The problem of livestock farmers in Tanjung Pasar Village, Muara Pawan District, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan is the high number of calf deaths and the use of palm oil waste in the form of palm oil mud which is abundant in the area which is directly given to livestock, even though the nutritional content in it is quite low when used as a source of feed to meet the needs of life in cattle. So the urgency of this problem is the need to increase the knowledge of livestock farmers regarding how to intensively raise calves in order to reduce high mortality in calves and increase the knowledge of livestock farmers regarding how to process animal feed from palm oil mud. Students were divided into five small groups and analyzed a narrative text titled "Si Kancil yang Selalu Ingat Tuhan" using worksheets prepared by the PKM team. The program was implemented in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Questionnaire results indicated that 92% of students felt the activity helped them better understand the text, and 88% stated they became more accustomed to questioning what they read. The activity was considered engaging and encouraged active participation, effectively fostering students' critical thinking skills. This critical reading strategy using narrative texts can serve as an alternative approach to literacy learning in Islamic senior high schools.

Abstract

Matara Village, located in Merauke Regency, South Papua Province, is a coastal community with abundant marine resources, particularly fish as a primary commodity. However, limited processing capacity results in fish being sold whole at low prices or even unsold leading to economic losses and declining household incomes. The inability to process fish into nutritious, high-value products remains a key challenge. To address this issue, a team of lecturers from Musamus University conducted a community empowerment program focusing on training local women ("mama-mama") to produce fish nuggets. The program included field observations, counseling sessions, technical demonstrations, direct mentoring, and a satisfaction survey. As a result, nutritious and marketable fish nugget samples were successfully produced. This initiative aims to foster entrepreneurship and improve local economic resilience. The community responded positively and expressed strong interest in sustained support from relevant institutions for ongoing development.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women, ranking second after breast cancer, making it very important to anticipate factors that may influence the occurrence of this condition as early as possible. Early detection of cervical cancer is clearly dependent on women's knowledge of how to prevent it as early as possible so that the issue can be anticipated. The objective of this activity is to enhance the knowledge of women of childbearing age regarding prevention efforts and early detection of cervical cancer at UPT Puskesmas Sebawi. The method used for this community service involved conducting a pre-test, counseling, and a post-test. The evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge among women of childbearing age by 30.1%, and the Wilcoxon test analysis yielded a significance level of 0.000 (sign < 0.05).

Abstract

On February 14, 2025, a massive fire struck the Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) in Puuwatu, Kendari City, destroying 52 houses owned by sanitation workers and causing material losses estimated at IDR 1.1 billion. This incident had a significant social and economic impact, particularly on low-income communities who rely on the informal waste management sector. In response to this emergency, lecturers and students from STIKES Pelita Ibu Kendari carried out a community service initiative. The main objectives were to provide targeted basic necessities and offer psychosocial support to affected victims. The activities were conducted through participatory and collaborative approaches, including coordination, needs assessment, fundraising, and direct distribution of aid such as food staples, decent clothing, and other essential supplies. Additionally, the team organized emotional support activities for children and the elderly. The presence of the service team proved effective in strengthening psychosocial resilience and enhancing solidarity among residents. This initiative is expected to serve as a model for community-based emergency response that can be replicated in other regions.

Abstract

The increasing number of elderly people in Indonesia brings major challenges in the field of public health, especially related to the prevalence of degenerative diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, and gout. The elderly group is often unaware of the importance of early detection and prevention of these diseases. The purpose of this activity is to increase awareness, knowledge, and concern for the health of their elderly, as well as a form of active role of universities in community service. This activity was carried out using the counseling and health examination method involving lecturers and students from STIKes Bhakti Husada Cikarang. The examination included blood pressure, random blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and uric acid, as well as education about healthy lifestyles provided in the form of presentations and leaflets. This activity was carried out on February 25, 2025. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of degenerative diseases and their preventive measures, as indicated by an increase in pre-test and post-test scores by 35%, and an increase in the participation of the elderly in routine health checks by 45%. Health cadres were also formed to assist in the implementation of sustainable activities at the RT/RW level. Suggestions given included the importance of implementing regular counseling, increasing cross-sector cooperation such as health centers and RT/RW, and strengthening cadres as the spearhead of public health promotion. Similar activities are highly recommended to include them in order to realize a healthy, independent, and prosperous elderly society.
