Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between heat detector reading results and the feature of vaginal swab preparations as a parameter for determining estrus in Peranakan Etawa goats. Five healthy non-pregnant goats weighing 20-30 kg, were synchronized using PGF2α (7.5 mg Dinoprost, Enzaprost) intramuscularly twice with 11 days interval. Vaginal cytology examination began the day after the second PGF2α injection. The heat detector (Draminski®, Dramiński SA, Poland) is an estrus detecting device based on the amount of electric current flowing through the vaginal mucus. Spearman correlation analysis showed a relationship (p <0.05) between heat detector reading and estrus detection based on vaginal cytology. The heat detector readings were very significantly correlated positively (p <0.01) with the number of epithelial cells (coefficient correlation, r= 0.564), but negatively correlated with the number of cornified cells (r = –0.854), and also significantly correlated positively (p <0.05) to the number of leukocytes (r = 0.487). The estrus stages were significantly correlated positively (p <0.05) only to the number of leukocytes (r = 0.918). Likewise, the number of epithelial cells was highly correlated negatively (p <0.01) only to cornified cells (r = –0,643), and the number of cornified cells was significantly correlated negatively (p <0.05) only to the number of leukocytes (r = –0.472). It could be concluded that the features of the proestrus, estrus and metestrus stages based on the goat vaginal cytology was correlated with the reading results of the heat detector.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the morphometric differences in the head of male and female Turi ducks. Ten male and ten female day-old ducks (DOD) were randomly selected by a lottery system from the population, raised, and had their head morphology measured using a digital caliper with an accuracy of 0.01 mm on the first day, and at the age of 2, 4, 6, and 8weeks. The result showed that male Turi duck had wider (p <0.05) head at the ages of 1 day, 2 and 6 weeks, head length and head height at the ages of 1 day, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks, rostrum width at the ages of 1 day, 4, 6, and 8 weeks, and rostrum length at the age of 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks. There were no significant differences (p >0.05) in the head width at the ages of 4 and 8 weeks, rostrum width at 2 weeks, and rostrum length at 1day old male and female Turi ducks. Morphometric growth pattern showed that older Turi ducks (at a range of 1 day to 8 weeks) had larger (p <0.05) head morphometry. However, the cephalic index in male and female Turi ducks was not significantly different (p > 0.05) at all ages. It could be concluded that in general head morphometry was useful for determining male and female Turi ducks at the ages of 1 day, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks

Abstract

Probiotics are all forms of microbial cell preparations or components of microbial cells that have a beneficial effect on the health and life of the host. Some feed additives such as the Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) hormone have been banned. Therefore, nowadays, probiotics are often used as additives to replace antibiotics. The probiotics that are widely used are lactic acid bacteria because they can increase the efficiency of digestion and absorption of nutrients. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving probiotics a combination of Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis with doses of 2 ml, 4 ml, and 6 ml/head/day orally on weight gain, feed consumption, and decreased feed conversion of laying hens. This study was conducted for 2 weeks using pre layer chickens aged 21 weeks to 23 weeks old as many as 24 chickens, randomized into 4 treatments with 6 replications with P0 as control, P1 = 2 ml, P2 = 4 ml, and P3 = 6 ml. The probiotic used is a combination of probiotics Bacillus coagulans and Bacillus subtilis with a concentration of 1x107 CFU/ml in liquid.

Abstract

Quail farming is quite developed, from year to year the population increases. The search for alternative feed as a substitute for feed sources is an effort by breeders to minimize feed costs. One alternative to replace feed ingredients can be fishery industry waste. Fishery waste that can be used as feed is milkfish waste (Chanos chanos). The purpose of this research was to determined the substitution of milkfish waste flour (Chanos chanos) at commercial feed to egg white index, egg yolk index and haugh unit. There are 20 quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) at one day of age of four treatments and five replications. Each treatment consisted by five females. The treatment consisted of P0 with commercial feed 100%, P1 with commercial feed 98% + milkfish waste flour 2%, P2 with commercial feed 96% + milkfish waste flour 4% and P3 with commercial feed 94% + milkfish waste flour 6%. Based on results of the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) there was not significantly different (p>0,05) on egg white index, egg yolk index and haugh unit. It can be concluded the substitution of commercial feed with milkfish waste flour (Chanos chanos) can maintain egg white index egg yolk index and haugh unit.

Abstract

Eggs are widely consumed by Indonesian people. High market demand will cause breeders to increase egg productivity and quality. Moringa oleifera leaves addition to the feed could increase egg production. Moringa leaf flour has high crude fiber, so it needs to be fermented. Fermentation aims to reduce crude fiber and increase crude protein. This study aims to determine the effect of using fermented Moringa leaf flour on the egg yolk index of the Haugh Unit and the color of the Mojosari's duck egg yolk with different shelf life. 60 ducks divided into four treatment groups, namely P0 without fermented Moringa leaf flour addition, P1 with 0.5% Moringa leaf flour fermentation, P2 with 1% Moringa leaf flour fermentation, and P3 with 1.5%. Moringa leaf flour fermentation. The results showed that the addition of 1.5% fermented Moringa leaf flour (P3) gave the highest average value for the egg yolk index, Haugh Unit, and egg yolk color with different storage period. Providing fermented Moringa oleifera leaf flour at 1.5% as a feed additive had the highest influence on increasing the egg yolk index, haugh unit value, and egg yolk color of mojosari ducks with different storage period.
