Abstract

A periodic and continuous lack of sleep can have a direct impact on the health of the elderly. Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies can be utilized to treat poor sleep quality in this population. Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Foot Massage are relaxation therapies that are often utilized to address poor sleep quality among the elderly. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a combination of progressive muscle relaxation and foot massage on improving sleep quality in the elderly. The research design used was pre-experimental, with a sampling method used purposive sampling and 20 respondents. The instrument used was the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The results showed that before the combined therapy was administered, all respondents experienced poor sleep quality. After the combined therapy was given to the respondents seven times over one week, all respondents experienced good sleep quality. Wilcoxon pre-test and post-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the research hypothesis was acknowledged. Therefore, the combination of progressive muscle relaxation and foot massage had a significant effect on improving sleep quality in the elderly. This therapy is recommended to be carried out routinely and further studied to explore other variables and factors that affect sleep quality in the elderly.

Abstract

Introduction: The incidence of breast cancer in Indonesia in 2020 showed 68,858 new cases, which contributed 16.6% of the total 396,914 new cancer cases overall. The WHO recommends cancer prevention as an essential component of all cancer control plans. Early detection through breast self-examination (BSE) is one of the recommended methods to reduce breast cancer mortality. However, awareness and practice of BSE among Indonesian women remain low. Several determinants of breast self-examination behavior have been identified, including family history, knowledge, attitudes, and family support. The purpose of this study is to analyze the dominant factors related to BSE behavior in female students at SMAN 1 Asembagus. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional method with a sample of 62 respondents drawn using a stratified sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Data analysis used the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: Family history, knowledge, attitude and family support were proven to have a statistical relationship with the self-examination behavior of female students of SMAN 1 Asembagus with p values of 0.002; 0.000; 0.000; 0.044. The results of the multivariate test showed that family support was the dominant factor with an OR of 6.7 times the risk of performing self-examination. Conclusions: Family history, knowledge, attitude, and family support factors have a statistically significant relationship with BSE behavior in female students of SMAN 1 Asembagus. The dominant factor related to BSE behavior in female students of SMAN 1 Asembagus is the family support factor with the largest OR among other factors, namely 6.7. Nurses as health workers have a strategic role in educating and empowering families to provide optimal support, both emotionally, instrumentally, in terms of information, and through assessment. Abstract

Introduction: TURP procedure is recommended to treat symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) indicated for surgery. Irrigation method is the main factor in the success and evaluation of TURP syndrome. There is no ideal irrigation fluid or consensus result of the best irrigation fluid for TURP. Several irrigation materials have been developed related to effectiveness and cost considerations. Demineralized drinking water is an alternative for bladder irrigation of patients with TURP. The purpose of this study was to analyze the use of demineralized drinking water on serum electrolyte levels in patients before and after TURP. Methods: Using the pre-experiment method with a pre-post-test one group design approach, samples were selected using a purposive sampling technique of 15 respondents, analysis using the Wilcoxon signed ranks test. Results: The results of the univariate analysis showed that almost all respondents received an irrigation volume of 20 liters (93.3%), most respondents were irrigated for 60 minutes (73.3%). The sig.(2-tailed) value of serum Sodium 1.00 > 0.05, Potassium 0.655 > 0.05, and Chloride 0.655 > 0.05, showed no significant difference in the average results of serum electrolyte examination between pre and post-test. Conclusions: There is no effect of using demineralized drinking water as a bladder irrigation fluid in TURP procedures on serum electrolyte levels in BPH patients. The results of this study provide a strong basis for considering the use of demineralized drinking water as an option in clinical practice for bladder irrigation in TURP procedures.

Abstract

Introduction: Nutritional problems among children under five in coastal areas remain relatively high, partly due to limited access to animal-based protein sources. On the other hand, the potential of marine resources has not been optimally utilized, including grouper fish scales (Epinephelus sp.), which are rich in protein, calcium, and collagen. The innovation of processing these wastes into complementary feeding (MP-ASI) stock powder holds potential as both a nutritional solution and an environmental management strategy. This study aims to analyze the effect of balanced nutrition education on mothers’ knowledge, perceptions, and intentions regarding the use of grouper fish-scale-based MP-ASI stock powder. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the effect of balanced nutrition education on mothers’ knowledge, perceptions, and intentions regarding the use of grouper fish-scale-based MP-ASI stock powder. Methods: This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test–post-test approach involving 30 mothers with children aged 6–24 months in Mekar Jaya Village, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. A structured questionnaire was used to measure knowledge, perception, and intention, with prior validity and reliability testing (Cronbach’s alpha ≥0.70). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Pearson correlation test. Results: The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in knowledge (p<0.001), perception (p<0.001), and intention (p<0.001) after the educational intervention. Correlation analysis revealed positive associations between knowledge and perception (r=0.52; p=0.004), knowledge and intention (r=0.47; p=0.009), and perception and intention (r=0.61; p<0.001). Conclusions: Balanced nutrition education is effective in enhancing knowledge, fostering positive perceptions, and encouraging mothers’ intention to use grouper fish-scale-based MP-ASI stock powder. This study is relevant as a foundation for developing nutrition education strategies and food innovations based on local potential to support the improvement of child nutrition in coastal areas.

Abstract

Introduction: Prescription screening remains a problem, both at the administrative, pharmaceutical, and clinical levels. Prescription screening is one aspect that can prevent medication errors. Medication errors can occur due to unclear or missing information regarding the route of administration, dosage, frequency of administration, dosage form, patient identity, and prescriber identity. Methods: The research was a descriptive, non-experimental study with retrospective data at Pharmacies X and Y. The number of samples was determined by calculating the number of prescription populations received and taken randomly. 240 prescription sheets were used from Pharmacy X and 94 sheets at Pharmacy Y. The prescription sheets were subjected to administrative and pharmaceutical screening and analyzed. Results: The completeness of prescriptions administratively for Pharmacy X was 60.67% and Pharmacy Y was 69.04%. Administrative screening that was often incomplete was the completeness of prescriptions related to body weight, only 2.08% for Pharmacy X and 0% for Pharmacy Y. The physician's initials or signature also had a completeness of prescriptions of 11.67% for Pharmacy X and 25.53% for Pharmacy Y. Pharmaceutical screening in general was 81.82% for Pharmacy X and 93.44% for Pharmacy Y. Incomplete pharmaceutical screening in both pharmacies was drug strength, namely 50.83% at Pharmacy X and 31.91% at Pharmacy Y. At Pharmacy X, incomplete prescriptions were also found in the writing of dosage forms of 52.03%. Conclusions: The administrative and pharmaceutical completeness of prescriptions from both pharmacies still does not meet the standards of pharmaceutical services in pharmacies.
