Abstract

The calculation of the added value of using a foaming agent based on sodium lauric and potassium palmitate for palm oil as a peatland fire suppression needs to be studied. This was to determine prospects for further development because it is predicted that peatland fires will continue to recur every year during the dry season. The Hayami method used to analyze the added value of sodium lauric and potassium palmitate as the primary raw materials for foaming agents. The results showed that the production of foaming agents for peatland firefighting applications made from sodium laurate and potassium palmitate of palm oil provided added value with positive criteria, i.e. the ratio of value-added criteria was 80.87% (> 0). In addition to that, the business also provided high-profit categories because the added value category ratio was 80.87% (> 40%). From the analysis of remuneration, it was produced that the foaming agent production business was a capital-intensive since the contribution of the labour income value was 0.89%, other expenses contributed 3.73% and the profit from the entrepreneur as the owner capital of 95.37% which was the largest contribution in providing profit margins. However, the development of a foaming agent production business based on palm oil fatty acids will add new jobs and create new economic impacts in the area of the business locations as well as to increase the amount of palm oil derivative products. Abstract

The objective of this study was to design an agent model for forecasting demand for rubber-based automotive parts using the Agent Based Modelling and Double Exponential Smoothing (ABMDES) approach. Model design in rubber-based automotive spare parts forecasting using the integration of Agent Based Modelling (ABM) approach and Double Exponential Smoothing (DES) technique was done using agent design approach based on class diagram and definition function for each agent in mathematics models including DES-based forecasting. The ABM design has a structure consisting of an agent ID, an attribute to be calculated by the computer and function / process consisting of a function that has values and voids (unstructured). Combining ABM and DES can guide us to see the forecast accuracy, monitoring the estimation of stock shortage and the excess of stock due to errors in DES forecast. Therefore, the Agent Based Modelling-Double Exponential Smoothing (ABMDES) approach is suitable for modelling the demand of rubber-based automotive parts in business simulation. Abstract

The university canteen serves to fulfill the food of the academic community in universities. Even though the price is relatively low, the halalness of the menu must be guaranteed. University canteens need to implement a halal assurance system (HAS). Creative Land (CL) canteen has 24 tenants, most of them are in Universitas Brawijaya (UB), so the identification of halal control points (HCP) becomes complex. The identification of HCP materials can be made easier using the hierarchical clustering method. The research objective describes the various menus and ingredients to determine the ingredient clusters. Materials are grouped into two groupings, namely critical materials and non-critical materials. Materials do not meet the criteria for being replaced by halal materials. The results showed that in this canteen, there were 262 menus and 722 ingredients. Material identification is 28.95% halal-certified materials, and 71.05% non-halal certified materials, 67.45%, including non-critical materials and 3.55% critical materials. Critical materials can be replaced by halal-certified materials or a halal production process (HPP) statement from the producer, which needs further inspection by Halal Inspection Agency (HIA). The hierarchical clustering method can help the complex grouping of canteen menu ingredients to support the halal certification process.

Abstract

Aggregate planning is one of the most important activities of operations management for a competitive supply chain. Aggregate planning balances supply and demand during the planning time horizon. Aggregate planning in a food industry with perishable goods characteristics is a common problem. Mostly, studies on aggregate planning are only concerned with single product and single-phase production processes. This paper proposes a two-stage aggregate planning model that can be applied in the food industry with perishable goods characteristics. The two stages of the production process consist of processing raw materials into intermediate products and processing intermediate products into final products by implementing postponement or intermediate product storage. Processing of raw materials into intermediate materials is expected to solve the problem of material deterioration rate. The aggregate planning model uses a mathematical model approach and is solved by using Goal Programming. Based on the results of model verification using hypothetical data, the aggregate planning model can be applied to the food industry which implements a two-stage production system. Abstract

The growth of the milk industry in Indonesia is increasing every year. This is due to population growth, Indonesian income increasing, and their awareness of consuming milk benefit. Milk production in Indonesia comes from small and medium-term farmers, requiring Koperasi to improve the quality of dairy products in Indonesia. Koperasi Mitra Jaya Mandiri (MJM) consists of dozens of small local farm which all activities are still done manually. Activities of Koperasi MJM, farmers and milk transportation have an impact on the environment. The objective of this research is identify inputs, outputs and environmental impacts in the production of 1 kg of fresh milk (case study of Koperasi MJM). The methods used are life cycle assessment (LCA) with three impact categories: global warming (GWP), eutrophication potential (EP) and acidification potential (AP). The boundary of LCA study is "cradle to gate", which include: feed production, dairy farming activities, transportation of milk to Koperasi, cooling of milk in Koperasi and transportation of milk to factory. Based on LCA results, the environmental impact of GWP, EP and AP 1 kg of Koperasi MJM fresh milk equals 3.45 kg CO2 eq, 0.018 kg PO43- and 0.0208 kg SO2 eq. The stage of dairy farming activities has the highest environmental impact in these three categories. Environmental impact reduction can be done by processing feces of cow, or choosing feed additive that more environmentally friendly. Key words: Life Cycle Assessment, fresh milk, cradle to gate, environmental impact, diary farm

Abstract

Cassava is a promising bioethanol feedstock as all parts of cassava plant including its tuber, stem, leaves, along with processing waste such as peel and bagasse can be used in bioethanol production. However, bioethanol potential from the whole parts of cassava plant is not yet summarized. This research reviewed and calculated the average bioethanol yield from each part of the cassava plant, and calculated bioethanol potential from the whole parts of cassava plant, especially in Indonesia. Fresh cassava tuber, fresh stem, fresh leaves, fresh peel, and dry bagasse are found to have average bioethanol yield of 180 L/ton, 155 L/ton, 75 L/ton, 160 L/ton, and 390 L/ton, respectively. If the whole cassava plant along with its processing waste is utilized for bioethanol production, cassava plants that produce a ton of fresh cassava tuber can yield 400 L bioethanol. With a scenario of total area harvested 700,000 ha and cassava productivity of 22.5 tonnes/ha/year, bioethanol potential from whole cassava plant and its processing waste in Indonesia is 6.3 billion L/year. However, using all the cassava plant for bioethanol production is impractical, considering other utilization of cassava. The bioethanol potential from whole parts of cassava plant after considering other use of plant becomes 2.9 billion L/year. Even when the cassava tuber is used for other utilization, bioethanol from unused cassava stem, leaves, peel, and bagasse is still significant and worth considering. Abstract

Biodiesel is a mono-alkyl ester derived from fatty acids that produced from vegetable oil or animal fat. It is known to be environmentally friendly, does not pollute the air, easily biodegradable, and can be renewed. Therefore, biodiesel has great prospects to be developed in overcoming the limited oil production. Esterification of fatty acids contained in vegetable oil is one way to produce biodiesel. Then, transesterification process separates glycerin from vegetable oil. Based on SNI 7182: 2015, the minimum yield standard for biodiesel is 96.5%. That high yield standard is a challenge in designing the biodiesel production process. In addition, the yield optimization process generally inflicts higher costs and energy. Therefore we need a biodiesel production process design for optimization. Optimization process must consider the composition of the material, the type of reaction, the type of reactor, and the material stream in order to produce the higher yield of biodiesel. This paper aims to optimize biodiesel production through process simulation. The expected biodiesel product is methyl oleate (C19H36O2) with triolein (C57H104O6) as feed. Simulations were carried out using the HYSYS software for three different scenarios. The simulation results are expected to provide an overview of the design of the biodiesel production process that can meet the yield standard and energy efficiency. Based on the three simulated scenarios, the 3rd scenario was chosen as the best biodiesel production process with a yield of 96.5%. In addition, the heat exchanger is used to help reduce the energy requirement from outside the system. [Keywords: biodiesel, production optimization, vegetable oil, hysys
