Abstract

Depression is one of the most common mental health problems among adolescents and can affect social, academic, and quality of life aspects. The high use of digital technology among adolescents has encouraged the development of web-based interventions as an alternative for mental health promotion. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the YOWES (Youth Centered Web-based for Depression) intervention on reducing depressive symptoms among adolescents in Palangka Raya City. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design without a control group. The sample consisted of 37 adolescents with severe depressive symptoms selected using purposive sampling. Depression was measured using the Children Depression Inventory (CDI) instrument. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that most respondents were female (97.3%), aged 14–17 years (83.8%), and high school students (73.0%). There was a decrease in the mean depression score from 28.11 to 18.73 with a difference of 9.38 and a p-value of 0.000 (

Abstract

Prolonged labor during the active phase of the first stage can increase the risk of complications for both the mother and the baby. One of the non-pharmacological complementary treatments considered to accelerate the labor process and make childbirth more enjoyable for mothers, the Birthing ball still requires systematic evidence to ensure that it can be applied in midwifery practice. The objective of this research is to systematically analyze the role of the Birthing ball on the progress of labor during the active phase of the first stage and the positive experience of mothers in labor (satisfaction). The research design follows the PRISMA protocol thru a comprehensive review. For articles published from 2015 to 2025, a literature review was conducted using the Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed databases. Inclusion criteria included experimental studies discussing the use of a Birthing ball intervention for mothers in the active first stage of labor, with outcomes measuring labor duration and maternal satisfaction. Ten selected articles were qualitatively synthesized. The synthesis results show that the use of a Birthing ball significantly accelerates the duration of the first stage of active labor (on average 1.5–2 hours faster) thru the optimization of fetal position and gravitational force. In addition, this intervention consistently improves maternal satisfaction scores and reduces the intensity of functional pain, providing a greater sense of control during the labor process. The Birthing ball is effective in optimizing the clinical progress of labor and the psychological well-being of the mother. Midwives are advised to integrate this method as a complementary care standard to achieve a positive childbirth experience.

Abstract

Weight faltering is a highly significant risk factor for malnutrition. The lower the Z-score, the higher the risk of malnutrition. One of the causes of stunted growth and development is maternal factors, specifically poor nutrition during the preconception period and pregnancy. This study aims to analyze the relationship between pre-pregnancy nutritional status and the incidence of weight faltering in infants aged 6-24 months. Research is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. In this research used purposive sampling techniques on 50 infants aged 6-24 months who met the inclusion criteria in Selorejo village, Malang regency. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The Chi-Square correlation test analysis between pre-pregnancy nutritional status and the incidence of weight faltering in infants aged 6-24 months showed a significant relationship with a p-value of 0.002. There is a relationship between pre-pregnancy nutritional status and the incidence of weight faltering in infants aged 6-24 months. It is hoped that good preconception planning will be conducted before deciding to become pregnant again.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is an important factor in improving infant nutritional status and reducing morbidity and mortality rates. One of the determinants of successful exclusive breastfeeding is family support. This study aimed to determine the relationship between family support and the practice of exclusive breastfeeding and infant nutritional status. This research used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 60 mothers with infants aged 0–6 months. Data were collected using questionnaires and measurements of infant nutritional status based on weight-for-age indicators. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good family support (66.7%), practiced exclusive breastfeeding (61.7%), and had infants with normal nutritional status (73.3%). There was a significant relationship between family support and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.01), as well as between exclusive breastfeeding and infant nutritional status (p = 0.02). In conclusion, family support plays an important role in the success of exclusive breastfeeding and contributes to improving infant nutritional status.

Abstract

Childbirth bleeding remains one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Identifying factors associated with the amount of blood loss during childbirth is essential for developing more effective prevention strategies. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the amount of childbirth bleeding among women delivering at Sitti Khadijah Hospital, Gorontalo. A cross-sectional design was employed using secondary data obtained from medical records. A total of 195 mothers who delivered vaginally were selected through simple random sampling. The results showed that maternal age and perineal rupture were significantly associated with the amount of childbirth bleeding in the bivariate analysis. However, after multivariable adjustment, only perineal rupture remained significantly associated with the amount of childbirth bleeding (β = 22.28; p = 0.018). Mothers who experienced second-degree perineal rupture tended to have a higher amount of blood loss compared with those with an intact perineum. In conclusion, perineal condition during childbirth is an important factor associated with increased blood loss during delivery. Efforts to prevent and appropriately manage perineal rupture should be strengthened in midwifery care to improve maternal safety.

Abstract

Improving nutrition-related knowledge and attitudes among women of reproductive age regarding the First 1,000 Days of Life (1,000 Days) is essential as an early strategy for preventing stunting. The effectiveness of nutrition education is influenced by the educational media used. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze and compare the effectiveness of flipcharts and podcasts as media for nutrition education on the First 1,000 Days of Life in improving nutrition knowledge and attitudes among women of reproductive age in rural areas. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest–posttest control group design and was conducted in Tambakbaya Village, Lebak Regency, Banten, Indonesia. A total of 106 women aged 15–35 years participated and were assigned to either the flipchart group or the podcast group. Nutrition education was delivered in three sessions. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. Prior to the intervention, most subjects had poor nutrition knowledge. Following the intervention, the majority demonstrated fair to good levels of nutrition knowledge. Positive attitudes toward nutrition predominated both before and after the intervention. Nutrition education on the First 1,000 Days of Life delivered through both flipcharts and podcasts significantly improved nutrition knowledge and attitudes. However, flipchart-based education resulted in greater improvement in nutrition knowledge than podcast-based education. These findings highlight the importance of selecting educational media that align with the characteristics of the target population.

Abstract

Stunting remains one of the major nutritional problems among toddlers and is a condition of growth failure caused by chronic malnutrition over a long period, resulting in children having shorter height than the standard for their age. Maternal parenting patterns, especially in feeding practices, are considered one of the important factors influencing the incidence of stunting. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal parenting patterns in feeding and the incidence of stunting among toddlers. This research used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all mothers of toddlers and toddlers in the working area of Bataraguru Health Center until July 2024, totaling 605 respondents. A sample of 60 respondents was selected using convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and toddler height measurements, then analyzed using the Rank-Spearman test with a significance level of ρ < 0.05. The results showed that most respondents applied democratic parenting patterns in feeding, with 43 respondents (71.7%). Around 30 toddlers (50%) had normal height status. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between maternal parenting patterns in feeding and the incidence of stunting among toddlers (ρ = 0.691). It can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between maternal feeding parenting patterns and stunting incidence, although appropriate parenting tends to support better toddler growth outcomes.
