Abstract

This community service activity is expected to be able to make a real contribution to solving problems that exist in the community, as well as bring the roles and functions of universities closer to the community. Community Service aimed to build an Electrocoagulation Model Using Aluminum Electrodes 20 cm apart at a voltage of 20 Volts, a current of 10 Ampere system back with a contact time of 60 minutes. The Community Service method was through organizing activities and dividing work groups so that all work was evenly distributed. The results of Community Service activities were in the form of an Electrocoagulation Model Building Using Aluminum Electrodes 20 cm apart at a voltage of 20 Volts, a current of 10 Ampere Batch System with a contact time of 60 minutes, the connection of treated wastewater to the Electrocoagulation Model to the sewerage (effluent) and understanding of the operation, performance, maintenance and importance of utilizing wastewater treatment products containing Lead (Pb) for filling fish ponds and watering gardens. It was recommended that the Electrocoagulation Model Using 20 cm Aluminum Electrodes with 20 Volts and a strong current of 10 Ampere used with a contact time of 60 minutes, the power source must be turned off when the electrocoagulation reactor is not in use and the treated water can be used to gardens, yards, and fish pond.

Abstract

Gunung Tinggi Health Center is located in Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, where Hypertension was ranked 3rd of the 10 most common diseases in 2021. There are 2 working areas of the Gunung Tinggi Public Health Center which are still experiencing hypertension, including Sembahe Baru and Baru Village. The purpose of this activity was to increase knowledge about interventions to control blood pressure specifically through progressive muscle relaxation training accompanied by classical music, reducing stress and blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This community service used lecture, question and answer, demonstration and red-demonstration methods of providing interventions to control blood pressure through progressive muscle relaxation training accompanied by classical music, with a target of 60 hypertensive patients, carried out in two villages in the working area of the Gunung Tinggi Health Center including Sembahe Baru Village and Baru Village each of 30 participants. The activities carried out included a pre-test for measuring knowledge, blood pressure and stress, followed by the provision of progressive muscle relaxation training interventions accompanied by classical music and ended with a post-test using the same questionnaire and tools. The results showed an increase in knowledge score of 25.58%, a decrease in stress of 33.94% and a decrease in systolic of 10.72 mmHg and a diastolic of 5.18 mmHg. Progressive muscle relaxation training intervention accompanied by classical music provides benefits in controlling stress, blood pressure and increasing knowledge.

Abstract

Water pollution causes environmental damage and is very detrimental to living things. This activity aims to improve the performance of the Wastewater Management Installation (WWTP) which functions to reduce pollutant levels in the waters. Through the collaboration of the UMSU Faculty of Engineering with PT. Waruna Shipyrad Indonesia (WSI), collaboration was also carried out to improve the performance of the wastewater management system. Wastewater management methods are carried out by applying skimming machine technology, and several sensors for the physical properties and composition of water, as well as using remediation of good bacteria from the laboratory. 6 WWTP ponds were implemented, each with dimensions of 3.7x2.8x2.17 m. The skimming machine is designed to use a drum, and the bacteria from the remediation process will suppress the growth of bacteria that damage the environment. The volume of water entering the reservoir is around 207,200 kg/m3 perweek or 207.2 Liters/week. The results of applying this technology obtained an average amount of oil taken every 2 days reaching 600 mL. The average water quality is 6-8 with a pH standard of 6-9, a COD value of 47.8 mg/L with a quality standard of 100 mg/L, and a BOD value of 21.1 mg/L with a quality standard of 30 mg/L.

Abstract

The immune system greatly influences the increasing positive cases and death of Covid 19. In order to increase public knowledge about the use of herbal plants as a booster for the immune system, the Pharmacy Study Program at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia was holding activities for community dedication by providing education about the potential of Sambiloto leaves in preventing Covid-19 infection. This education was aimed at social media users, given a seven-minute video shared on Youtube. The video link was shared through social media Instagram, WhatsApp, and Line. The video was uploaded to Youtube on April 18, 2021, then after two weeks, followed by filling out a questionnaire by the viewers using a Google form until May 2, 2021. The results show that 1,929 viewers, 354 likers, and 305 respondents filled out the questionnaire. The questionnaire results also showed that over 90% of respondents increased their knowledge after watching the video and could answer all the questions correctly. Thus, it can be concluded that this educational activity has succeeded in increasing the knowledge of social media users significantly and had a positive impact on changing people's behavior for using sambiloto leaves as immune boosters for the prevention and treatment of covid 19.

Abstract

Stunting is a health problem that is the main focus of all groups. One of the efforts to prevent stunting is by providing balanced nutritional complementary food for toddlers. MPASI Premium is MPASIwhich comes from family food, not ready-to-eat food or certain factory products. Giving premium MPASI is more recommended because it will make it easier for babies to get used to family food which will be consumed at a higher age.Stunting incidents in Sukomulyo Village reached 14.5% or 128 toddlers of the total number of stunting incidents in Pujon District. The results of a survey conducted in June 2022 with village midwives and several cadres stated that 83% of mothers chose to provide instant complementary food (MPASI), because it was more practical and babies ate more voraciously with instant food. Mother's knowledge of essential nutrients in solids is also lacking. The purpose of this service activity is to increase cadre knowledge regarding Premium MPASI. The solutions offered include empowerment, training and mentoring of Posyandu toddler cadres in Sukomulyo village regarding the creation of a Premium MPASI menu variant. The method used is counseling and training in making Premium MPASI products. The results of the activity formed 10 MPASI Premium Companion cadres and there was an increase in the knowledge of the cadres regarding stunting prevention and Premium MPASI.

Abstract

The incidence of unmet need family planning in Indonesia is increasing from year to year. In West Sumatra in 2017 it was 18.54%, still far from the target of reducing unmet need, total  9.91%. The high incidence of unmeet need is caused by a lack of knowledge about contraception, as well as the side effects caused by contraception. The KB village in the city of Padang has only touched 0.12% of couples of childbearing age, which is not optimal in controlling population growth. For this reason, the role of KB Village still needs to be increased through community participation and cross-sectoral integration. The aim of this econduct training and mentoring of family planning cadres in KB Village, Padang City. The method used is the participatory planning method, namely cadre training conducted 2 times pre and post test to ensure the ability of family planning cadres in implementing the program. The practical method is assisting cadres in providing education to PUS. The evaluation is carried out in two stages, namely the evaluation being carried out before the training and after the training. The final evaluation is carried out by holding meetings and evaluations with family planning cadres to find out the obstacles and follow-up plans. The result of this activity was an increase in cadre knowledge of 48.7% after training. There is an increase in the coverage of family planning acceptors in KB villages seen from the reporting of new family planning acceptors.
