Aims Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan purposes to publish original research and reviews articles on tropical veterinary medicine and domesticated animals such as dog, cat, cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, poultry, as well as Indonesian wild life. Scope Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan cover a broad range of research topics in animal production and fundamental aspects of genetics, reproduction, socioeconomic of livestock, nutrition, physiology, and preparation and utilization of animal products. Articles typically report research with beef cattle, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep; however, studies involving other farm animals, aquatic and wildlife species, endangered animals, and laboratory animal species that address fundamental questions related to livestock and companion animal biology will be considered for publication.

Abstract

The research aimed to know the effect of probiotic and herbs mixtures to performance, carcasses and physical quality of broiler meat. One hundred DOC broiler of Lohmann Platinum MB 202 strain unsex were randomly and equaly ( 5 birds) distributed to 20 groups (cages). Each cages consists of 5 broilers. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely P0 is the control (without a mixture of probiotics and herbs); P1 is given a mixture of probiotics and herbs as much as 1.0 ml/litre of drinking water; P2 is given a mixture of probiotics and herbs as much as 1.5 ml/litre of drinking water; and P3 is given a mixture of probiotics and herbs as much as 2.0 ml/litre of drinking water. Broilers is kept for 30 days. The measured variables included performance (feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion), carcasses (weight and percentage of carcass), and physical quality of meat (water holding capacity and cooking losses). The results showed that of probiotics and herbs mixture in broiler drinking water had not been able to improve the performance and carcasses (P> 0.05), but at 1.5 ml /litre drinking water improved the physical quality of meat due to increased water holding capacity and decreased cooking losses (P <0.01). Conclusion, the addition of a mixture of probiotics and herbs in broiler drinking water caused performance and carcass that were not differrent but showed a good pattern on giving of 1.5 ml /litre of drinking water in feed conversion, carcasses and carcass percentages and improved the physical quality of meat (water holding capacity and cooking losses). ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian campuran probiotik dan herbal terhadap penampilan, karkas dan kualitas fisik daging ayam broiler. Seratus ekor DOC broiler strain Lohmann Platinum MB 202 unsex dibagi secara acak dalam 20 kelompok, masing-masing 5 ekor untuk setiap kandang. Setiap 5 kandang yang masing-masing sebagai ulangan digunakan untuk satu perlakuan. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan, yaitu P0 merupakan kontrol(ayam yang tidak mendapatkan campuran probiotik dan herbal); P1 merupakan ayam yang diberi campuran probiotik dan herbal sebanyak 1,0 ml/liter air minum; P2 merupakan ayam yang diberi campuran probiotik dan herbal sebanyak 1,5 ml/liter air minum; dan P3 merupakan ayam yang diberi campuran probiotik dan herbal sebanyak 2,0 ml/liter air minum. Ayam dipelihara selama 30 hari. Peubah yang diukur meliputi penampilan (konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan, konversi pakan), karkas (bobot dan persentase karkas), dan kualitas fisik daging (daya ikat air dan susut masak). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian campuran probiotik dan herbal dalam air minum ayam broiler belum mampu memperbaiki penampilan dan karkas (P>0,05), namun pada pemberian 1,5 ml/liter air minum memperbaiki kualitas fisik daging karena meningkatkan daya ikat air dan menurunkan susut masak (P<0,01). Kesimpulan, penambahan campuran probiotik dan herbal dalam air minum ayam broiler menyebabkan penampilan dan karkas yang tidak berbeda, namun menunjukkan pola yang baik pada pemberian 1,5 ml/liter air minum pada konversi pakan, karkas dan persentase karkas serta memperbaiki kualitas fisik daging (daya ikat air dan susut masak).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving pituitary extract (EH) and probiotics ABG-O on piglets crossing to increase weaning weight, linear size of body and blood metabolites. The research material was a crossbred of landrace and duroc aged 2 weeks, as many as 24 birds. The experimental design was a completely randomized design with three treatments and eight replications. The three treatments are P0 (control), P1 (EH injection 1 mL), and P2 (injection EH 1 mL + probiotic ABG-O 2 mL). EH injections are carried out every 5 days and administration of probiotics is given orally using spoit every day until the piglets are weaned. The parameters observed were weight gain, linear size of body and blood metabolites. This data was analyzed by ANOVA and continued with Duncan test. The results of this study indicate that the average daily weight gain of crossbred piglets in treatments P0, P1, and P2 are 0.11; 0.13; 016 kg, body length (0.40; 0.45; 0.44 cm), chest circumference (0.29; 0.27; 0,30 cm), and shoulder height (0.25; 0.24; 0.25 cm). Blood glucose levels (117.31; 112.85; 117.25) and total plasma protein (4.60; 4.90; 4.80). The results of the statistical analysis showed that the EH and ABG probiotic treatments affected the UN (P<0.05) but did not affect (P> 0.05) the size of the linear body and blood metabolites. It can be concluded that the administration of pituitary extracts and ABG probiotics can increase the weaning weight but does not affect the linear size of the body blood metabolites and total protein plasma of crossing piglets.

Abstract

Pig farmers in rural areas generally use agricultural by product from crops and horticulture as animal feed. A survey focused on pig household scale business was carried out with the aims were to: 1) analize the income of pig household scale farmers; 2) analize the factors that influence the cash income of pig household scale farmers; and 3) analize the efficiency of using production factors in pig household scale business. Sampling is done in two stages manner. The first, to determine three sample villages purposively. The second, determining 20 pig farmers in each selected village by applying non-proportional random sampling in order to obtain 60 representative respondents. Data were analyzed using a descriptive method approach and continued with income analysis, correlation-regression analysis and analysis of efficiency. The results showed that the total income obtained was IDR 30,924,132/year where 59.74% was cash income. The results of statistical analysis show that the factors that influence the cash income of farmers are the number of pigs raised and the cost of feed (P <0.05) while the capital and cost of pens and equipment have no significant effect on household cash income (P> 0.05). The results of efficiency analysis indicate that technically, the use of production factors in pig household scale business in East Ende District is efficient but economically has not been achieved. Therefore it is necessary to reorganize the business through efforts of increasing the number of pigs raised, ceteris paribus other factors.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to know the relationship between the the weight and body measurements at age of 12 weeks of crossbreds of three chicken types that were broiler, kate and sabu chicken. The relationship of body weight with the body measurements was used as a consideration for selecting the body weight. The research material was 30 tails of crossbreds with genotype composition was ½ broiler 1/4 kate ¼ sabu chicken. The method of research was experiment and directly weighting and measuring of the body measuremens. All chickens were given freely the same food and waters. The observed parameters were body weight, backbone length, chest circumference, shank circumference and wing span. Data was analized using the correlation analysis. Research results showed that the koefisien of correlation between chest circumference, backbone length, shank length and wing span with body weight were 0.62; 0.32; 031 and 0.20. Correlations between body weight and body measurements of chicken crossbreds with genotype composision ½ broiler ¼ kate ¼ sabu were positive.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect subsitutional of corn fodder on intake and fiber digestibility, volatile fatty acid and blood glucose concentration of weaned Ongole x Brahman calves. This experiment followed a 4x4 latin square design with four treatments, i.e. G : 100% nature grass silage, GCF1 : 35% nature grass silage, 35% corn fodder silage and 30% concentrate, GCF2 : 17,5% nature grass silage, 52,5% corn fodder and 30% concentrate, GCF3 : 70% corn fodder and 30% concentrate. The measured variables included fiber intake and digestibility, volatile fatty acid and blood glucose concentration. Data were subjected to Analysis of Variance (Anova) followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test to separate between means with SPSS 21. Result showed that fiber intake was significantly (P<0.05) lower in GCF3 (299,88 g.d-1) compared to the other treatments which varied between 661,55 to 1293,95 g.d-1. Fiber digestibility, however, did not differ (P>0.05) between treatments, i.e. varied between 55,95 to 72,65%. Volatile Fatty Acid concentration increased (P<0.05) with the increasing levels substitutions of corn fodder in feed. The treatments did not affect (P>0.05) blood glucose concentration of Ongole calves. It can be concluded that substitution of corn fodder for native grass silage has significant effect on fiber intake and Volatile Fatty Acid concentration but not on fiber digestibility and blood glucose concentration of weaned cross Ongole calves.

Abstract

Grassland area must be managed and record existing condition doe to as a source of cheapest feed and easy to find out. The aim of this study was to measure production, botanical composition and carrying capacity of forage in native grassland area at early dry season. This study was carried out in Maubokul village, Pandawai sub district, district of East Sumba. Forage production measured by actual weight estimate method with 1m x 1m of frame as tool utilization. Data collected than analyzed to find out production, botanical composition and carrying capacity of forage in native grassland. Statistical analysis showed that the value of Summed Dominance Ratio (SDR) was 84.4% for grass, 15.6% for legume and 0% for weeds. Dry matter production was 1.866,8 kg/ha with carrying capacity value was 1.05AU/Ha/year. As a conclusion that grassland area at Maubokul village was dominated of grass and carrying capacity was high.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determined the effect of lemongrass powder as a natural antibiotic on intake and digestibility of DM, OM, CP and TDN of females Kacang goat fed hay Kume grass. Four female kacang goats with 6-10 months old and initial body weight of 10 kg was used. Experiment research method was used with latin square design 4x4 as reseach design. The treatments, i.e. 70% hay + 30% concentrate + lemongrass powder with different levels, 70% hay kume grass + 30% concentrate + S0, S0 + 10gr lemongrass powder = S10; S0 + 20gr lemongrass powder = S20; S0 + 30gr lemongrass powder = S30; Data was analysed used anova and the data showed significant was tasted with Duncan. The variabels measured were intake and digestibility dry matter, organic matter, crude protein and total digestible nutrient. The result showed that lemon grass powder providing as concentrate component was followed by increase of dry and organic matter consumption, crude protein consumption and digestibility, while digestibility of dry and organic matter and true digestible nutrient was decrease. Statistical analysis showed that the treatment had significant effect (P<0,05) on crude protein digestibility, while no significant effect (P>0,05) on intake and digestibility of dry and organic matter, crude protein consumtion and total diigestble nutrient. It can be concluded that lemon grass powder providing with different levels had the same effect on consumption and digestibility of nutrients except digestibility value of crude protein.

Abstract

Aim of this study was to evaluate quality of se’i (Rotennese smoke meat) made from cull Bali cow meat. Completely randomized design 3x3 was used in this study. Meat taken from cull Bali cow with body condition skore (BCS) 2 (thin), 3 (moderate) and 4 (slightly fat). Each BCS had three replicates. Parameters observed included taste, color, aroma, pH value and fat oxidation. The results showed that BCS had a highly significant effect (P <0.01) on color and taste, had a significant effect (P <0.05) on fat oxidation, had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on aroma and pH. Se,i made from BCS 4 had a slightly dark red color, the best taste and the highest fat oxidation rate, whereas se'i prepared from BCS 3 has a slightly dark red color, medium taste and lowest fat oxidation rate. It is concluded that the best quality of se’i produced in this study was made from BCS 4,however, it was necessary to add antioxidants to retard fat oxidation rate. Whereas if used BCS 3 it is better to add some additives to improve the taste.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of providing fermented gliciridia fallen leaf and banana stem in complete feed with different level on crude fiber intake and digestibility, intake of digestible crude fiber, VFA concentration and blood glucose levels of kacang goat. This study used 4 male goats with age under one year, average body weight of 10.5 kg. The research used latin square design with 4 periods and 4 treatments, which consisted of P70S0, P40S30, P30S40, P0S70. The parameters observed were crude fiber intake and digestibility, intake of digestible crude fiber, VFA concentration and blood glucose levels. The results showed that the provision of complete gliciridia fallen leaf and banana stems with different level had no significant difference (P> 0.05) on crude fiber intake and digestibility, ingested digestive fiber consumption, blood glucose concentrations. However, feeding goats with a complete feed of gliciridia fallen leaf and banana stems with different levels had significantly increased ​​(P <0.01) VFA concentration. Therefore, it can be concluded that providing goats with fermented complete feed of gliciridia fallen leaf and banana stem did not increase the value of crude fiber consumption and digestibility, consumption of undigested crude fiber and blood glucose levels but was able to increase VFA concentration

Abstract

This research aim was to know reproduction performances at birth and weaning age of the sows which were mated with Duroc and Landrace studs. The research was carried out in two breeding farms namely the Instalation of Pig Breeding, the village of Tarus, Kupang Regency and the Manise Pig Farm, Village of Oetete, Kupang City. There were two breeds of studs namely breed of Landrace and Duroc which each stud was mated to 15 breeding pigs. The method used in this research was a survey and the samples were collected purposively. Data collection were obtained when the piglets were born and weaned. The variables were the litter size and body weight at birth age and the liter size and body weight at weaning age. The data obtained was analysed using the t test (t-test). The results showed that the characters of birth litersize,birth body weight, weaning litter size and weaning weight for Duroc stud were 10.60±2.41 head, 1.95±0.18 kg/head; 10.00±2.02 head and 5.98±0.65kg/head, respectively and those charackters for Landarace stud were 9.06±2.09head, 1.98 ±0.22 kg/head; 8.93± 2.23 head and 6.20±0.28 kg/head, respectively. Results of statistical analysed showed that Duroc and Landrace studs did not effect significantly (P>0.5) for those charackters. Reproduction performances of sows that were mated with Duroc and Landrace studs for characters of birth liter size, birth weight, weaning liter size and weaning weight were relatively similar.
