Abstract

The use of information technology has resulted in numerous life changes. Starting with manual work to ensure that knowledge of innovation grows, creating automated or digital work makes it easier for people to carry out their daily operational activities. A website is an information medium to introduce or promote a company or organization. Develop a profile website to aid in information dissemination and tools for village leaders that can be accessed more quickly and practically, resulting in an innovative, effective, and efficient teaching and learning process. Nowadays, technology allows all manual labour to be converted into a practical digital mode. This community service project aims to help the Tanah Lapang Village socialize and the village head with responsibilities. The executors were a group of lecturers and students from Andalas University's Faculty of Information Technology. The stages of creating a website began with identifying the village's problems. Tanah Lapang Village information is now available on the website, including its profiles, history, organizational structure, population data, facilities, and tourism activities in the village.

Abstract

The activity aimed to assist Village-Owned Enterprises in Nagari Simpuruik, Sungai Tarab District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. It has been developing business units based on village potential as it is known that today Nagari Simpuruik is famous for its "ketupat", i.e. rice cake boiled in a rhombus-shaped packet of plaited young coconut leaves. It is made of coconut leaves and produces coconut sticks as waste. Coconut sticks can be used and processed into value-added products. Seeing this potential, a community service team from the Faculty of Economics and Business of Andalas University formed a business unit by involving the Nagari Simpuruik community under the auspices of a Nagari-Owned Enterprise to produce products made from the coconut sticks known as "Sanggan". These activities consisted of surveys, Focus Group Discussions, and training. This activity certainly involves the people of Nagari Simpuruik, and it is hoped that this activity will encourage the improvement of the community's economy. The result of this activity is the form of increasing the community's ability to process waste into value-added products.

Abstract

Indonesia is recently facing the fertilizer issue as the shortage supply of subsidized fertilizers is aligned with the increasing price of non-subsidized ones. So, it eventually resulted in the unstable price of agricultural commodities. The issue has been becoming an obstacle for farmers practising agricultural cultivation, particularly those in Batang Tajongkek Village, Pariaman, West Sumatra Province. It needs to develop its potential for natural resources to make organic fertilizer from cow manure. Furthermore, the solution supports the government program on establishing integrated agriculture. Two activities were conducted to empower the area's potentials, which were counselling and composting demos, respectively. The aim was to ensure knowledge transfer to the farmers regarding the technology and critical method of cow manure composting. During the counselling, the farmers were facilitated to discuss the related issue of sustainable integrated agriculture, organic farming, and the making process of compost. Meanwhile, the process of composting from cow manure was also shown during the demo. Furthermore, the farmer was facilitated to analyze the content of produced compost, which was mainly focused on the content of nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), and potassium (K). The activities have empowered the people in the area to self-produce cow manure compost as an organic fertilizer. The analysis of the produced compost showed that the compost has yet to fulfil the national standard of solid fertilizer (SNI 7763:2018) regarding the content of macronutrients (N + P2O5 + K2O). However, the pH of produced compost has met the national standard. The pH was 7.27, which ranges from 4-9. For the compost to be utilized by the community, it is necessary to mix other materials in its manufacture so that the resulting compost complies with SNI.

Abstract

Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an approach to changing hygiene and sanitation behaviour through community empowerment with a triggering method that aims to change the behaviour of people who defecate anywhere. Environmental-based diseases, primarily related to water-borne diseases, still dominate the prevalence of diseases in Indonesia. Changing hygiene and sanitation behaviour through community empowerment is needed to improve the health status of the community as high as possible. Community service activities were conducted through interviews, triggering activities and community observations. The flow of triggering activities were introductions, conveying intentions and objectives, atmosphere building, identification of local languages, simple mapping, counting faeces, transect walk, water contamination paths, discussions, social contracts, and free defecation commitment. Participants who previously did not have latrine facilities became aware of and committed to constructing latrines independently. The village where this activity has been carried out will soon become an open defecation-free village. Become a promotor for monitoring and triggering activities for people to stop open defecation.

Abstract

Indonesians, particularly those residing in rural areas with abundant plant diversity, have long relied on traditional medicine that utilizes plants. Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack.) is one example of a widely-used traditional medicine known for its immunity-boosting properties. However, many people need more awareness of the potential benefits and risks of plants like Sungkai, so it is necessary to provide education and training to promote proper usage and ensure public safety. This community service activity aimed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to process plants accurately, utilize them appropriately based on the severity of the illness, and avoid any adverse side effects or toxicity. The counselling method used in this initiative involves lectures, which is effective for individuals with varying education levels, especially the general public. This program has yielded promising results, with the community displaying strong enthusiasm for the initiative. Ultimately, education and counselling services can significantly improve public understanding and use of traditional medicine.

Abstract

The Bukit Nobita Tourism Area is being developed by Kelurahan Kampung Jua Nan XX, Kota Padang, in collaboration with FMIPA UNAND, one of which is the Department of Biology. Nowadays, a waste management program is being designed. This program is similar to the existing Bank Sampah mission in Bukit Nobita, but Bank Sampah only manages inorganic waste, leaving organic waste problems unresolved. As a result, the team from the Department of Biology of FMIPA UNAND proposed processing organic waste with black soldier fly maggots (Hermetia illucens). The cultivation training of maggots was carried out in this program in collaboration with Pokdarwis, the PKK group, and MBKM students. The activity occurred at the Kantor Lurah Kampung Jua Nan XX and the Minagot Sumbar Maggot BSF Research and Cultivation House, Kota Padang. The program was held from November to December 2022. The cultivation of Black Soldier Fly maggots by the community in the Bukit Nobita tourism area is expected to convert organic waste into organic fertilizers, the maggots can be processed into animal and fish feed, and it can also become an educational attraction that provides an exciting experience for visitors to the Bukit Nobita Tourism Area.

Abstract

The use of feed in fish farming is often inefficient because fish only partially consume the feed spread in ponds, so it becomes waste for the aquatic environment and, even worse, will trigger new diseases. The Department of Chemistry's of Universitas Andalas team was trying to overcome this problem by increasing the efficiency of fish feed. For the feed to work optimally and produce good quality fish weight, it is necessary to modify the nutrition of the fish feed, one of which is by adding probiotics through a fermentation process. The method used in this activity includes training, mentoring, and demonstration plots in feed fermentation and counselling regarding the right time to feed. This activity targets fish farmers in the Koto Luar area, Pauh District, Padang, with a fish culturing group, "Family Sepakat", as the partner. Feed fermentation was carried out with probiotic starters such as Bacillus sp., saccharomyces cerevisiae, L. fermentum, L. plantarum, and W. paramesenteroides. This activity improved catfish growth, and the death rate was lower than in catfish farming without feed fermentation treatment.

Abstract

People living with schizophrenia in West Sumatra are currently experiencing an increase. In 2018 the prevalence of schizophrenia reached 9 per 1000 households. This prevalence is above the national average. The problem that often occurs in people with schizophrenia (ODS) is relapse. High relapse also occurs in ODS in Padang. It was because of non-compliance with treatment and a lack of support from the family. Inadequate support is the impact of the low resilience of the ODS family. Therefore, the purpose of this community service is to increase the ability of nurses to empower families to increase family resilience so that ODS relapse is low. The method used in this community service is the provision of training. The training was given to 14 nurses holding mental programs at the Padang City Health Centers. The training was carried out for three days at the Faculty of Nursing Unand Padang. Community service resulted in nurses' knowledge in empowering ODS families before training was an average of 50.75, and nurses' knowledge after training was an average of 62.78, increasing by 12.03 points. It hopes that nurses could empower ODS families through home visits so that every ODS family member has the knowledge and ability to care for ODS so that family resilience increases and relapse can prevent.
