Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death from infections worldwide. Pulmonary TB is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which can cause inflammation affecting the lung parenchyma. The entry of the bacteria triggers an inflammatory response that damages the alveolar-capillary membrane, leading to impaired lung expansion due to fluid accumulation, which in turn affects respiratory system function. To address respiratory function issues in pulmonary TB, one solution is the application of spiritual emotional breathing (SEB). This study aims to determine the effect of the SEB technique on optimizing respiratory function in pulmonary TB patients. The design used is a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test with control group design. The sample consisted of 40 respondents, divided into 2 groups: control and intervention, each with 20 respondents, selected using convenience sampling. The intervention provided was SEB according to the SOP, and the measurement of RR and SpO2 was conducted using observation and oximetry. Data analysis was performed using t-tests and Wilcoxon tests. The results showed p = 0.251 in the treatment group and p = 0.353 in the control group, indicating that this intervention did not have a significant effect on RR. However, the SpO2 results showed p = 0.001 in the treatment group, indicating a significant effect of SEB on SpO2, whereas p = 0.518 in the control group. SEB improves respiration, such as lung capacity and gas exchange.

Abstract

In Indonesia and the world, it is predicted that the number of diabetes mellitus sufferers will increase every year. Patients with diabetes mellitus not only have physical problems but also psychological problems, this is because the complications that arise, both acute and chronic, cause changes in the sufferer's quality of life. Various approaches have been taken to overcome this problem, one of which is by providing education and support groups. This research uses a pre-experimental design with a pre-post-test one-group design approach. This research was conducted in 4 meetings over 1 month with a sample size of 27 people suffering from type II diabetes mellitus. Sample selection used a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) questionnaire and the education and support group module. The analysis used uses an alternative test, namely the Wilcoxon test. The research results showed that the p-value was 0.000 <0.05, so H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. The conclusion from the results of this research is that there is an influence of education and support groups on the quality of life of type II diabetes mellitus patients.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the antioxidant classes in mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L.), which is known to be rich in natural antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent or slow down cell damage caused by free radicals, which can form through metabolism or environmental exposure. The identification and utilization of natural sources of antioxidants are crucial for protecting cells from damage and supporting health. The research process began with the drying and grinding of mangosteen rind into a fine powder, which was then extracted using ethanol to obtain an antioxidant-rich extract. Subsequently, several phytochemical tests were conducted to identify antioxidant classes such as flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and tannins in the extract. The antioxidant activity assay was performed using the DPPH method, an in vitro method to measure antioxidant activity based on the color change of the DPPH solution that reacts with antioxidant compounds. The extract of mangosteen rind contains alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tannin, and steroid compounds. Additionally, the extract of mangosteen rind has potential as an antioxidant with an IC50 value of 48.9685 µg/mL.

Abstract

Introduction: Early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD) is the process of breastfeeding the baby immediately after birth, where the baby is allowed to find the mother's nipple alone (not offered the nipple). IMD will greatly assist in the continuation of exclusive breastfeeding. The success factor is also strongly influenced by the attitude, knowledge and motivation of the midwife/doctor of the labor helper. The failure factor in the implementation of IMD is influenced by several factors, among others, the birth mother faces many obstacles to perform IMD on the baby who is born at the place of delivery, the lack of support provided by the family, as well as the number of mothers who have not been equipped with sufficient knowledge about the benefits of IMD implementation. Objective: to determine the effect of early breastfeeding initiation on the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: literature review was conducted based on issues, methodology, similarities and research proposals. Results: Of the 10 studies used, 1 of them used analytic methods and 6 others used cross sectional methods and 3 others used case control. Conclusion: IMD affects the success of exclusive breastfeeding.
