Aims Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan purposes to publish original research and reviews articles on tropical veterinary medicine and domesticated animals such as dog, cat, cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, poultry, as well as Indonesian wild life. Scope Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan cover a broad range of research topics in animal production and fundamental aspects of genetics, reproduction, socioeconomic of livestock, nutrition, physiology, and preparation and utilization of animal products. Articles typically report research with beef cattle, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep; however, studies involving other farm animals, aquatic and wildlife species, endangered animals, and laboratory animal species that address fundamental questions related to livestock and companion animal biology will be considered for publication.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of adding various doses of virgin coconut oil to the quality of bali bull spermatozoa during preservation. Semen is accommodated twice a week using an artificial vaginal method from two 3-4 year old bali bull with normal body condition and reproductive organs. Semen with motility> 70%, concentration> 1000 × 106, and abnormality <15% was diluted with Tris-egg yolk (T-KT) diluent added with virgin coconut oil (VCO) at a concentration of: 0% (T0), 2 % (T1), 4% (T2), and 6% (T3). The diluted semen was stored at 3-5ᶱC. Evaluated every 24 hours for motility, viability, abnormalities and vitality of spermatozoa up to a motility of at least 40%. The results showed that semen diluted with T-EY with 6% VCO (T3) had a higher quality (P <0.05) compared to the other three treatments, with motility reaching (43.10 ± 2 , 83%), viability (48.68 ± 1.59%), abnormalities (5.92 ± 0.90%) and survival (6.00 ± 0.00 days). The conclusion of this study is the addition of 6% virgin coconut oil in Tris-egg yolk diluent is more effective in maintaining the quality of bali cattle liquid semen.

Abstract

The present study aimed to determine the effect of concentrate base cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L) substituting corn meal on in vitro nutrient digestibility and rumen parameter. This study was conducted in the laboratory of feed chemistry Faculty of animals Husbandry University of Nusa Cendana. The experiment was subjected to a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The tested treatments were: MC0 = concentrate containing 100% corn meal without cherry leaf meal; MC20 = concentrate containing 80% corn meal + 20% cherry leaf meal; MC40 = concentrate containing 60% corn meal + 40% cherry leaf meal; MC60 = concentrate containing 40% corn meal + 60% cherry leaf meal. The result showed that corn replacement by muntingia calabura leaves meal in concentrate feed decrease nutrient digestibility. In contrary the rumen parameter had increase value. Statistical analysis showed that the the parameter measured was very high depend on the Muntingia leaves meal utilization. As a conclusion that Muntingia calabura leaves can be used as corn substitution up to 20%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect ofsupplemented mixed silage of sorghum-Clitoriaternatea with different levels of concentrate containing ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu Isoleusinate on rumen fermentation of kacang goats. Twelve buck kacang goats aged 12-14 months with initial body weight ranged 11-19 kg andthe average was 14,40 kg while 14,93% coefficient of variation was used in this reseach. Methode used was experiment methode with block randomized design as research design consist of four treatments and three replication. The treatmenten were T1 = mixed silage of sorghum-Clitoriaternatea providing, T1, T2 and T3 was T1 supplemen by concentrate with level of 10, 20 and 30 % containing of 150 mg ZnSO4 and 2% Zn-Cu Isoleusinat respectively. Parameter measured was rumen pH value, NH3 and total of VFA concentration. The data obtained was analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Least Significant Different test. The results of statistical analysis showed that supplementation with various levels of concentrates containing 150 mg ZnSO4 and 2% Zn-Cu Isoleucine had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on rumen pH and NH3 concentration, while significantly efect (P <0.05) on VFA totalt. It can be concluded that supplementation with various concentrates containing ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu Isoleucicate produced relatively the same pH and NH3 and VFA tended to increase, with the best concentration of concentrate supplementation at 30%.

Abstract

The structure and role of each specific institution in the supply chain management of local cattle marketing need to be known in detail and comprehensively. The objectives were: 1) to describe the various institutional roles in the supply chain management of livestock and beef in Kupang District and Kupang City, NTT; and 2) to formulate efforts to improve the institutional performance of the livestock and beef supply chain in Kupang District, NTT. Surveys of institutions related to supply chain management of beef cattle in a comprehensive manner, covering all stakeholders (farmers, livestock traders, butchers, meat traders, animal markets, slaughterhouses, animal quarantine, sea freight expeditions, etc.). Data were analyzed descriptively- qualitatively and quantitatively, analysis of costs , benefits and margin of each marketing actor. As conclusions were: 1) The role of institutions in the supply chain management of cattle / beef in Kupang Regency is slowly starting to form a solid network according to the roles of the parties. However, they still have problems in terms of smooth communication and interaction in transactions at each point of the supply chain, especially the point between farmers and village traders regarding price determination; and 2) the institutional performance of cattle/ beef supply chain as a whole to ensure the interests of all stakeholders not optimal yet, in particular related to improve the group transaction methods, benchmark prices, controlling the sale of young females, preventing the slaughter of productive females, strict quarantine, and the availability of large capacity livestock vessels.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding various doses of carrot juice into citrate-egg yolk diluents (C-EY) on bligon buck semen quality. Semen was collected twice a week using an artificial vaginal method of three buck with normal body condition and reproductive organs. Semen was 70% of motility, konsentration ≥1000x106mL and abnormality ≤ 15 diluted with C-EY added with carrot juice at a concentrations: 0% (CJ-0), 10% (CJ-10), 12.5% (CJ-12,5), 15% (CJ-15), 17.5% (CJ-17,5), and 20% (CJ-20), and stored in a refrigerator at 3-5o C. The quality of spermatozoa was evaluated every 24 hours. The Variables measured were spermatozoa motility, viability, and abnormalities. The results showed that spermatozoa preserved by C-EY supplemented by 17.5% carrot juice (CJ-17.5) had a higher quality (P<0.05) compared to the other four treatments, with motility (49.04 ± 1.0%), viability (55.70 ± 1.22%), dan abnormalities (4.57 ± 0.88 %) on the 4th day of storage. This study concludes that 17.5% carrot juice into citrate eggyolk extender improves the bligon buck semen

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate replacement of soybean meal with corn mixed urea gelatinize product in concentrate as supplement of goats that supress nitrogen excretion and increase N metabolism. Sixteen Kacang goats (12.839±0.49 kg of live weight) were used in Completely randomized design with four treatments and four replication. The animals were randomly allocated to receive one of the following experiment diets Gliricidia + concentrate with ratio of soybean meal and product of gelatinize mixed corn-urea that: 1) 100:0 (P0), 2) 75:25 (P1), 3) 50:50 (P2) and 4) 25:75 (P3). Ration were formulated to contain 12% CP with ratio 60 % gliricidia and 40% concentrates. The result showed that total dry matter intake was significantly influenced of treatments and average of DMI each treatment was, P2 (467.99±2.19 g/h/d), P1 (441.20±2.10 g/h/d), P0 (440.08±2.29 g/h/d) and P3 (430.43±6.11 g/h/d). Dry matter and crude protein digestibility from each treatment was, P2 (76.45±0.39% and 80.63±0.37%), P1 (67.85±0.24% and 70.10±0.18%), P0 (67.85±0.74% and 70.68±0.42%) and P3 (60.62±0.41% and 61.96±0.69%). Treatment P2 highest than other treatments. Nitrogen retention and biological value significantly influenced of the treatment. Excretion of feces and urine lowest at P2 than P1, P0 and P3. N consumption, Total N Excretion and N digested not significantly influenced of the treatment but P2 better of other treatment. It could be concluded that 50% replacement soybean meal by product gelatinize of mixed corn-urea in concentrate has positive effects on nitrogen metabolism of Kacang goats.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using flour taro as a substitution of tapioca on organoleptic quality of cooked pork sausage. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications was used in this experiment. The treatment consisted of TK0 = without addition of taro flour (Control), TK50 = Use of tapioca flour 50% + flour 50%, TK75 = Use of tapioca flour 25% + flour 75%, and TK100 = Flour 100% (tapioca 0 %). The results showed that using of flour taro was highly significant (P<0.01) influenced the color, aroma and taste of pork sausage. As the taro flour increased, the color of sausage changed to brown, reduced the aroma and taste of sausage. To sum up, using taro flour 50%-100% as a substitution of tapioca flour causes the sausage become browner; reduce aroma and taste.

Abstract

This study aimed was to determine the effect of roselle flour extract on pork jerky. Completely randomized design 4 x 3 was used in this experiment The treatment consisted of ER0 = without addition of roselle flour extract, ER4 = 4% (v/w) roselle flour extract, ER8 = roselle flour extract 8% (v/w) and ER12 = roselle flour extract 12%(v/w). The parameters observed were water content, fat oxidation, total bacteria, ph and organoleptic: color, aroma, and taste of park jerky. The result of statistical analysis showed that rosela flour exract on pork jerky had highly significantly effect (P<0.01) on water, fat oxidation, pH and organoleptics: colors, the aroma of pork jerky. The lowest water content was in ER12 (35.86±0.33), the lowest fat oxidation was in the ER12 (9.57±0.70), the lowest pH was in ER4 (4.79±0.05). The best color was found in ER4 (4.86±0.38), the best aroma was found in ER0 (5.00±0.00). In conclusion, increasing of roselle flour extract level causes the decreasing the oxidation fat, reducing the color score ( jerky become brown) and rosela/ sour in aroma.

Abstract

This research aimed to study the effect of feeding silage of kume grass and Pasiflora foetida leaves differing in their ratio on fiber intake and digestibility, rumen VFA and blood glucose concentration of male kacang goats. This study used four male kacang goats with the average body wight of 10,5 kg. This experiment followed a 4x4 Latin Square design with four treatments in four 21-day periods as replications. The treatments were M0 : silage made of 100 % kume grass, M20 : silage made of 80% kume grass + 20% Passiflora foetida, M40 : 60% kume grass + passiflora foetida 40%, M60 : 40% kume grass + 60% Passiflora foetida. Result showed that feeding silage made of different ratio of kume grass and Passiflora foetida leaves did not significantly (P>0,05) affect the length and frequency of eating, the length of rumination period as well as the length and frequency of resting period. Therefore, it can be concluded that inclusion of P. foetida in the silage mix with kume grass up to 60% is considered save as it did not affect the feeding behaviour of Kacang goats.

Abstract

This study aims to were: 1) to know the amount of income farmers in the business of beef cattle in the District Raimanuk. 2) to know the feasibility of beef cattle business in Raimanuk District. Sampling is done through two stages. The first stage is the determination of sample villages conducted by purposive sampling and the second stage is the determination of the respondents who made a simple random. The data were collected using interview technique. The data collected includes primary and secondary data. Primary data obtained from observation and interview, while secondary data obtained from related institutions and literature related to research. The analysis is done by using income analysis and financial analysis. The results showed that the income earned by each cattle rancher amounted to Rp10.318.759/year and the financial investment criteria such as NPV Rp7. 561.847, Net B/C 1.96, IRR 23%, and PBP 2.96 years.
