Abstract

Tlagayasa Village, located in Bobotsari Sub-district, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java, is situated about 30 km from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNSOED. Based on interviews with village officials, a water tourism destination with various attractions is currently being developed. However, despite progress in physical facilities, plans for proper tourism promotional media remain unprepared. The village government, in coordination with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNSOED, identified limited knowledge of promotional strategies and the absence of a digital database as major challenges. To address this issue, village officials requested assistance in developing online promotional media. Considering the rapid advancement of information technology, digital platforms play a crucial role in supporting tourism promotion. Through community service activities, several stages were implemented, including socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The initial stage involved data collection and website development using WordPress, followed by training for BUMDes Tlaga Pesona managers. Mentoring was then conducted to enable them to manage the website independently. Evaluation results showed that the website improved the managers’ digital literacy, sense of ownership, and responsibility for sustainable tourism promotion. This program demonstrates the tangible benefits of academic–community collaboration and provides a replicable model for technology-based tourism development in rural areas.

Abstract

Financial planning education is very important including for Vocational High School (SMK) students to prepare for a better future. This topic was chosen due to students' low awareness of the importance of early financial management, which can lead to financial difficulties in the future. This community service programme aims to increase understanding and practical knowledge of financial planning through interactive and applicable methods, such as seminars, questions and answers, and simple budgeting simulations. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of basic financial concepts, such as saving, managing expenses, and planning small investments. In addition, students were able to develop a more structured and realistic personal budget. The programme succeeded in raising awareness of the importance of financial literacy as a foundation for economic independence. These results confirm that financial planning education at the SMK level can be an important step towards building a financially savvy younger generation.

Abstract

Many school children still have limited knowledge about the safety of snack foods, causing them to choose snacks based on taste without considering the ingredients. To facilitate nutrition education for school children, instructional media in the form of PowerPoint slides were used. The snakes and ladders game method is highly suitable for school-aged students because it is interactive and enjoyable. The aim of this community service activity was to provide education on PJAS (school snacks) safety using the SAH approach (Fresh, Safe, and Hygienic) with the Biopsychosocial model. The method applied was lectures supported by PowerPoint slides. Based on the results of questionnaires regarding students' knowledge about PJAS safety, pre-test and post-test scores were obtained. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The analysis showed an increase in students' knowledge about snack food safety after the intervention. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test resulted in p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant improvement in students' knowledge and attitudes between pre-test and post-test. Thus, PJAS food safety education using the Biopsychosocial model approach was proven effective in improving students' knowledge and attitudes regarding snack food safety.

Abstract

The dynamic development of the education sector requires teachers who are highly motivated and skilled in adapting to technological advancements. One effective strategy for elementary school teachers is to develop engaging, student-centered, and environmentally contextual learning materials. To support this, higher education institutions play a vital role in offering direction, encouragement, and mentoring through community service programs. This initiative aimed to enhance the competencies of teachers at SD Arjowinangun 2 and SDN Polehan 5 in Malang City by equipping them with the skills and independence to write reference books that support classroom learning. The program combined independent mentoring and classical in-school training, implemented over three months, with a two-day intensive session on August 7–8, 2024, followed by post-training mentoring. Teachers received detailed guidance on drafting, structuring, and publishing reference books. Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in active discussions to address challenges in the writing process. As a result, teachers successfully produced reference books tailored to the needs of their students, contributing to the availability of contextual learning resources and the overall improvement of instructional quality in elementary education in SD Arjowinangun 2 and SDN Polehan 5 in Malang City in supporting the learning process.

Abstract

Hilla, located in Central Maluku Regency, boasts a gently sloping to steep topography. Extensive green plantations dominate the region. However, water resources, a primary need for the community and agricultural land, remain an unresolved challenge. This community service activity was conducted to assess the potential of groundwater in the Hilla area and provide a basis for effective management. Therefore, geophysical applications, specifically geoelectricity, were utilized to identify potential rock aquifers for groundwater storage. The potential aquifer, based on 2D resistivity cross-section data from geoelectrical readings, was identified at the second location, at a depth of 10-15 meters, and is thought to be formed by sedimentary limestone. This interpretation offers valuable insights for the Hilla community and local government to explore and utilize groundwater resources in the surrounding area. Another positive impact is that the Hilla area can meet its need for reliable and economical groundwater sources directly within its own region, without requiring supply from nearby areas or cities. This ensures that the local community's daily activities are effectively met.

Abstract

Educational games are one of the most effective innovative learning strategies for building students' understanding and awareness of cultural and environmental issues. This article discusses the representation of cultural values and conservation in Komodo Tangga, an ethnopedagogical educational game developed for elementary school students on Rinca Island, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. The purpose of this activity is to increase children's understanding of the importance of Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) conservation, introduce local cultural values, and instill environmentally friendly behavior through a participatory and contextual approach. The implementation method consists of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities included field observations, interviews with school partners, game trials, student pre-tests and post-tests, as well as discussion and reflection sessions with teachers and local facilitators. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in student understanding after the implementation of the Komodo Tangga game, as indicated by an increase in the average pre-test score from 54.2 to 82.5 on the post-test, covering aspects of local cultural knowledge and understanding of Komodo conservation. These findings confirm that the ethnopedagogical approach through local game media can be a community-based education model that is worth developing in other conservation areas in Indonesia. This game also has the potential to serve as a tool for cultural and environmental diplomacy to support sustainable educational tourism in the Komodo National Park area.

Abstract

Microbial contamination in food can pose a serious threat, as it not only reduces food quality but also directly impacts health, ranging from mild to severe conditions, and can affect people of all ages. Adolescents are vulnerable to food poisoning due to limited knowledge and skills in safe food handling. This community service activity involved partners from SMAN 6 Depok and aimed to address the main problems faced by teenagers, such as limited knowledge about the types of microorganisms that can cause contamination in food. Educating adolescents is crucial, considering that the highest cases of food poisoning occur in this age group, yet education efforts are still rare because most health programs focus on groups directly involved in food processing. The methods used include interactive educational approaches, such as presentations, discussions, and Q&A sessions, as well as laboratory practices to observe microorganisms with the aid of a microscope. The activity also involved administering questionnaires in the form of pre-tests and post-tests to the adolescents. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in knowledge about the types of microorganisms that cause food contamination, from 40% to 96%. This educational program has strong sustainability potential with long-term impacts in the form of increased adolescents’ knowledge and a reduced risk of foodborne diseases.
