Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of nature-based art activities and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in optimizing the sensorimotor development of early childhood at Tarbiyatul Islamiyah Playgroup. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a case study design. The research participants consisted of 20 playgroup children aged 3–4 years and their classroom teacher. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of the children's work. The data were analyzed qualitatively using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that nature-based art activities, including threading papaya leaf stalks, modeling with clay, and creating collages from seeds, effectively stimulated hand–eye coordination, fine motor strength, sensory sensitivity, concentration, and children's independence. Supporting factors included the availability of natural materials within the school environment, teachers' creativity, children's enthusiasm, and parental support. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors comprised limited instructional time, differences in children's motor abilities, inadequate facilities, and limited teacher training related to nature-based art activities. The findings confirm that nature-based art activities constitute an innovative and contextual learning strategy that effectively supports the optimization of sensorimotor development in early childhood education.

Abstract

Acceptance of nutritious food among young children is a key element in supporting optimal growth and development. This study aims to investigate children’s food preferences and the impact of environmental factors on healthy eating habits using a literature review method. Data were collected by analyzing scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 from various credible sources, using keywords such as “early childhood food preferences” and “environmental influences on children’s eating habits.” The analysis reveals that children’s food preferences are influenced by various biological factors, such as genetics and sensory development, as well as environmental factors, including parenting practices, media exposure, and the role of educational institutions. Parents who implement healthy eating patterns and provide positive role modeling play a crucial role in shaping children’s eating habits. Meanwhile, early childhood education institutions contribute through engaging and enjoyable nutrition education programs. However, picky eating behavior remains a challenge in establishing healthy dietary patterns. Therefore, a comprehensive approach involving families, schools, and the broader community is necessary to build healthy eating habits from an early age. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing effective and sustainable nutrition interventions for young children.

Abstract

Early childhood is a critical period for brain and cognitive development, which is strongly influenced by nutritional factors. This article aims to examine the role of nutrition in preventing developmental and cognitive problems in young children from a neuroscience perspective. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this study reviewed ten scientific articles from various reliable sources published between 2007 and 2025. The findings indicate that adequate nutritional intake—particularly iron, iodine, omega-3 fatty acids, and B-complex vitamins—has a significant impact on brain structure and function as well as children’s cognitive abilities. Family conditions and dietary diversity also play an important role in neurological development. In addition, interactions between nutrition, physical activity, and gut microbiota emerge as relevant recent findings in supporting brain health. This article concludes that early nutritional interventions should be a primary focus of child health and education policies and must be supported by multisectoral approaches to foster a healthy, intelligent, and productive generation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of teachers in the implementation of STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). The method employed was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 15 national journal articles published between 2021 and 2025, obtained through Google Scholar and selected based on inclusion criteria and research objectives. The results of the analysis indicate that teachers play a central role as facilitators, mediators, and designers of STEAM learning, which is capable of enhancing 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration in children. However, several challenges remain, including an incomplete understanding of the STEAM concept, limited facilities and infrastructure, and minimal integration of Islamic values in learning practices. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening teacher capacity through training, innovative learning strategies, and policy support to optimize value-based STEAM implementation in order to shape children’s character from an early age.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of video media in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning for early childhood students at PAUD Gondanglegi. The background of this research lies in the challenge of conveying religious concepts in a concrete and enjoyable way for young learners. The research employed classroom action research (CAR) in two cycles involving 20 children aged 4–5 years. Data collection instruments included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed a 45% increase in religious concept comprehension after using Islamic animated video media. Children were more enthusiastic, focused, and able to imitate prayers and behaviors presented in the videos. It is concluded that video media is effective in enhancing children's understanding and active participation in PAI learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the diverse perspectives of education experts on the Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum through a literature review approach. The analysis focuses on variations in curriculum approaches shaped by the philosophical backgrounds and sociocultural contexts of each figure. This study employed a qualitative method, using documentation techniques as the primary tool for data collection. The findings indicate that each expert contributes differently to the development of the ECE curriculum. Montessori emphasizes children’s freedom within a structured framework; Ashton-Warner prioritizes experience and local culture; Pratt foregrounds constructive play; Kamii and DeVries focus on constructivism-based exploration; Bereiter supports flexible, interest-based learning; while Engelmann proposes a systematic instructional approach. These findings suggest that the ECE curriculum should be designed contextually and comprehensively by considering children’s individual developmental needs. This study recommends integrating theory and practice as a foundation for developing an ECE curriculum that is relevant and adaptable to various educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the management of funds in PAUD institutions from a managerial perspective. The method used is a literature study from various relevant sources over the past ten years. The results of the study indicate that the main sources of funds come from the government and the community, but limited funds and uneven distribution are the main obstacles. The principles of transparency, accountability, and effectiveness and efficiency must be applied in fund management so that the sustainability and quality of PAUD services can be maintained. The implementation of an open reporting system and stakeholder participation are also important to improve financial management performance. This study is expected to provide benefits for PAUD managers and can be used as a reference in developing more effective and sustainable fund management policies to improve the quality of early childhood education.

Abstract

This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted with 14 children in Group B2 at TK Sosial Wagola. The intervention was implemented in two cycles, each consisting of four learning sessions. The success of the study was indicated by an improvement in children’s ability to recognize basic science concepts through the application of an exploration method using materials available in the surrounding environment, as well as increased children’s participation in learning activities. The results showed a significant improvement in children’s basic science recognition abilities, increasing from an average of 13% in the pre-action stage to 74% in Cycle I and reaching 93% in Cycle II. Introducing basic science from an early age is crucial as it fosters curiosity and develops children’s critical and logical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between career interests of PGPAUD students with the relevance of the study program and the real situation in the workplace. This research is based on the misalignment between the study program taken and the career that will be chosen by some PGPAUD students, while the compatibility between the two is an important factor related to preparing superior and quality graduates in the field of early childhood education. This study uses quantitative methods with a descriptive correlational approach. The research sample was 36 PGPAUD students of Semarang State University Class of 2021, which was determined through a total sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using an online-based questionnaire with a Likert scale, which included three main variables, namely PGPAUD students' career interest (X1), career reality (X2), and study program suitability (Y). More than 50% of students gave positive responses regarding their interest in pursuing a career in PAUD. In addition, the results showed a strong relevance between variables.
