Abstract

Skincare, which is a type of cosmetics, is an essential component in the process of maintaining and caring for the skin. It is known that the skin quickly absorbs the tiny molecular structure of serum. Stingless bees, widespread in East Kalimantan and Indonesia, benefit the skin's health by producing honey and propolis. This research aims to demonstrate that a face serum derived from honey and propolis of stingless bees from East Kalimantan is safe for use on the skin using dermatological standards. Here we will see whether there are allergic reactions and irritation from using facial serum. Using the Repeated Open Application Test (ROPT) technique, 20 volunteers were subjected to applying a face serum containing honey and stingless bee propolis. The serum was given to the upper arm twice daily for seven days. As part of the test, allergic reactions were evaluated using the system developed by the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ICDRG), and irritating reactions were evaluated using the Primary Irritation Index (PII). The results showed that on the first day, four of the volunteers reported moderate irritation reactions. Consequently, they scored 0.7, indicating they suffered minor irritation. On the other hand, the reactions of the remaining 16 volunteers were typical. Twenty participants had normal skin from the second treatment until the seventh day. The overall findings show that the facial serum based on honey and kelulut propolis from stingless bees from East Kalimantan showed a mild irritation reaction at the beginning of use and was safe to use in subsequent uses.

Abstract

As COVID-19 forced schools to shift to distance learning, the modular approach, in particular, became the most viable option for the continuity of learning. However, these sudden changes also brought unique experiences to novice teachers. This study explored the lived experiences of novice secondary school English teachers (NSSET) in Tagum City in implementing modular distance learning (MDL) in the context of the pandemic. Phenomenological inquiry based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory was used to explain the experiences of the eight (8) participants. Using validated researcher-made interview questions, virtual in-depth interviews were conducted. Through Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six-step framework, themes that emerged, categorized into five echelons, are as follows: poor cooperation of parents and students, and productive collaboration with colleagues and immediate heads; overwhelming pressure from external sources, and taking direction from others’ influence; perpetual communication breakdown, and confronting challenges in the delivery of modular learning; meeting society’s expectations; abrupt adjustment to the new normal. These shape the experiences of the NSSET in conducting MDL in the new normal. However, the poor cooperation of parents and students poses the most significant experience for the NSSET. Notwithstanding, novice teachers navigated successfully through these experiences brought about by implementing MDL amid the pandemic.

Abstract

This study explores the optimization of job performance by examining the interplay of work training, workplace relationships, and workload within the dynamic setting of a call center. The overarching goal is to gain a holistic understanding of how these three elements collectively contribute to fostering a positive impact on workforce productivity. Utilizing a descriptive survey method, the research employed a questionnaire to systematically collect data on the perceived positive effects associated with work training, workplace relationships, and workload on job performance. Following data collection, thorough analysis and interpretation were conducted to derive meaningful insights. To assess the significance of differences between the factors influencing job performance, a one-way ANOVA was applied. The study aimed to shed light on several key aspects, including the dynamics of the work environment concerning the identified factors affecting job performance, the levels of agreement among respondents regarding these factors, significant differences in responses, and implications for improvements. In conclusion, the study highlights that work training, workplace relationships, and workload positively influence job performance, as evidenced by responses from call center agents. However, it is noteworthy that all three factors were rated one level below the highest possible classification, underscoring the need for targeted interventions. Significant differences in ratings were identified among work training, workplace relationships, and workload. All three factors were considered for intervention, with a particular emphasis on workload, which received the lowest rating. This prioritization sets the groundwork for strategic improvements to elevate overall job performance in the call center environment.

Abstract

Developing learners’ numeracy skills has been a pressing issue in the field of education, as it is one of the battlecries of the agency along with literacy. Studies revealed that addressing these learning gaps varies widely across schools, classrooms, and learners. Moreover, students learn better through the activities that their teachers provide to them. Thus, under the Mathematics Foundation Fluency Program, a numeracy intervention program of Langkaan II National High School, teacher-made learning activity sheets were used as learning materials of the learners under numeracy intervention. The objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of utilizing teacher-made learning activity sheets in improving the numeracy skills of the learners particularly in Langkaan II National High School. The findings of the study will serve as a help in improving the numeracy intervention program of the school. The results revealed that there was a marked improvement in the numeracy skills of the learners as manifested in the improved scores of the learners during the post-test. Moreover, no non-numerates were reported during the end-of-the-school year numeracy assessment. Thus, using the teacher-made learning activity sheets were found to be an effective tool in improving the numeracy skills of the learners including number sense, number operations, measurement, geometry, patterns and algebra, and statistics and probability. It helped the students to cope up certain topic/lessons in basic mathematics that develops their numeracy skills. These materials can contribute to a more comprehensive program to improve the numeracy skills of the learners. Further studies may also be conducted as to other aspects relevant to the implementation of the whole program. Validation or modification of these learning materials may also be conducted for further enhancement.
