The implementation of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) in Indonesia on January, 1st 2010 has been causing pros and cons in public opinions. On one hand, the ACFTA has been considered as a huge opportunity for Indonesia to extend its market. But, on the other hand, ACFTA can put domestic producers to a disadvantage because their products are not yet ready to compete in the free trade area, especially against cheap products from China. However, decisions on ACFTA were taken and are now irreversible. Therefore, the debate on whether or not to support ACFTA should be ended, and instead we should focus on hard work to utilize this opportunity. In fact, Indonesia as a tropical country has many excellent commodities which are able to compete with China, if they were supported by the government. Nevertheless, to compete against China effectively, would require cooperation among civil society, local governments, and the centre government in order that Indonesia can take full benefit of its local autonomy. Keywords: Free Trade Area, Local Autonomy

The Moslem community in Haruku Island has been discriminated since the colonial era. Before the Europeans entered the Moluccas Islands, colonizing and Christianizing most negeri in Central Moluccas, the great negeri of Haruku Island in Uli Hatuhaha consisting of Pelauw, Hulaliuw, Rohomoni, Kailolo and Kabauw were Moslem dominated areas. In the colonial era, the Moslem community in central Moluccas did not enjoy the same access and opportunity as the Christian community to education. This affected the economic, political and social life of Moslem communities until the early days of the Indonesian struggle for Independence. Besides discrimination by the Dutch colonizers, the Moslem community in Haruku Island was also subordinated by other groups (Moslems and Christians). This research studies the identity construction and change occurring in the Moslem community in Pelauw, Haruku Island district, Central Maluku regency. This research observes that the Moslem Maluku community in Pelauw negeri has multiple identities. Identity construction and social change have a dynamic that occur concurrently with particular moments in the social life of the people of Moluccas. Another interesting finding is that religion plays an important role in influencing human mentality and human resources in Pelauw. They construct the current identity of the Pelauw people. Keywords: identity, discrimination, social change

During the periode of 2015, in Indonesia, a number of print newspapers decided to stop publich their printing media and switch to digital. This is also challenging for radio since it could be considered as traditional media such as the printing media. In this article, the authors explain how radio as a traditional mass-media is transformed into a new medium in the digital era. The outline of this paper discusses radio transformation as a new medium in terms of access model that uses the Internet and radio broadcast regulatory changes affect the democratic process in Indonesia. This article argues that throughout those changes, radio has not only adapted to the new technological demands while at the same time transform the media by facing the new technological challenger and access to their audience. However, despite the adaptability of radio towards the digital era, this new media era has brought up the seemingly silencing process of minority voice by the majority. This could be concurred through concept of spiral of slince. This article is a qualitative research that put attention to several processes of adaptation and transformation that radio has gone through since the era of Reformasi in Indonesia.

In popular observation, the relation between language and conflict to date is set aside. However, in various conflicting areas, linguistic conflicts are frequently taking place, for instance the disputes over the use of languages. In relation to identity construction, in a certain state, language policy is the heart of formation of national identity. Due to the important role of language, when language is related to some aspects of human life; language can be politicized as well as cause a conflict. This paper discusses a number of historical evidence about repression upon language due to the conflict , language conflict and national identity. Based on a number of historical evidences, it can be argued that a language can become a victim of conflict due to the assumption that language loyalty can overcome loyalty towards the state. At the same time, language can be utilized as a symbol of struggle in an effort to separate itself from the state. In addition it can also serve as a separating symbol among the conflicting groups t. Language conflict can occur either in monolingual or multilingual communities. d The heterogeneity and the similarity of language can be constructed to maximize language as a symbol of identity in line with socio-political changes accompanying the conflict. Keywords: language conflict, identity, language politisation, language discrimination, language policy
