespread and destructive forms of gender-based violence. This article explores why sexual violence is used so extensively in the DRC. Using Jacqui True’s feminist perspective within a structural violence framework, it examines three main factors: gender norms and patriarchal structures, weak legal frameworks, and socio-economic disparities. A case study of the DRC shows how these factors work together to make sexual violence a strategic tool in war. The authors argue that sexual violence in war is not merely a consequence of conflict but also a symptom of deeper structural inequalities. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of addressing these inequalities to reduce the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and recommends policies focused on gender justice and survivor protection.

Abstract

Environmental pollution is one of the key issues that is a major concern in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One country that remains actively engaged in achieving the SDGs is Nigeria, which continues to face environmental pollution challenges, particularly in the Niger Delta region, where environmental degradation has resulted from oil mining activities by Shell Company. The impact of these mining activities has significantly affected water cleanliness in the Niger Delta, which aligns with SDG Goal 6, focusing on water sanitation. This case study highlights the environmental pollution caused by Shell's oil extraction activities in the Niger Delta and how this has become a major obstacle in achieving SDG Goal 6: "Clean Water and Sanitation", using ecological security theory. By applying ecological security theory, this study demonstrates that environmental degradation not only threatens public health and livelihoods but also exacerbates social injustice and conflict. Through a collaborative and comprehensive approach, this article recommends the active involvement of all stakeholders to achieve SDG Goal 6 in a sustainable manner. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating ecological security principles into efforts for resource recovery and management in Nigeria.

Abstract

This article discusses the role and opportunities for developing the clean energy sector through commercial diplomacy by the Indonesian government. The selection of this issue is based on the untapped potential of clean energy. In addition, the clean energy market at the regional and global levels is potential, considering that countries are still highly dependent on fossil energy. At the same time, Indonesia has a diverse range of clean energy sources. In this case, if the sources is developed well, then it help Indonesia as a key player in the clean energy sector. This paper uses the theory of commercial diplomacy with a focus on trade promotion and advocacy. The analysis shows that multilateral cooperation schemes such as ASEAN, RCEP, and APEC, which also focus on clean energy, have not been fully utilized by the Indonesian government. Furthermore, during the Paris Agreement negotiations, Indonesia did not express its interests, the limitations of clean energy infrastructure, and the availability of financing for the clean energy sector. This has resulted in a significant gap in achieving clean energy targets by 2025, as outlined in the Nationally Determined Contribution document.

Abstract

This article examines the lived experiences of Indonesian temporary migrants in Australia through the lens of human security within the field of international relations. While temporary migration is often framed as a beneficial economic opportunity, in reality, many migrants face legal uncertainty, limited access to basic services, and socio-political exclusion. Employing a qualitative approach and drawing on migrant narratives documented in previous studies, this article illustrates how migration regimes in destination countries place migrants in positions of economic necessity while offering little institutional protection. The insecurities experienced ranging from visa status uncertainty and indirect discrimination to restricted labor rights suggest that current policy frameworks fail to uphold migrants’ dignity and well-being. The article also critiques the lack of intervention by the country of origin, Indonesia, in ensuring the protection of its citizens abroad. Accordingly, this study underscores the importance of state engagement in ensuring that migration is not merely treated as labor export, but as part of the state's responsibility to its citizens in transnational spaces. The contribution of this article lies in its effort to reframe migration as a human security issue and to offer a critical reflection on the need for more just and humane migration governance.

Abstract

This study analyzes how the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) functions as an outcome of limited norm localization in the protection of human rights for the Rohingya ethnic group. Employing Acharya’s (2004) norm localization theory, the study traces the process of adapting global human rights norms into the ASEAN framework, which faces challenges due to the principles of non-interference and state sovereignty among member countries. The findings reveal that although AICHR was established to promote and protect human rights, it faces structural and functional limitations. its consultative mandate, absence of investigative mechanisms, and the dominance of the ASEAN Way, particularly consensus and non-intervention, render AICHR ineffective in responding to the Rohingya crisis. Analysis through the four stages of localization (contestation, local initiative, adaptation, and amplification) indicates that AICHR functions more as a symbolic commitment to human rights within ASEAN rather than as a genuine protective mechanism. The study concludes that without mandate reform and adjustments to ASEAN principles, AICHR will continue to fall short in addressing systematic human rights violations such as those experienced by the Rohingya. This implies the need for a redefinition of global human rights norms that are more contextually grounded in regional values

Abstract

This study analyzes the potential impact of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ) on the development and competitiveness of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Batam. Initiated through a high-level agreement between Malaysia and Singapore, the JSSEZ represents a strategic advancement in regional economic cooperation, aiming to integrate complementary strengths such as land and labor in Johor with Singapore’s financial and technological capital. This paper adopts a systematic literature review method to compare the design, sectoral focus, and investment incentives of JSSEZ with existing SEZs in Batam. The study finds significant overlap in priority sectors, such as electronics manufacturing, digital economy, and logistics, which raises both competitive risks and collaborative opportunities. The analysis highlights that while Batam benefits from geographic proximity to Singapore and a long-established industrial base, it faces challenges in infrastructure, regulatory efficiency, and skilled labor retention. The paper argues that JSSEZ could either intensify competition or open up new synergies depending on policy responses and investment strategies. The study concludes that proactive alignment and regional coordination could transform the perceived competition into a mutually beneficial economic corridor.

Abstract

This paper discusses the potential and dynamics of energy cooperation between Indonesia and Russia following Indonesia’s accession as a full member of BRICS in early 2025. In the context of geopolitical tensions, sanctions against Russia, and Indonesia’s urgent domestic energy needs, the Indonesia-Russia energy partnership is viewed as a rational and strategic move. The study employs a liberalist approach, the theory of complex interdependence, and the Two-Level Games framework to analyze how Indonesia conducts its economic diplomacy with Russia. This research is based on a qualitative method utilizing literature review and secondary data. The findings reveal that Indonesia has succeeded in increasing oil imports from Russia without violating international sanctions, while still maintaining constructive relations with Western countries. Nevertheless, Indonesia continues to face challenges, particularly in relation to its national energy transition and the consistency of its foreign policy amid ongoing geopolitical dynamics. Therefore, the Indonesia–Russia energy cooperation should be directed not only at meeting short-term demands but also as part of a long-term, sustainable energy and diplomatic strategy.
